A field day at Te Pahu next Tuesday will have a focus on farm hydrology and sustainable dairying. The day, which the public are welcome to attend, is facilitated by Te Pahu farm discussion group and the Te Pahu LandCare Group. It will provide opportunities to talk directly with scientists from NIWA on issues related to farm hydrology and sustainable dairying. There will also be a chance to explore the local stream and learn how to monitor water quality. Optional afternoon extras are electric fishing and visual soil assessment. The event starts at 10am and is expected to run through to about 1.30pm. It is being held on Sam Fear and Linda Evens’ Limeworks Loop Road farm (at the Te Pahu village end of Limeworks Loop Road, supply number OCC270). The event has sponsorship from the Vet Centre (Te Awamutu) and Ballance Agri Nutrients. Facilitators are Greg Buhler (DairyNZ) and Nardene Berry (NZ Landcare Trust). Presenters include Bob Wilcock and Lucy McKergow (NIWA), Bala Tikkisetty (EW), Anne Lightfoot (Whaingaroa Environment Centre), Britta Deichmann or Mahuru Robb (Kessels and Associates).
