  • NEIGHBOURHOOD DEVELOPMENT PLAN AUGUST 2015 (Including Post Exam Modifications)
BOGNOR REGIS 2015—2030 NEIGHBOURHOOD DEVELOPMENT PLAN AUGUST 2015 (including post exam modifications) I THE REPORT IS MADE ACCESSIBLE AT THIS WEBSITE: WWW.BOGNORREGIS.GOV.UK/BR-TOWN-COUNCIL/NEIGHBOURHOOD_PLAN-16104.ASPX This document has been produced by Bognor Regis Town Council’s Neighbourhood Plan Committee with support from: Imagine Places, Royal Town Planning Institute/Planning Aid England, Locality, Integrated Urbanism, BPUD, the Prince’s Foundation for Building Community and - most importantly - the good people of Bognor Regis that have at various stages of the process so far contributed and helped to shape this plan. Disclaimer: This document is optimised for online viewing only. Please consider the environment before printing. Hardcopies are available for viewing at the Town Hall in Bognor Regis. II FOREWORD WELCOME TO THE BOGNOR REGIS NEIGHBOURHOOD DEVELOPMENT PLAN! Bognor Regis Town Council are very aware of the strength of feeling and loyalty towards the town and the oft-expressed view that many of its finer buildings have been lost over the years or replaced with ones of lesser architectural merit or inappropriately sited. The Town Council believe that having a Neighbourhood Plan in place will give local people much more say in the future planning of the town with regard to buildings and green spaces; their quality, look, feel, usage and location, as well as offering some protection to existing sites and buildings, much loved and valued by the community. The idea of Neighbourhood Plans initially came about because central government felt it important that local people had more of a say in what happened in their own town or village.

  • Eastbourne to Hastings Via Bexhill Walk
Saturday Walkers Club www.walkingclub.org.uk Eastbourne to Hastings via Bexhill walk Flat coastal walk along the south coast past busy sea front promenades and quiet beaches. Shingle Check the tide times before doing this walk - do the middle section at low tide if possible The middle 2 km section of this walk is along a beach which at mid and high tide is all shingle, which is not fun to walk on. At low tide there is a sandy beach below the shingle which is much more pleasant to walk on. At mid/high tide, you could instead walk along the coast road (no sea view), catch a regular bus or irregular train. Length 24 km/15 miles - shorter options from around 8 km/5 miles Toughness 1 out of 10 (7 out of 10 if walking on shingle) Features This gentle walk follows the 15 miles (24 km) of flat coastline between Eastbourne and Hastings. It is in 3 parts - 2 seafront promenades with a quiet shingle beach in between which is nice to walk on only at low tide when the flat sandy part of the beach is uncovered. If doing the middle section, check tide times so you can walk along sand at low tide, rather than the shingle, which is very heavy going. Although the entire walk is quite long, there are shorter options, as there is a railway line following the coast, with several stations en-route. Eastbourne to Pevensey Bay - seafront promenade Starting in Eastbourne, a faded Edwardian grandeur seaside resort, the walk heads from the station down through a pedestrian shopping street to a very nice seafront esplanade and a Victorian pier (1 km) and a sandy beach.

  • Winter 2020/21 Newsletter
East Sussex Hearing Winter 2020/21 Newsletter SEASONS GREETINGS! Our lovely new Eastbourne Centre! As winter approaches we are hopeful that the New Year will bring good news for everyone… turn over to find out more about our hopes and plans for 2021 Registered Charity No: 1101140 Hello from your CEO David Rowan Well, what an eventful year it has been. It started off like most New Year’s do, very quiet. Then, in mid-February we started to hear of cases of a new virus in China that was initially thought to be localised and similar to the SARS virus of 2003. It quickly became apparent that this was a completely different virus and far more infectious. Within a matter of weeks, the virus had spread beyond China and we ultimately ended up with the Coronavirus pandemic that has gone on to effect most, if not all countries in the world. We then went into our first 12-week lockdown and our Centre had to close its doors to the public for the very first time. All our outreach activities were cancelled including lipreading and sign language classes, support groups and our hearing aid maintenance service. However, a skeleton staff continued to work from the office providing vital support and information to clients by telephone, text and email. We also started our new “hearing aid batteries by post” service which we have continued to provide ever since, and will carry on doing until a more ‘normal’ life returns. However, this year has not been all doom and gloom. It was towards the end of the first lockdown that we realised we wouldn’t be able to resume our classes and equipment demonstrations from St Leonards Road because of the new covid distancing requirements and so we took the 2 plunge and moved into new, bright, comfortable and spacious premises in Chantry House, just a short walk from St Leonards Road.

  • Adherents from the Rape of Hastings and Pevensey Lowey of the Jack Cade Rebellion of 1450 Who Were Pardonned
Adherents from the Rape of Hastings and Pevensey Lowey of the Jack Cade Rebellion of 1450 who were pardonned In June 1450 Jack Cade became leader of an originally Kentish rebellion of small property holders penalised by high taxes. The rebellion spread to involve men from neighbouring counties, especially Sussex. Cade assumed the name John Mortimer and demanded the removal of several of the King’s chief ministers and the recall of Richard, Duke of York. The rebel forces defeated a royal army at Sevenoaks, Kent, on 18 June, and went on to London. There the rebels executed the lord treasurer, James Fiennes. A degree of lawlessness followed and Londoners drove the rebels from the city on 5-6 July. The government persuaded many of the rebels to disperse by offering pardons, but Cade continued his activities. He was chased down, wounded and captured at Cade Street near Heathfield, Sussex, on 12 July, and died of his wounds whilst being transported to London. The list below is of those from the Rape of Hastings and Lowey of Pevensey who had taken part in or supported the rebellion and were granted pardons. It gives a good indication of how widespread this rebellion was. It attracted adherents from across the social spectrum and involved whole communities. Undoubtedly there was no way the normal severe capital retributions could be used to punish all those involved or whole communities would have been decimated and made unproductive, but some ringleaders were singled out and executed.
