2.5. Diagnostic Notes The tribe Bostrichini is characterised by:

- First and second antennal club segments not cup-shaped, more or less compressed laterally or flabellate - Hind coxal cavities completely or incompletelty margined by a sharp raised ridge along the anterior margin of the first visible abdominal sternite

The genus _Lichenophanes_ is characterised by:

- Body length: 5.5-15.5mm - Antennal club segments with two completely margined circular sensory areas - Metepisterna not densely hariy and often not visible - Elytrons usually with ridges and or tubercles - Pronotum often with a pair of raised, convex swellings on the disc

There are 36 known valid species in this genus.

Diagnostic characteristics of this species include:

- Body length: 7.0-12.0mm - Anterior angle of horns extended into slender horns - Two crenulate dorsal ridges on each elytron - the inner one strongly elevated and extending from the base of apical declivity, the outer one usually only indicated posteriorly - A prominent and pointed (but not spinelike) process at the base of each elytron (on each side of the scutellum) - On the disc of the elytrons (especially between the elytral suture and inner dorsal ridge) are irregular patches of scales and a number of small granules.
