As p e r the guidelines, i s s u e d by the Ministry vide Circular N o . R W / NH- 33044/29/2015/S&R(R) dated 22.11.16, t h e proposal for Highway crossing permission along & a c r o s s National Highways shall be put out in t h e p u b l i c domain for 30 days for s e e k i n g claims and objections o n grounds o f p u b l i c inconvenience, s a f e t y a n d general p u b l i c interest. 3.     10/31/2018 District Irrigation Profiles IRRIGATION PROFILE OF KURNOOL DISTRICT *Click here for Ayacut Map INTRODUCTION Kurnool district with a Population of 40.47 Lakhs lies between latitude 14°-54' North to 16°-11' and longitude 76°-56' East to 78°-25' East. 58.60% of Kurnool District lies in Krishna basin and 41.40% in Pennar Basin. This district is bounded by Tungabhadra and Krishna Rivers and Mahaboob Nagar District in North, Kadapa and Ananthapur Districts on South, Karnataka State on West and Prakasham District in the East. The main rivers flowing in the district are (1) Tungabhadra River which is a tributary to Krishna River (2) Hundri, a tributary to Tungabhadra (3) Kundu River is a major tributary to River Penna. Kurnool is city and the headquarters of Kurnool district in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is also known as the Gateway to Rayalaseema. Kurnool served as the state capital of Andhra (not Andhra Pradesh) from 1 October 1953 to 31 October 1956. As of 2011 census, it is the fifth most populous city, with a population of 424,920. Etymology: The name Kurnool is derived from "Kandanavolu", "the city known as Kandenapalli" or "the city of Kandena". Kandena is a Telugu word; it means grease. The city was also called the city of Skanda or Kumaraswamy (the chief God of Wars) History: Little was known about Kurnool Town before the 11th century. The earliest knowledge of this settlement dates from the 11th century. It has developed as transit place on the southern banks of the river Tungabhadra and was commonly known as 'Kandenavolu'.

It includes the southern districts of Chittoor, Kadapa and Kurnool Anantapur, with an area of 67,526 km2, Rayalaseema is larger than Himachal Pradesh Kerala, Punjab, and nine other states in India. It has a population of 15,184,908, which is 30.03% of the state population. Rayalaseema borders the state of Tamil Nadu to the south, Karnataka to the west. Introduction: The region contributes 52 assembly segments to Andhra pradesh state legislature and 8 parliamentary constituencies to Indian parliament. These Telugu-speaking districts were part of the Madras Presidency until 1953, when Telugu-speaking districts of the Presidency were carved out to form Andhra State. From 1953 to 1956, the region was part of Andhra State. In 1956, the Telangana region was merged with Andhra State to form Andhra Pradesh State. Earlier, Bellary district was part of Rayalaseema. With the formation of states based on languages, Bellary was joined to Karnataka. The city of Bellary, which has large numbers of both Kannada and Telugu speakers, was included in Mysore after protracted debate and controversy. Rayalaseema was ruled by Sri Krishna Devaraya. Rayalaseema was the original home of the Eastern Chalukyas, which gradually extended their sway over Karnataka under pressure from the Chola kings. Although Rayalaseema is a small region compared to the rest of Telugu-speaking areas, its contribution to Telugu, Kannada, Tamil, and Urdu arts, culture and literature is immense.
