R. China *Corresponding author. E-mail:[email protected] Abstract One new species is described, i.e. Kuzicus (Kuzicus) compressus Han & Shi sp. nov. The type species is preserved in the Museum of Hebei University. Key words: Meconematini, Kuzicus, new species, China Introduction The genus Kuzicus was established by Gorochov (1993), and was divided into two subgenera: Kuzicus and Neokuzicus. The type species is Teratura suzukii Matsumura & Shiraki, 1908. He transferred Xiphidiopsis denticulatus Karny, 1926 and Xiphidiopsis cervicercus Tinkham, 1943 to the subgenus Kuzicus (Kuzicus), and described one new species, Kuzicus (Neokuzicus) uvarovi. Ingrisch & Shishodia (2000) erected another new subgenus Parakuzicus, and described two new species: Kuzicus (Parakuzicus) cervicus and Kuzicus (Parakuzicus) excavatus, and transferred Xiphidiopsis forficatus Bolívar, 1900 to the subgenus Kuzicus (Parakuzicus). Mao et al. (2009) reviewed the genus Kuzicus from China, and reported one new species, Kuzicus (Kuzicus) multifidous Mao & Shi, 2009. Up to now, the genus Kuzicus includes 3 subgenera and 13 species all over the world (Bolívar, 1900; Matsumura & Shiraki, 1908; Tinkham, 1943; Gorochov, 1993; Ingrisch & Shishodia, 1998; Ingrisch & Shishodia, 2000; Sänger & Helfert, 2004; Sänger & Helfert, 2006a, 2006b; Ingrisch, 2006; Mao et al., 2009). This paper describes one new species. The type specimen is preserved in the Museum of Hebei University. Morphological images were acquired using Leica DFC 450 digital imaging system. The following conventions were adopted for the specimen measurements: Body—the distance from apex of fastigium of vertex to the posterior margin of tenth abdominal tergite; tegmen—the distance from the base of tegmen to the apex; hind femur—the distance from base of postfemur to the apex of genicular lobe. Kuzicus (Kuzicus) compressus Han & Shi sp. nov. Figs. A–I. Description. Male. Head. Fastigium of vertex conical, apex obtusely rounded, with a longitudinal sulcus dorsally. Eyes globular, protruding outward. Maxillary palpi long, apical segment almost equal to subapical one, apex widened. Thorax. Pronotum short, anterior margin slightly projecting in middle, posterior margin obtusely rounded; humeral sinus indistinct, metazona raised. Thoracic auditory spiracle peanut-shaped, exposed. Legs. Fore and middle legs broken. Hind femora without spines on ventral surface. Hind tibiae with 24 internal spines and 26 external spines on dorsal surface, 1 pair of ventral apical spurs and 2 pairs of dorsal apical spurs. Wings. Tegmina narrowly long, surpassing apices of hind femora, apices rounded; hind wings longer than tegmina. 398 Accepted by D. • Singleton Molecular Species Delimitation Based on COI-5P
Zhou et al. BMC Evolutionary Biology (2019) 19:79 https://doi.org/10.1186/s12862-019-1404-5 RESEARCHARTICLE Open Access Singleton molecular species delimitation based on COI-5P barcode sequences revealed high cryptic/undescribed diversity for Chinese katydids (Orthoptera: Tettigoniidae) Zhijun Zhou*, Huifang Guo, Li Han, Jinyan Chai, Xuting Che and Fuming Shi* Abstract Background: DNA barcoding has been developed as a useful tool for species discrimination. Several sequence- based species delimitation methods, such as Barcode Index Number (BIN), REfined Single Linkage (RESL), Automatic Barcode Gap Discovery (ABGD), a Java program uses an explicit, determinate algorithm to define Molecular Operational Taxonomic Unit (jMOTU), Generalized Mixed Yule Coalescent (GMYC), and Bayesian implementation of the Poisson Tree Processes model (bPTP), were used. Our aim was to estimate Chinese katydid biodiversity using standard DNA barcode cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI-5P) sequences. Results: Detection of a barcoding gap by similarity-based analyses and clustering-base analyses indicated that 131 identified morphological species (morphospecies) were assigned to 196 BINs and were divided into four categories: (i) MATCH (83/131 = 64.89%), morphospecies were a perfect match between morphospecies and BINs (including 61 concordant BINs and 22 singleton BINs); (ii) MERGE (14/131 = 10.69%), morphospecies shared its unique BIN with other species; (iii) SPLIT (33/131 = 25.19%, when 22 singleton species were excluded, it rose to 33/109 = 30.28%), morphospecies were placed in more than one BIN; (iv) MIXTURE (4/131 = 5.34%), morphospecies showed a more complex partition involving both a merge and a split. Neighbor-joining (NJ) analyses showed that nearly all BINs and most morphospecies formed monophyletic cluster with little variation.

E-mail: 1 [email protected]; 2rambo/[email protected] Abstract In this paper, one new genus, three new species are described: Alloxiphidiopsis gen. n., Alloxiphidiopsis cyclolamina sp. n., Alloxiphidiopsis /ongicauda sp. n. and Alloxiphidiopsis ova/is sp. n. (Meconematini). Two new combinations are pro posed: Alloxiphidiopsis emarginata (Tinkham, 1944) comb. n. and Alloxiphidiopsis irregularis (Bey-Bienko, 1962) comb. n. from Xiphidiopsis. A key to the species is given. Key words: Taxonomy, Meconematini, A/loxiphidiopsis, new species Introduction Meconematini is the largest tribe in Meconematinae, which was proposed by Burmeister (1838). 31 genera are presently recognised in this tribe, most of which are distributed in Asia. During the course of a revision of Chinese Meconematini, we discovered that the males of Xiphidiopsis emarginata Tinkham, Xiphidiopsis irregularis Bey-Bienko and three new species have highly modified 9th abdominal tergites, and the females of two species (the others are unknown) have denticulated ovipositors. These characters differ clearly from the other genera of Meconematini. Thus we think it is wiser to treat them as a single genus for the time being. The type specimens are deposited respectively in Shanghai Entomological Museum, Chinese Academy of Sci ences (SEM); Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IZCAS); Nankai University, Tianjing (NUT) and Bishop Museum, Hawaii (BMH). It belongs to the transitional zone of the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau and the middle of Sichuan Basin. It is also famous for the beautiful waterfalls and sufficient streams which provide a good habitat for the lives here. The collecting field are some typical ones of Xuyong County, and the main habitat is covered with herbage and bamboo. Huagaoxi Nature Reserve are admitted in 2003.
