I have the skills to teach French as a Second Language and French Immersion classes in an elementary setting. Spanish – I have a fairly high competency in Spanish and have taken several Spanish courses at the University of Alberta. I have the skills to teach Spanish as a Second Language and Spanish Immersion classes in an elementary setting with support. TEACHING EXPERIENCE Edmonton Public Schools Edmonton, Alberta Mayfield School January – April 2016 Taught in an Early Education classroom with nine students, aged 3-5. Students had a variety of special needs. Taught small group, one on one and full class activities. Acted as a Spanish language interpreter for parents during IPP meetings. Black Gold Public Schools October – December 2015 École Beau Meadow Elementary School Recreation Technician I Taught in grade four classroom with 19 students. Taught all core courses as well as French as a Second Language. Also involved in knitting club, signing club and organizing Remembrance Day Ceremony. Edmonton Public Schools Edmonton, Alberta Lee Ridge School March – May 2014 Taught in a combined grades 2/3 classroom with 24 students; many English Language Learners, two students were designated as having special needs. Taught gym, social studies, science and art as well as some ELA and math. Also taught the BLAP class for gym. OTHER WORK EXPERIENCE City of Edmonton Edmonton, Alberta Recreation Technician I Summers 2012-2015 As a playground leader, worked individually and in a team to develop and implement recreation programming for children aged 3-18. Due to the needs of the participants, I provided instruction in French, English and Spanish. My programming included arts and crafts, games, sports, science experiments and different themed activities every week. Recreation Technician I City of Edmonton (cont.) Edmonton, Alberta Recreation Technician I Summers 2012-2015 As a “ Travelling Playground” leader, visited low income housing projects to provide drop-in, no-cost summer recreation opportunities for children 6-12 years of age, in areas where there are significant barriers impeding access to the traditional playground program. Helped to support enhancement of multicultural groups’ access to sports and recreation and facilitated these neighbourhoods/groups to transition into the more traditional green shack program. As a Multi Activity Program Leader - Core Programs member, provided 2013-2014 leadership for drop-in and registered recreational programs for children/youth ages 6-17 years old (e.g. Brander Garden Rocks at Riverbend Junior High School) Learn to Skate, Winter Shack programs). Prepared program plans and evaluations of activities VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES Edmonton Public Schools 2014-2015 Michael Strembitsky School Classroom Volunteer Volunteered in five grade 2 classes, once every week for the entire school year. Assisted teachers by working one on one and with small groups to help struggling students in ELA, math and science. University of Alberta 2013-2014 High School Model United Nations Conference Foreign Policy Advisor Worked with a team of other volunteers to host a Model United Nations conference for high school students in Edmonton and area. Created and maintained a blog detailing how to conduct research, write an essay and behave in a debate.
