Biography

Gabrielle Goodman is a phenomenal vocalist, , educator and author who is currently working on her fifth CD entitled Spiritual Tapestry. An extremely versatile artist, Goodman sings , R&B, gospel and classical . Her CDs entitled “ From The Book” “Angel Eyes”, “Until We Love” and “Travelin Light” have been praised by jazz and R&B enthusuaists all over the world for the powerful vocal performances.

A graduate of the Peabody Conservatory and longtime Professor of Voice at the Berklee College of Music, Goodman has recorded four internationally acclaimed jazz CDs, two of which were for the Verve label. The Verve CDs, respectively entitled, “Travelin’ Light” “and “Until Love” feature her with former Tonight Show bandleader, Kevin Eubanks, saxophonists, Gary Bartz, and Gary Thomas, bassist, Christian Mcbride, and many other jazz giants. Goodman’s 2004 smooth jazz CD entitled “Angel Eyes” features her with saxophonists, Walter Beasley and Andre Ward and vocalist, Armsted Christian. Ms. Goodman is currently poised to release her new CD entitled Spiritual Tapestry. Her forthcoming CD includes an exciting collection of negro spirituals with jazz and gospel treatments. As before, the singer is featured with a who’s who of jazz artists including Patrice Rushen, Terri Lyne, Carrington, Walter Beasley and Yoron Israel among other noted players.

Prior to embarking on a solo recording career Goodman toured the world as a backing vocalist with Chaka Khan, Roberta Flack, , Patti Labelle and Brian Ferry to name a few. In addition to providing backing vocals for many legendary artists, Goodman penned the smash hit, “You Can Make The Story Right” for Chaka Khan. Her compositions also appear on her own CDs, as well as other artists. While writing and recording, Goodman also performed on many of the world’s most prestigious jazz festivals with her own group including the Montreux, the North Sea, Newport jazz festivals and many others to rave reviews.

A sought after educator, Goodman has taught at Berklee College in Boston for over 15 years. She has also conducted workshops in Japan, Russia, China, Trinidad, Bermuda, Hawaii and various other places throughout the US. As an author, Goodman’s celebrated Vocal Improvisation book is used throughout the world as a teaching tool for improvisation in the jazz, gospel and R&B idioms.

In addition to teaching and recording, the versatile artist has also performed with many of the leading orchestras in the United States and abroad. She has appeared as a guest vocalist with the Baltimore Symphony, The Boston Pops, The National Symphony, the Yamayumiri Symphony, the Syracuse Symphony and the Akron Symphony performing classical, jazz and gospel. She has also appeared in “Ain’t Misbehavin” in Montreal, Canada where she co-starred with Dee Dee Bridgewater, “King” (a gospel opera by Maya Angelou) and “Forever Swing” where she co-starred with Michael Buble.
