April6. 1979 By DEBORAH PETIT MIDDLETOWN, Pa.,- With a potential core melt-down now greatly reduced, officials at the Three Mile Island Nuclear Reactor Site are turning their attention to the pro blems of cleaning up radioactive substances left by the re cent reactor accident. Upon analysis of the extent of damage incurred in the mishap and the level of radioactive contamination left in the reactor, experts will determine the fate of the Three Mile site. An evaluation of the costs involved will leave the officials with the options of either refurbishing or decommissioning the plant. Both of which would require large amounts of time and money. · The projected time for complete decontamination of the reactor now stands at least one to two years. Additional time beyond ~hat estimate would be required to bring the plant back to operational levels. Cost estimates for the refurbishment of the reactor can not be determined from present data. The costs and time involved in decommissioning the site, however, can be more accurately determined from previous studies done by the Nuclear Regulatory Commis sion (NRC). WTC SUMMER HOMEWORK Read Charting the History of British Music Video (MM66), by Emily Caston. (BELOW) Answer the following questions, drawing on the article for information and ideas. 1. According to the article’s writer, Emily Caston, how significant was MTV in the development of British music video production? 2. What criteria did Emily Caston and her team use for selecting music videos for their 6-DVD box set? What are your thoughts about the criteria? What music videos do you know that you would include in such a selection? 3. Bohemian Rhapsody is often quoted as being the first British music video. The article argues otherwise. Why is that? Why was ‘Bo-Rhap’ not included in the box set? 4. The box set is made up of six different categories: performance; concept; dance; stories; wit; portraits. If you were putting together a selection of videos, what categories would you choose to use? 5. The article ends by noting that videos are now consumed by millions globally, ‘uncurated on mobile platforms’. What might be the significance of a curated collection in light of these consumption patterns? Curating your own collection Imagine that you have been given the chance to curate a selection of music videos to represent your experience of secondary school, from the moment you joined until the end of Year 11. Select five videos that you want to include in your selection. Outline in writing what is significant about each video, both as an art form in its own right, and in relation to your time at secondary school.

April 9, 2010 Jeremy Porter Howler's Coyote Cafe Friday April 9, 2010 Bloomfield In an effort to preview new music and upcoming shows of worth, I am starting a new feature here. Rather than an interview, I will ask few questions pertaining to an artists' musical taste. Today, I ask Jeremy Porter (who has a long and interesting career) to participate. The first album you ever bought? "KISS Alive! or Cheap Trick at Budokan. I remember hearing I Want You To Want Me and just being drawn in by that melody. I couldn’t get it out of my head and to this day melody and hooks are my favorite parts of music. Truth is though, it was probably Alive! I knew I wanted a KISS record, I knew it had to have Rock And Roll All Night on it, and Alive! had so many songs. Seemed like a good choice. Funny that they were both live records!" Your last album bought? "The Big To-Do by the Drive-By Truckers. Lots of people see them as the best band in the world these days. I have trouble arguing that. They have been unbelievably consistent for many years. This record is a bit shorter and a bit more rockin’ than the last couple, but the perfect follow up to last year’s Brighter Than Creations Dark." Favorite album of all time? "Tough question. It rotates around a bit I suppose. Let it Be by The Replacements is up there. Exile on Main Street (Rolling Stones) or Quadrophenia by The Who.
