3 2. Introduction

Cricket in Goulburn and Crookwell has a long and illustrious history. Cricket is an integral part of the community fabric and with club participation numbers declining the past few years now is the right time to bring stakeholders in together and plan for the future.

The Cricket in Goulburn project is designed to unite the community during the 2019 off season and to set the forward agenda for the next several seasons for both junior and senior cricket.

The process has been designed to engage local stakeholders in open and evidence based discussions to then develop a strategy to unite and grow the game.

The project is a joint CNSW, GDCA and GDJCA project and is being delivered to achieve our purpose for cricket to unite and inspire communities.

27 Workshop Key Themes

The following were the key themes arising from the Workshop which have formed the basis of the final strategy: 1. Volunteers – each club needs more helpers 2. Stronger affiliation between senior and junior is required • At club level and association level 3. Clubs want more resources – schools, clubs, volunteer roles 4. Schools aren’t connected well enough with clubs at junior level 5. More training is required (e.g. scoring, umpires, coaching) 6. Senior competition structure needs to be reviewed 7. Increase the focus on inter school cricket 8. Increase media presence and promotion of cricket locally 9. Upskill teachers on cricket programs and knowledge 10. Increase communication between association and schools 11. Current school based club structure doesn’t provide opportunity for all children to play 12. Need to build a strong base to maintain U14 and U16 competitions 13. Reward and recognition programs for teachers and volunteers 14. Greater access to nets for training purposes is needed 15. The player pathway from juniors to seniors is not clear which impacts on both bodies

16. Giveaways for school children are needed 28 GOULBURN DISTRICT PLAYER PATHWAY
