TASK 1 REPORT (Rl) IDENTIFICATION OF CHEMICALS AND RADIONUCLIDES USED AT ROCKY FLATS I PROJECT BACKGROUND ChemRisk is conducting a Rocky Flats Toxicologic Review and Dose Reconstruction study for The Colorado Department of Health. The two year study will be completed by the fall of 1992. The ChemRisk study is composed of twelve tasks that represent the first phase of an independent investigation of off-site health risks associated with the operation of the Rocky Flats nuclear weapons plant northwest of Denver. The first eight tasks address the collection of historic information on operations and releases and a detailed dose reconstruction analysis. Tasks 9 through 12 address the compilation of information and communication of the results of the study. Task 1 will involve the creation of an inventory of chemicals and radionuclides that have been present at Rocky Flats. Using this inventory, chemicals and radionuclides of concern will be selected under Task 2, based on such factors as the relative toxicity of the materials, quantities used, how the materials might have been released into the environment, and the likelihood for transport of the materials off-site. An historical activities profile of the plant will be constructed under Task 3. Tasks 4, 5, and 6 will address the identification of where in the facility activities took place, how much of the materials of concern were released to the environment, and where these materials went after the releases. Task 7 addresses historic land-use in the vicinity of the plant and the location of off-site populations potentially affected by releases from Rocky Flats.

    1301:7-9-03 Reporting requirements for hazardous substances and list of hazardous substances. (A) Purpose. For the purpose of prescribing rules pursuant to section 3737.88 of the Revised Code, the fire marshal hereby adopts this rule to establish reporting requirements for underground storage tank systems that contain hazardous substance(s) and to list those substances which are hereby identified as hazardous substances. This rule is adopted by the fire marshal in accordance with Chapter 119 of the Revised Code and shall not be considered a part of the "Ohio Fire Code". (B) Definitions. For the purpose of this rule: (1) "Release of a hazardous substance" means: (a) Any spilling, leaking, emitting, discharging, escaping, leaching or disposing of a hazardous substance(s) from an underground storage tank system into the ground water, a surface water body, subsurface soils or otherwise into the environment; (b) Any spilling, leaking, emitting, discharging, escaping, or disposing of a hazardous substance(s) into ground water, a surface water body, subsurface soils or otherwise into the environment while transferring or attempting to transfer a hazardous substance(s) into an underground storage tank system; or (c) Contamination of subsurface soils or ground water on the UST site by a hazardous substance(s) found and confirmed through laboratory analysis of samples from the UST site. Richard Sullivan was looking for a better way to control color and contrast in a palladium or platinum/palladium printing system. About 20 years prior to then, Richard has tried Guisppe Pizzighelli’s Printing Out Process (POP) developed in the late 1800’s without much success. In the mid 1980’s, Dr. Michael Ware developed a variation of Pizzighelli’s POP process which has enjoyed a loyal but small following. This process is also a variation of Pizzighelli’s process. It uses lithium (or cesium) palladium chloride as the primary metal and ferric ammonium oxalate for the iron compound. In the Pizzighelli and Ware versions, color and contrast are interlocked and controlled largely by humidity.
