Rancho SP John Rooney (1-1) notched Inland Empire 11 22 .333 9 his first-career Cal League win, tossing five-plus innings with just two earned runs. The bullpen, over the course of four innings, allowed just one run to secure the close victory. Brandon Montgomery, the normal infielder, Melvin Jimenez and Darien Nunez were the three arms to back up Rooney and help him get his first win. Nunez grabbed his second save in as many tries with 1.1 scoreless CAL LEAGUE SCOREBOARD innings, extending his scorless-innings streak to 11.1 frames. The loss fell upon Sixers’ SP Cristopher Molina (0-3), giving up four YESTERDAY earned runs in 5.2 innings of work. TOUGH HISTORY ON MONDAY: For all their 2019 successes on the road, the Quakes got skunked in the ultimate way on Monday Lake Elsinore 10 at Lancaster 5 to complete their previous six-game road trip. Three Stockton pitchers combined to no-hit the Quakes over nine innings in an 11-0 San Jose 5 at Visalia 4 shutout over Rancho. Bryce Conley (3-0) went the first six innings and walked four, while punching out six in the win. Eric Marinez Stockton 1 at Modesto 6 fired two perfect innings before Jake Bray got the final three outs, working around a walk to cap the first no-hitter for Stockton Inland Empire 3 at Rancho Cucamonga 4 since 1990. The 3-3 trip has Rancho’s road record at 36-18, just six wins away from tying the TOMORROW franchise mark for road wins in a season (42), set by last year’s championship club. Lake Elsinore at Lancaster, 6:35 PM ANDRE JACKSON: Right-hander Andre Jackson looks to continue his solid run, as he makes his 10th start with the Quakes and San Jose at Visalia, 7:00 PM second against Inland Empire. Jackson has allowed a combined six earned runs over his last five starts, spanning a total of 25.2 Stockton at Modesto, 7:05 PM innings. In his last outing, the right-hander allowed three earned runs on eight hits over 5.1 innings, taking his third-straight no-de- Inland Empire at Rancho Cucamonga, 7:05 PM cision. The Vail, AZ native finished off that outing against the Giants retiring nine out of the last 10 batters that he faced. He opened the year in Great Lakes of the Midwest League and was named a mid-season All-Star, after going 4-1 with a 2.23 ERA in 10 starts. Last season, Jackson split time between the Arizona League Dodgers (2-0, 3.44 ERA, 4 G) and Great Lakes (1-5, 4.35 ERA, 14 GS). 2019 QUAKES AT A GLANCE Drafted in the 12th round of the 2017 June Draft out of the University of Utah. 1st Half Record: 41-27 OLIVER ORTEGA: RHP Oliver Ortega is set to record his 15th start and 20th overall appearance of the season in game two of this 2nd Half Record: 20-13 series. Ortega enters into Wednesday morning with a 3-5 record and a solid 3.44 ERA. The right-hander’s last outing came against vs Inland Empire: 16-4 Visalia on July 19th, where he produced the worst outing of his career. Ortega was able to last 5.1 innings, but he surrendered a ca- reer-high six earned runs on seven hits. In his five appearances against the Quakes (three starts), Ortega has a 2.25 ERA, surrendered vs IE Home 6-2 just six earned across 24 frames.
