Keywords Checklist, Finland, Diptera, Anthomyiidae Introduction The family Anthomyiidae is a large and taxonomically difficult group of flies that has for the same reason suffered from unstable taxonomy and nomenclature. A checklist of the anthomyiid species known from pre-war Finland was compiled by their leading regional specialist of calyptrate flies Lauri Tiensuu (1906−1980) and published in Frey et al. (1941). The Anthomyiidae were then not recognized as a separate family but combined with the fanniid and true muscid flies in a comprehensive Muscidae fam- ily equivalent of the present Muscoidea less Scathophagidae. Tiensuu’s list included confirmed records of 199 anthomyiid species classified in 41 genera and subgenera. No less than 34% of the species names and 58% of the genus-group names in that list are Copyright Verner Michelsen. -

Macquart described in the dipteran families Fanniidae, Anthomyiidae and Muscidae, together with a further 5 species-group taxa that belong to other families, 9 replacement names that he proposed, and 1 nomen nudum. Notes are provided on the Diptera collections on which Macquart worked. In the Fanniidae, there are 8 species (and 1 replacement name), in Anthomyiidae, 33 species (and 4 replacement names), and in Muscidae, 144 species (and 4 replacement names). 85 lectotypes are newly designated in order to fix the identity of the names. One ofthem, Botanophila sp., seems to be an undescribed species closely related to B. turcica (Hennig), though it is not given a name as the single available secimen is severely damaged. Delia echinata (Seguy), a widely distributed species in the Holarctic region, is recorded as new to the mainland of Spain. They have well been investigated in Europe, especially in central and northern parts, and about 460 species have been recorded from Europe as a whole. The Spanish fauna of Anthomyiidae has, however, rather poorly been investigated, about 60 or a little more species being known to occur in the mainland (Czerny & Strobl, 1909; Hennig, 1966- 1976; Ackland, 1977; Michelsen & Baez, 1985). -

Objective: Specifically, we aimed to perform a listing the most frequent species in which they occur, identify species that have been previously associated with medico-legal practices and draw perspectives on the status of the scientific research and on the potential of forensic entomology as a routine procedure in the region. Results: 6620 specimens were collected with the method of glue traps; they were belonging to 23 species of Diptera and16 families, during the experiment, we recognized Lucilia sericata and Chrysomya albiceps, like the most important species encountered in local entomofauna, for what concerned the forensic entomology aspects. -

One of many closely related species known as fruit-flies or vinegar-flies because of their liking for rotting fruit and other fermenting materials. Arista of antenna bears fine bristles and appears forked at tip (strong lens!). 2 clear breaks in front edge of wing. Long cell in hind region of wing, with short anal cell behind it, unlike Ephydridae and Chloropidae (p. 210). Most common in summer and autumn: all year in food and drink factories. Fond of wine, often settling on opened bottles and glasses. Breeds in decaying vegetable matter. 8 Leucophenga maculata. Closely related to Drosophila but arrangement of head bris• tles differs. Easily identified by body pattern: thorax silver-haired in male and orange-brown in female. Breeds in fungi. S & C. Drosophila funebris x 5 Leucophenga mined .••. Phytomyza ilicis Agromyzidae. 4-7 in woods, hedgerows, and gardens. Larva exca• maculata x4 holly leaf vates distinctive mine in holly leaf. Mined leaves visible at all seasons, but grubs or pupae present only in spring and early summer. Easy to breed out adults. This large genus is distinguished from many similar groups by lack of posterior cross-vein, but specific identification of adults is difficult. All members ofthe family are leaf miners in their early stages. LOUSE-FLIES Hippoboscidae. Also known as flat-flies, these are flattened, ) blood-sucking parasites of birds and mammals. Head partly sunk into thorax. Phytomyza Long, toothed claws grip feathers or fur of hosts. Many have reduced wings, and ilicis x5 even fully-winged species rarely fly. -

Krivosheina Institute of Ecology and Evolution, Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow, 119071 Russia e-mail: [email protected] Received May 11, 2007 Abstract—The complex of Diptera (except for Sciaroidea) breeding in the fruit bodies of fungi is analyzed. The larvae of some species, such as Cecidomyiidae, Platypezidae, Heleomyzidae (Suilliinae), Anthomyiidae (Pego- mya), Sphaeroceridae, and possibly Phoridae and Syrphidae feed on fresh fungal tissues. The ecological groups of flies are distinguished with respect to the type of feeding and the way of using fungal fruit bodies as habitat. The larvae of most groups developing inside the fruit bodies are saprobionts, typically occurring in decaying organic substrates of various origins.
