Reviews Keith Loria, on theatermania.com, called the show “a tender glimpse into the Hineses’ rise to fame and a touching tribute to a brother.” Benjamin Tomchik wrote in Broadway World, that the show “seems determined not only to love the audience, but to entertain them, and it succeeds at doing just that! While Tappin' Thru Life does have some flaws, it's hard to find anyone who isn't won over by Hines showmanship, humor, timing and above all else, talent.” In The Washington Post, Nelson Pressley wrote, “’Tappin’ is basically a breezy, personable concert. The show doesn’t flinch from hard-core nostalgia; the heart-on-his-sleeve Hines is too sentimental for that. It’s frankly schmaltzy, and it’s barely written — it zips through selected moments of Hines’s life, creating a mood more than telling a story. it’s a pleasure to be in the company of a shameless, ebullient vaudeville heart.” Maurice Hines Is .

WELCOME FROM THE OFFICE OF THE DIRECTORS ere we are at Paper Mill Playhouse for the exciting world premiere of Unmasked: The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber, celebrating the most prolific Broadway Hcomposer of our day. We are honored to collaborate with such a superstar and to have you join us. Paper Mill favorite JoAnn M. Hunter (fresh from our Cinderella—it’s as if we never said goodbye) has helmed this elegant production as both director and choreographer, working with Mr. Lloyd Webber himself and the accomplished comedy writer Richard Curtis. We also welcome primo music director Sam Davis, the best technicolor designers in the business, and a high-flying cast—wait till you hear them sing the music of the night. Our Board of Trustees welcomed two new members earlier this season, Ian Mount of Short Hills and Greg Perruzzi of Montclair. We look forward to working with them and drawing on the passion and expertise they bring to our organization. The board is busy preparing for our highly anticipated annual fundraising gala on Friday, May 15, chaired by trustee Larry Goren and his wife, Susan. This year we are incredibly pleased to honor our valued partner Merck and Don Watson, Vice President Global Workplace and Enterprise Services, with the Byrne/Kean Arts Advocate Award. In addition, our very own dedicated board member Audrey Bartner will receive the esteemed Antoinette Scudder Patron of the Arts Award. Additional gala honorees and entertainers will be announced shortly (see page 23 for more details). Won’t you please consider becoming a Member of Paper Mill Playhouse with a tax-deductible contribution of $100 or more? As you may know, we are a mission-driven, not-for-profit organization, but our box office income pays for only half of the total operating budget, which includes much, much more than the first-class productions you see on our stage.
