Résumé : Les études de phylogénie moléculaire sur les Lépidoptères Rhopalocères et Zygènes sont de plus en plus nombreuses ces dernières années modifiant la systématique et la taxinomie de ces deux groupes. Une mise à jour complète est réalisée dans ce travail. Un cadre décisionnel a été élaboré pour les niveaux spécifiques et infra-spécifique avec une approche intégrative de la taxinomie. Ce cadre intégre notamment un aspect biogéographique en tenant compte des zones-refuges potentielles pour les espèces au cours du dernier maximum glaciaire. Cette démarche permet d’avoir une approche homogène pour le classement des taxa aux niveaux spécifiques et infra-spécifiques. Les conséquences pour l’acquisition des données dans le cadre d’un inventaire national sont développées. Summary : Studies on molecular phylogenies of Butterflies and Burnets have been increasingly frequent in the recent years, changing the systematics and taxonomy of these two groups. A full update has been performed in this work. -

In order to obtain a hypothesis of relationships, we used maximum parsimony and model-based methods with 4435 bp of DNA sequences from mitochondrial and nuclear genes for 179 taxa (130 genera and eight out-groups). We estimated dates of origin and diversification for major clades, and performed a biogeographic analysis using a dispersal–vicariance framework, in order to infer a scenario of the biogeographical history of the group. We found long-branch taxa that affected the accuracy of all three methods. Moreover, different methods produced incongruent phylogenies. We found that Satyrini appeared around 42 Mya in either the Neotropical or the Eastern Palaearctic, Oriental, and/or Indo-Australian regions, and underwent a quick radiation between 32 and 24 Mya, during which time most of its component subtribes originated. Several factors might have been important for the diversification of Satyrini: the ability to feed on grasses; early habitat shift into open, non-forest habitats; and geographic bridges, which permitted dispersal over marine barriers, enabling the geographic expansions of ancestors to new environ- ments that provided opportunities for geographic differentiation, and diversification. -

The Pyrenees A Greentours Holiday for the Alpine Garden Society 10th to 23rd June 2011 Led by Paul Cardy Trip Report and Systematic Lists by Paul Cardy Day 1 Friday 10 th June Arrival and Transfer to Formigueres Having driven from the south western Alps and reached Carcassonne the previous evening, I continued to Toulouse to meet the group at the airport. I was unexpectedly delayed by French customs who stopped me at the toll booth entering the city. There followed a lengthy questioning, as I had to unpack the contents of my suspiciously empty Italian mini-bus and show them my two large boxes of books, suitcase full of clothes, picnic supplies, etc., to convince them my purpose was a botanical tour to the Pyrenees. Now a little late I arrived breathlessly at Toulouse airport and rushed to the gate to meet Margaret, and the New Zealand contingent of Chris, Monica, Archie and Lynsie, hurriedly explaining the delay. Anyway we were soon back on the motorway and heading south towards Foix. White Storks in a field on route was a surprise. We made a picnic stop at a functional aire where there were tables, and a selection of weedy plants. Black Kite soared overhead. Once past Foix and Ax-les- Thermes the scenery became ever more interesting as we wound our way up to a misty Col de Puymorens. There a short stop yielded Pulsatilla vernalis in fruit and Trumpet Gentians. Roadside cliffs had Rock Soapwort, Saxifraga paniculata , and Elder-flowered Orchids became numerous. Now in the Parc Naturel Régional des Pyrénées Catalanes, a fascinating route down into the valley took us through Saillagouse and Mont-Louis before heading up a minor road to the village of Formigueres, our base for the first three nights. -

In order to understand patterns of abundances of migratory Lepidoptera in southernmost Europe and contrast this with those of sedentary species, we studied butterflies surveyed along transects during three spring migration seasons at the Rock of Gibraltar. Overall, 2508 butterflies belonging to 19 species were recorded. Of these, the four most numerous species accounted for almost 88% of all individuals recorded. These were the migratory Clouded Yellow Colias croceus, Red Admiral Vanessa atalanta and Painted Lady Vanessa cardui, and the sedentary Common Blue Polyommatus icarus. There was a significant correlation between abundance of P. icarus and C. croceus. Furthermore, abundances of C. -

Biodiversity Days in Vjosa River, June 13th-15th 2014 GEO Biodiversity Days 2014, Vjosa River REPORT Biodiversity Days in Vjosa River, June 13th-15th 2014 Aim & Scope Between June 13th-15th, the Geo Days of Biodiversity took place at the Vjosa River in Albania. This unique event was organized by the NGOs Riverwatch, Euronatur and PPNEA (Protection and Preservation of Natural Environment in Albania) in cooperation with the German GEO Magazine. The Vjosa River is one of the last living wild rivers in Europe. Along more than 230 kilometers in Albania it is untamed and free flowing, characterized by beautiful canyons, braided river sections and meandering stretches. Together with its tributaries, the Vjosa creates a dynamic near-natural ecosystem ̶ a true European natural heritage. However, eight dams are foreseen along its course in Albania. These dam projects would destroy the unique river system. With respect to EU law, the projects would violate Natura 2000 Directives and the Water Framework Directive. At the same time, the Vjosa is one of Europe´s least explored rivers. Ecological and hydro- morphological data is extremely limited. The GEO Days of Biodiversity were a first attempt to change this, to gather more knowledge and promote this unique river ecosystem as a European heritage. Summary of Activity Approximately 70 participants were engaged in three days of field camp: biodiversity experts, student volunteers, journalists, celebrities and mayors of municipalities within the Vjosa basin (Tepelena, Qesarati, Memaliaj). -

1 Annual Report of Butterfly Monitoring 2019-2020 Filipa Bragança Since 2019 A Rocha is doing a butterfly monitoring in 2 transects around Cruzinha, in Ria de Alvor Nature 2000 (see Fig. 1). The data collected is also used in the ABLE project – Assessing Butterflies in Europe. The survey is done weekly under the appropriated weather conditions (no rain, no strong wing, and temperatures above 130 C). Butterfly Monitoring Report 2019-2020 2 Fig. 1- Map of transects I and II A total of 13 surveys were made between June and November 2019. We have counted 137 individuals from 4 different Families: Papilionidae, Pieridae, Nymphalidae and Lycaenidae and identified 14 different species. Some species are hard to identify when flying and sometimes is just possible to identify the Family or Genus (E.g. Pieridae or Pieris sp.) (Table 1).
