Cassandra Fairbanks Project Veritas, a controversial investigative journalism initiative that made waves multiple times during the election season, has released 119 hours of secretly recorded raw audio from a source within the Atlanta CNN headquarters. James O’Keefe, the founder and president of Project Veritas, has also offered a $10,000 reward for content exposing media malfeasance. “Project Veritas is determined to expose malfeasance, corruption and wrongdoing,” said O’Keefe. © AFP 2016/ JEWEL SAMAD “We want to become a destination James O’Keefe’s Project Veritas Drops New Video Implicating Hillary Clinton, where citizen journalists can come US Democrats forward, work with us and make a real impact. That’s why today, we’re announcing a $10,000 award for anyone that comes forward with legally obtained materials exposing media malfeasance. If you have hidden audio recordings, video tapes or documents inside of a news room or media institution–and the material is good enough–I will pay you $10,000.” The audio, which was released in a WikiLeaks style dump, was recorded in 2009 by a source identified only as “Miss X.” When asked if they were concerned about wiretapping laws, Project Veritas explained to Sputnik News that Georgia is a one-party consent state for audio recording — and therefore legal. O’Keefe told Sputnik News prior to the release that Project Veritas was only able to go through a portion of the audio, due to the massive amount of content. They were freaking out that their hosts would be featured in the tapes — sleepless nights over at CNN,” O’Keefe said at the release in a suite at CPAC. #CNNLeaks: Project Veritas Releases Over 100 Hours of Audio From Inside CNN Richard Griffiths, who is now CNN’s Vice President and Senior Editorial Director, was also caught in the audio recordings explaining that the role of journalists is to “aid the afflicted and afflict the comfortable,” instead of just accurately reporting the news. “Tell a story. Tell what’s going on. There’s a secondary corollary to that, right? Aid the afflicted and afflict the comfortable. To a degree, right? Is that not part of the traditional role of a journalist? It’s actually one of the things I can be most proud of as a journalist. You know we try to show the ugly side of humanity so we can do something about it. It’s just, it’s dishonest,” Brice laments. Another discussion concerning inaccurate poll numbers about Supreme Court Justice Sotomayor. Other clips from the recordings include discussions openly speaking about the network’s profound liberal bias. O’Keefe has called on the internet to help scour through the footage and transcribe the conversations. SUMMARY: This white paper examines President Trump’s campaign to fan distrust of the news media (Fox News excepted) through his tweeting of the phrase “Fake News (Media).” The report identifies and illustrates eight delegitimation techniques found in the twenty-five most retweeted Trump tweets containing that phrase between January 1, 2017 and August 31, 2018. The report also looks at direct responses and public reactions to those tweets, as found respectively on the comment thread at @realdonaldtrump and in random samples (N = 2500) of US computer-based tweets containing the term on the days in that time period of his most retweeted “Fake News” tweets. Along with the high percentage of retweets built into this search, the sample exhibits techniques and patterns of response which are identified and illustrated. The main findings: ● The term “fake news” emerged in public usage in October 2016 to describe hoaxes, rumors, and false alarms, primarily in connection with the Trump-Clinton presidential contest and its electoral result. ● President-elect Trump adopted the term, intensified it into “Fake News,” and directed it at “Fake News Media” starting in December 2016-January 2017. 1 ● Subsequently, the term has been used on Twitter largely in relation to Trump tweets that deploy it. In other words, “Fake News” rarely appears on Twitter referring to something other than what Trump is tweeting about.

    Engagement with False Content Producers Plummeted on Twitter and Facebook Adrienne Goldstein Manipulative News Sites Accounted for a Record Share of Facebook Interactions Sites that gather and present information irresponsibly (according to the news-rating service NewsGuard) accounted for a record-high one-fifth of Facebook interactions with U.S.-based sitesi in the second quarter of 2021, while engagement with articles from outlets that repeatedly publish false content plummeted on Twitter and Facebook. This occurred amidst an overall decline in engagement with all types of sites. After all-time highs in engagement with both types of deceptive news outlets in 2020, sites that publish false content have seen their engagement drop at much higher rates than U.S.- based sites in general, likely as a result of account takedowns and changes in policies around COVID-19 misinformation and content moderation. The changes demonstrate that Facebook and Twitter have the tools to address disinformation. However, outlets that gather and present information irresponsibly without publishing false content present a special challenge to the platforms. These sites can help spread conspiracies theories about elections and vaccines, highlighting the need for what GMF Digital calls “democratic design” principles to promote transparency and civic information. • Amidst an overall decline in Facebook interactions with U.S.-based sites that began in the latter half of 2020, interactions with outlets that collect and present information irresponsibly dropped in the second quarter of 2021. They fell by slightly less than the drop in overall traffic (35 percent vs 38 percent) and by far less than a sample of 106 trustworthy sites with perfect NewsGuard ratings (56 percent) or sites that repeatedly publish false content (54 percent).

Coincidentally, the FB avatar for Health Goth's page is the Under Armour logo, but with smoke coming out of it, so one can tell it's countercultural, not corporate. It would be bad, after all, for Health Goth to be confused with Under Armour, whose CEO Kevin Plank has praised President Trump by saying, "To have such a pro-business president is something that is a real asset for the country.

Fairbanks testified that Arthur Schwartz, a wealthy Republican Party donor and key Trump ally, had told her that Assange was taken from the Ecuadorian Embassy “on orders from the president.” The conversation between Schwartz and Fairbanks occurred in September 2019 and was recorded by Fairbanks. Schwartz, a frequent visitor to the White House and “informal adviser” or “fixer” to Donald Trump Jr., told Fairbanks the president’s orders were conveyed via US Ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell, who brokered a deal with the Ecuadorian government for Assange’s removal. Grenell is currently director of national intelligence (acting), appointed by Trump in February this year.
