Cats are groomed carefully, owners are washing, brushing, trimming their cats until the last moment to make them as beautiful as possible, hoping to win title all breeders and owners want - Best In Show! Cat shows are where friends who all enjoy the pleasure of competition get to together and enjoy the time together whilst showing their cats. Many of us travel thousands of kilometers with our precious cats to spend a weekend in a nice hotel, enjoy evenings with other exhibitors, make new friends, and the competition during the day is part of the pleasure. Part of my circle of friends' tradition is the owner of the winner buys the drinks that evening! The day starts with the vetting in. This means that each cat must go through a vet check to ensure that it is fully vaccinated against Rabies, Panleucopenia and Rhinotracheitis, visibly the cat is in excellent health and no external parasites can be seen. The microchip is also checked to ensure that the cat is actually the one registered and paid for in the show. The exhibitor then checks in, gets his cage number and is allowed into the show hall. Some organizers provide metal cages to be decorated with the exhibitor's choice of curtains, some organizers allow people to bring their own cloth cages. No matter what cages are used, the exhibitors must provide comfort, a litter box and water for the cats during the day.

Es gibt auch viele hundert Gründe, am 24. und 25. Oktober nach St.Gallen zu kommen: An der Weltausstellung 2009 der Fédération Internationale Féline (FIFé) werden über 1'300 Rassekatzen um den Sieg in verschiedenen Kategorien, vor allem aber um den Titel „Weltsieger 2009“, antreten! Wie vor wenigen Wochen bei der Wahl der Miss Schweiz 2009 in Genf gilt auch an der Katzenausstellung: Chancen auf den Sieg hat nur, wer perfekt gestylt und sympathisch präsentiert – „putzt und gstrählet“, wie man bei uns in der Ostschweiz sagt. „Putzt und gstrählet“, das heisst herausgeputzt und gekämmt, werden sich am 24. und 25. Oktober in den Hallen der Olma Messen Rassekatzen aus aller Welt präsentieren – und mit ihnen kommen viele stolze Züchterinnen und Züchter in die Gallusstadt, Richterinnen und Richter und zahllose Stewards, welche für den korrekten Ablauf des Wettbewerbs verantwortlich sind. Ich freue mich, dass nach 1994 die Weltausstellung der Katzen erneut in der Schweiz und sogar in St.Gallen stattfindet und heisse Züchterinnen und Züchter, Richterinnen und Richter, die vielen Helferinnen und Helfer, ohne die eine solche Veranstaltung nicht durchführbar wäre, und ein hoffentlich zahlreiches Publikum herzlich willkommen. Die Olma Messen haben sich bei vielen nationalen Katzenausstellungen regelmässig als ein hervorragend geeigneter Rahmen für solche Grossanlässe präsentiert.

Ühiste probleemide lahendamine on aastatega loonud rahvusvahelise ühtekuuluvuse ja arusaamise õhkkonna, mis on andnud FIFe:le tema maine ja koha maailma kaardil. Rahvusvahelise ühistöö koordinatsiooniorganina toimiv FIFe kuueliikmeline juhtkond on eeskirjade range kontrolli all. Juhtkonnale on FIFe:I kolm komiteed: kohtunike-, näituste,- ja distsipliinikomitee. Külesanne on abistada juhtkonda ja FIFe liikmeid oma erialal. FIFe võrdõiguslik süsteem garanteerib, et igal liikmesmaal on ühtsed õigused, aasta koosolek toimib põhimõttel:üks maa –üks hääl. FIFe aastakoosolek käsitleb liikmesmaadele tehtud ettepanekuid ja tekkinud probleeme. Teiste tõukassi assotsiatsioonidega nagu Ameerika CFA ja Suur-Britannia GCCF – ga on hoitud sõbralikke suhteid. FIFe reeglid toetuvad Sveitsi seadlusandlusele ja nad on sobitatud rahvusvahelise ühistöö nõuetesse. FIFe ametlik kodumaa on Sveits. Kogu selle organisatsiooni finantsoperatsioonid teostab Sociate de Bangue Suisse in Bern. FIFe peasekretär juhatab sekretariaadi tegevust ja osaleb kõikides projektides alates näituse kuupäevade koordineerimisest, kasvanduste registreerimiseni koostöös liikmesmaades peetavate registritega.
