The aim was not only to support embattled Kurdish forces in the region, but also to protect thousands of beleaguered members of the mysterious religious minority known as the Yazidis. Americans soon learned that the Islamists were targeting the Yazidis for their reputation as “devil worshipers.” News organizations scrambled to find experts who could provide clarification—among them Gerard Russell, a former British diplomat and a fluent speaker of Arabic and Dari, who had widely traveled in Iraq and adjacent regions, and was about to publish Heirs to Forgotten Kingdoms.* The Yazidis, as he explained, do indeed have some rather startling beliefs: among other things their religion forbids them to eat lettuce or to wear the color blue. As I found on its perusal that later Zoroas- trianism had contributed not a little to the formation of the doctrine of the Yezidi religion and that some religious customs and beliefs of the Yezidis had a striking resemblance to those of the Zoroastrians of India and Iran, I decided to place the work before the Parsis in an English translation, following therein the example of my well-wisher and patron, the late Dr.

Yazidis and the Original Religion of the Near East | Indistinct Union: Chri... http://indistinctunion.wordpress.com/2007/08/17/yazidis-and-the-original... Indistinct Union: Christianity, Integral Philosophy, and Politics Yazidis and the Original Religion of the Near East The horrific bombing in the Kurdish regions around Kirkuk (death toll estimates currently at 400) targeted the Yazidis, a smallish Kurdish (but non-Muslim) sect. The Ys tended to separate themselves from the Peshmerge (the Kurdish military), which likely resulted in their being left vulnerable to this brutal attack. (For interviews with some Yazidis, here via BBC). Who are theologically the Yazidis ? For repeat readers, they will know I support the (somewhat) controversial thesis of Christian scholar Margaret Barker (known as Royal Temple Theology). Barker’s first work is titled The Older Testament. A brilliant way to describe her point of view–namely that the Judaism that comes across in the Hebrew Bible we currently have has been massively (re)edited, more than most scholars will admit, by the Deuteronomic/Rabbinic schools of Judaism. The Older Testament (as opposed to the “Old Testament” of the Deutro. school) included the belief in two g/Gods. The first was the High God (El, Elyon) who had “sons” (angelic beings). Each angel, known as an angel of the nation, was chosen for a specific people. As above so below. i.e. When their was war on earth between two peoples, their angels were fighting in heaven. Hence all the Psalms rousing YHWH (Israel’s Angel/god) to fight. The second G/god then is YHWH for Israel.

What do you think of it? - Id like to note that the whole international community recognizes and supports the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan. With regard to the peace process, the negotiations mediated by the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs, is an international platform for the settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict based on the norms and principles of international law. In connection with the settlement of the conflict, international organizations have adopted numerous decisions and resolutions based on the norms and principles of international law. The most important documents on the resolution of conflict are four resolutions of the United Nations Security Council Resolutions - 822 (1993), 853 (1993), 874 (1993), 884 (1993), which condemn in a strong manner the use of force against Azerbaijan and the occupation of its territories. The resolutions also reaffirm the UN Security Councils respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan, reconfirm Nagorno-Karabakh an integral part of Azerbaijan and demand the immediate, complete and unconditional withdrawal of occupying forces from all occupied territories of Azerbaijan. - The Russian foreign minister touched upon the issue of the status of Nagorno-Karabakh as well.

New releases mostly on the gloomy side | Denton Record-Chronicle | News for Denton County, Texas | Entertainment: Movies 04/08/2008 08:51 AM New releases mostly on the gloomy side 11:15 AM CDT on Sunday, April 6, 2008 By Boo Allen/Film Critic Prepare this week for some brooding intensity: Rare appearances by two distinct artists mark There Will Be Blood, the fifth movie from writer/director Paul Thomas Anderson, his first since 2002. And, in an Oscar-winning performance, Daniel Day-Lewis returns to the screen for the first time since 2005. Lewis plays Daniel Plainview, a turn-of-the-20th-century oilman, mean, single-focused, and devoid of any limiting attributes such as honor, truth, or kindness. Anderson delivers an authentic portrait of this era, as shown in the DVD supplement The Story of Petroleum. Anderson dips into Upton Sinclair’s obscure novel Oil! for his source, staying with Plainview and the chronicling of his fortunes. This love of money sounds cautionary warnings, as the film’s various characters fall under the spell promised by the riches of an oil strike. Despite the film’s almost epic sweep, Anderson stays close to Daniel Plainview, knowing that the conflict buried in this intense man signals the greatest drama. The singular subplot has Paul Dano playing a smugly religious type involved in a constant, ill-fated feud with Plainview, a battle that further defines Plainview and his quest for supremacy. Oscar-winning cinematographer Robert Elswit works with Anderson to render his customary long takes, but the focus stays mostly on the era’s drabness.

The Guide is available on-line as an e-document, at: www. Homenetmen.net The Homenetmen Leader’s Guide was Developed on the Occasion of the 100th Anniversary of HOMENETMEN As a Tribute to its Remarkable Contribution to Armenian Society, In the Hopes of Educating Future Generations of Leaders to Carry on the Torch. SY 2 PREFACE Homenetmen has bylaws, rules and regulations, but no formal leadership development program. Governing bodies also do not have a comprehensive orientation guide for new board members. Hence this guidebook. This Guide is primarily written for the leadership of Western USA Region. However, the entire Homenetmen family with all of its Regions and Chapters could use this guidebook, with minor adjustments of region specific information. WHY Do We Need to HAVE a GUIDE for LEADERS? Every nonprofit organization needs a board development process. Homenetmen has to give tools to those leaders who are expected to lead our youth, to better explain to them their role and responsibilities, educate them about their position and functions and help improve their performance. Quality leaders are better mentors. This Guide may be utilized for two purposes: 1. As a reference handbook, adopted by any Homenetmen leader, or 2.
