TEAM LEADER MANUAL – LILLEHAMMER 2021 Version November, 2020 TEAM LEADER MANUAL – LILLEHAMMER 2021 Version November, 2020 WELCOME Lillehammer 2021 Team Leader’s Guide Welcome Message Dear Team Leader, Welcome to the Lillehammer 2021 World Para Snow Sports Championships. This is the first time that the Para alpine skiing, Para biathlon, Para cross-country and Para snowboard World Championships are held jointly in one host country. And with one year to go until the Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games, the stakes have never been higher. Lillehammer 2021 is the biggest Para sport to take place in the city and in Norway since the 1994 Paralympic Winter Games. During this period, Lillehammer has also hosted the 2016 Youth Olympic Winter Games and several World Para Snow Sports, FIS and IBU World Cups. At the World Para Snow Sports Championships, the Para cross-country and biathlon races will be held in Lillehammer, while the Para alpine and Para snowboard events will take place at the neighboring mountain resort Hafjell. With two venues and a total of 750 participants expected and, Lillehammer 2021 poses an operation challenge that only an experienced Local Organizing Committee (LOC) in a city so used to major events can deal with. As all of us, Lillehammer has also been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. But World Para Snow Sports and the Lillehammer 2021 LOC have been in permanent contact with, and followed all recommendations and rules set by Norway’s health authorities for the World Championships. The safety and well-being of athletes, teams, officials, staff, volunteers, media professionals and the general public will always be the number one priority. In this guide you will find all the information you need to know about the competition, the venues, transport, accommodation and other important areas. Please do not hesitate to contact the LOC and World Para Snow Sports in case you have any question. I am already looking forward to outstanding performances and an unforgettable event. Dear Team Leader, let me first take this opportunity to say how much we are looking forward to welcome you all to Lillehammer and Hafjell, and to the biggest event in Norway for para athletes since the 1994 Paralympics! The number one goal for the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) in this challenging situation, is to host a successful and safe Championship in the best interest of the Athletes and the entire para snow sports community. The Norwegian Ski Federation works intensively, together with the OC, to make plans that allows Norway to host the Championship this coming winter. We will continue to update you, together with the great team at World Para Snow Sports, on the instalment of the Testing Protocol and The Infectious Decease Guidelines. The athletes are doing everything within their power to practice their sport and, achieve their dreams and reach their goals. They should expect that we as organizers give it our very best! With Lillehammer 2021 we aim to: • Leave a lasting legacy for Norwegian and international para sports. • Host «The best para snow sports championships ever». • Foster new heroes that can inspire talents to strive for their best and everyone to be more active. The fierce, yet friendly, races will off course be at the core of the Championship, but we will also include cultural events to make it a celebration of sports and athletes. In addition, we are finalizing a learn and share program with workshops and seminars. As you all know by now, history will be made in 2021 when we host the first joint World Para Snow Sports Championships. At the OC, we would like to thank the team at IPC and World Para Snow Sports for their vision for our sports. The information will be updated on the official page: https://www.paralympic.org/lillehammer-2021 In this manual you will find information about everything you need to know before the Championship in Lillehammer. The most important thing you need to do is to keep updated on the times for registration of the team officials and athletes both for the competitions and the details for your stay so we can make your stay in Lillehammer as good as possible. You will find a detailed information about this in chapter 3. Logistics. We now kindly ask all Teams to register for accommodation, transport, meals and more at The Lillehammer 2021 Hospitality Platform that is available at hospitality.lillehammer2021.com. Due to the Covid-19 situation all the bookings of accommodation, transport and catering have to go through Lillehammer 2021. This is to keep track of where the most important persons of the event are staying, and to keep you safe and healthy. The important dates you need to remember to book hotel and transportation for the Championship: 1 Opening of online registration form by number of hotel rooms 30 October 2020 2 Closing of online registration form by number of hotel rooms 06 December 2020 3 Opening of online registration form for transport 30 October 2020 4 Closing of online registration form for transport 06 December 2020 5 Opening of online registration form for stay details 01 January 2021 6 Closing of online registration form for stay details 22 January 2021 The hotel rooms are reserved from 05 February to the 20 February, which will be the final day of competitions. We also have several rooms reserved until 21/22 February, so please let us know your preferred day for check out. Please also let us know if you need to check in before or after these specific dates. The cost for the hospitality service is EUR 130 for one person in a double room per day. The price includes all meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner), accommodation and shuttle service to the competition venues and back to the hotel every day. There will be an extra fee for transportation from the airport to Lillehammer and back. Because of Covid-19 we will come back to you with prices for the transfer service. Watten2 1Lillehammer University College, Lillehammer (Norway), 2Hadeland Neuropsychological Centre, Gran (Norway) We have investigated gender differences in academic achievements in two age cohorts of students from the Lower Secondary School in Norway (2000, 2005; 15-16 year olds). In the 2000 and 2005 cohorts the female students outperformed male students in twelve out of thirteen academic disciplines, including mathematics and nature-science. Physical education was the only discipline where the male students had higher grade points than the female students. In both cohorts the results showed a significant effect of season of birth: Students who were born in the Nordic winter-spring season had slightly higher grade points than students born in the summer-autumn season.     LILLEHAMMER OLYMPIC PARK Olympic City: Lillehammer Country: Norway Edition of the Games: 1994 Winter Olympic Games Preliminary remarks As you may have seen, two governance cases are dedicated to Lillehammer. Reasons that support this choice are twofold. First, Lillehammer hosted two editions of the Games. If the latter built upon the former to deliver great Games, it also produced its own legacy and consequently, structures to deal with it. Second, as legacy is about both venues and facilities at one side and education, knowledge transfer and experience sharing at the other side, two different cases were necessary to encompass various ways Lillehammer manages its Olympic legacy(ies). Inherited from the 1994 Games, the Lillehammer Olympic Park is a structure run by the municipality of Lillehammer that takes care of the majority of Olympic venues and events. The Lillehammer Olympic Legacy Sports Centre is an emanation of the Norwegian Sports Federation and Olympic and Paralympic Committee and is a direct legacy of the YOG. Obviously, many bridges and crossovers exist between these structures and collaboration and common understanding are key. The big picture also encloses the Norwegian Top Sports Centre of the Innland region dedicated to elite athletes (Olympiatoppen Innlandet), the University, the Olympic Legacy Studies Centre as well as the remaining Olympic venues run by other municipalities or private companies. With all these partners involved in managing Lillehammer’s Olympic legacy, clusters (venues, events, training, research, etc.) facilitate organisation and legacy management.
