INTRODUCTION

Yenepoya Physiotherapy College was established in 2003 under t he Islamic Academy of Education Trust (IAE) and the college is affiliatedajiv to Gandhi R University of Hea lth Sciences. It is a constituent college of Yenepoya University sincear the2009. ye The college offers Under Graduate (BPT), Postgraduate (MPT) and Doctoral programmesD). The annual (Ph intake for th e BPT (Bachelor in Physiotherapy) and MPT (Masters in rsePhysiotherapy) are 60 and 10Cou respecti vely. Postgraduate courses have since begun in 5 branchesces, viz.,Cardio Neuroscien Pulmonary scien ces, Orthopaedics & Sports, Pediatrics and Manual therapy.

The Yenepoya Physiotherapy College is well known for its discipline quality education and clinical research, thus ensuring the quality of teaching, learning and services to the society and the country as a whole. The College is well staffed and furnished. Didactic classes are conducted in 4 spacious lecture halls & small group discussions in 2 seminar halls. There are 2 well equipped laboratories: the electrotherapy laboratory and the therapeutics laboratory. The clinical section of the Physiotherapy College is housed in Yenepoya Medical College Hospital (YMCH) and is well equipped with advanced equipments. The college building houses separate common rooms for boys and girls.

I. ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES

CPE / SEMINARS / WORKSHOPS CONDUCTED 1. 5 days National Workshop on “Advanced Integrated Soft Tissue Techniques for Upper and Lower Quadrant” was conducted on 11th to 15th December 2012 at Indoor Auditorium, academic Block, YMC. Dr. P.Chandramohan, Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, YU, presided over the inaugural function, Prof. Pearlson, MPT (AUS), President; Federation of Indian Manual Therapist Bangalore was the resource person. 30 delegates attended the hand on training workshop.

2. “The International Day of Persons With Disability” was organised by Yenepoya Physiotherapy College on 3rd December 2012. Dr. P. Chandra Mohan Hon'ble Vice Chancellor inaugurated the function and distributed ambulatory aids to the poor patients. Prof. K.P. Jayarajan,Controller of Examination & NSS Coordinator of Yenepoya University was the Chief guest. Students of Yenepoya Physiotherapy College along with NSS Volunteers conducted series of events such as Model Presentation, Skit & Poster competitions. Prof. Dr. Radha Y Aras, HOD, CommunityMedicine, Prof. Dr. Kedilaya, HOD, Biochemistry, Dr. Bhagya B Sharma, Lecturer, Anatomy and Mr. Shaik Abdul Rahim, Vice Principal, YPC were the judging panel for the competitions In these programmes the students exhibited various innovative methods to assist the people with disability and depicted the problems faced by the disabled people in the community through skits to create awareness in our society.

GUEST LECTURE

Prof. Jayashrikanth, Chairman, Elite Academy, (http://elite-academy.in/) Chennai gave guest lecture on “Electromyography” for MPT students on 12th February 2013 from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm.

 WORKSHOP/ CONFERENCE ATTENDED FACULTY Mr. Mohamed Sherif Sirajudeen, Assoc. Prof., has participated as Scientific Committee Member for Neuraxis 2012, a National Neuro physiotherapy Colloquium organized by Fr. Muller College of Physiotherapy on 23rd & 24th of November 2012. Mrs. Nigath Fathima, Ms.Nazia Shaik, Mrs. Veena pais and Mr. Rasheed had attended 5 days National Workshop on “Advanced Integrated Soft Tissue Techniques for Upper and Lower Quadrant” conducted by Yenepoya Physiotherapy College on 11th to 15th December 2012 Prof. S. Mr. Mohamed sheriff Sirajudeen, Assoc.Prof attended, 2nd “Singapore Rehabilitation Conference” held on 27 & 28 February, 2013 in Singapore. Mr. Mohamed Sherif Sirajudeen, Assoc. Prof, attended, Asia Pacific Neuro Rehabilitation Symposium on 1st March 2013 in Singapore. Mrs. Umama Nisar Shah and Mrs.Veena Pais attendede “Metabolic Syndrome” Pathophysiology and Lifestyle Modifications on 27.04.2013 at Yenepoya Medical College, Mangalore. Prof. S. Padmakumar, Mr. Mohamed Sherif, Assoc. Prof, Mrs. Umama Nisar Shah, & Mr. Sajaad AR Ebrahim attended Continued Health Professional Education workshop on “Curriculum Planning and Development” organised by Yenepoya University Teaching Learning Centre, on 28th& 29th May 2013. Mr.Rasheed, Lecturer attended “Research Integrity and Publication Ethics” on 28th May 2013 at Yenepoya University. XIII. SPECIAL DAYS OBSERVED

1. On Occasion of International day of disability, Yenepoya Physiotherapy College in association with rd NSS Unit of Yenepoya Physiotherapy College conducted various Programs on 3 December 2012. Dr. P. Chandra Mohan Hon'ble Vice Chancellor Yenepoya University inaugurated the function and distributed various ambulatory aids such as Wheel Chair, Crutches & Walkers to the poor patients in an around Deralakatte, as a part of service to the people with disability. Prof. KP Jarajan, Controller of examination was the chief guest. Followed by the distribution of walking aids the student of Yenepoya Physiotherapy College along with NSS Volunteers conducted series of events such as Model Presentation, Skit Competition & Poster Presentation. In these programmes the students exhibited various innovative methods to assist the people with disability and depicted the problems faced by the disabled people in the community through various skits to create awareness in our society.

th 2. On Occasion of 150 Birth Anniversary of Pandit. Motilal Nehru, Yenepoya Physiotherapy College conducted an elocution competition for students on 29th December 2012. Best three competitors (Ms.Shifali 2nd Year BPT, Ms. Kamarunnisa 4th Year BPT, Ms. Chaitra Ist Year BPT) were awarded and 5 consolation prizes were given. Followed by the event, presentation on Motilal Nehru's freedom struggle was presented by the NSS Volunteers.

XIV. EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Yenepoya Physiotherapy College student have represented Yenepoya University Football, Basket ball, Volley Ball and Cricket teams in various matches. They have also represented Yenepoya Physiotherapy College team in Cricket, Volley ball, Futsal, Athletics and Indoor games like Chess, Carrom in inter collegiate matches, and they have won most of the matches played. There were also few individual awards won by the players, and details are given below

1. Following Yenepoya Physiotherapy College students were the part of university football team participated in Dakshina Football tournament at Nehru Maidan from 20th to 25th May 2013. st . Team won the 1 place. FACULTY ACHIEVEMENTS:

Dr. Shaik Abdul Rahim (Reg.No.042/2009M), Associate Prof & Vice Principal has been awarded PhD degree entitled “Evaluation of Ergonomic interventions for the Work Related Musculoskeletal Disorders among dental surgeons” in the month of April 2013 under Faculty of Allied Health and Basic Sciences of Yenepoya University. This is the first PhD degree from the Yenepoya University.

Mr. Mohamed Sherif Sirajudeen, Assoc.Prof,  Received International travel grant under Young Scientist Category from Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).  Selected as member of Asia pacific Association of Medical Editors, affiliated to WHO.  Member of World Association of Medical Editors (WAME) and  Member of International Society of Physiotherapy Journal Editors. Executive Editor of International Journal of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences.
