This thesis examines the development from the novel perspective of medievalism—the study of the Middle Ages as an imaginative construct in western society after their actual demise. It offers a selection of the best known neo-Gothic artifacts in the city, describes the technological innovations which distinguish them from the medievalist architecture of the nineteenth century, and shows the motivation for their creation. The significance of the California Arts and Crafts movement is explained, and profiles are offered of the two leading medievalist architects of the period, Bernard Maybeck and Julia Morgan.

GRACE CHURCH SCHOOL New York, New York HEAD OF SCHOOL Start Date: July 2022 gcschool.org Mission Statement Grace Church School aims to establish in its students firmly rooted confidence in themselves and their abilities. Because we believe that school experience sets the foundation for lifelong intellectual and social growth, we strive to develop in each student mental keenness, physical confidence, pleasure in learning, and the skills basic to understanding one’s self and the world. Our structured curriculum, enriched with broad opportunities for creative expression, assumes as fundamental the mastery of a specific range of academic skills, especially the ability to express one’s own ideas and to appraise those of others. Yet the educational goals of the school are broader than intellectual and social development. We nurture in our students a steady, affectionate trust in themselves and their world, made resilient by the interaction of different ethnic, religious, and socio-economic influences. We strive to help each student develop an active ethical consciousness, supported by close acquaintance with Judeo- Christian beliefs and enhanced by the beauty and faith inherent in Grace Church. We encourage a mutually supportive relationship between family and school. We aim to have students graduate from Grace Church School with a strong sense of self, able to think clearly, function well academically, and embrace coming challenges with confidence. OVERVIEW For over a century, Grace Church School has been enriching its students’ lives by weaving tenets of the Episcopal school tradition—social justice, community engagement, ethics, and personal integrity—into a rigorous, thoughtfully evolved curriculum. Families who join Grace do so because the school offers an outstanding academic experience within an inclusive, diverse, and accepting community.

Emlen Urban The City of Lancaster, Pennsylvania – 1 – To Build Strong and Substantial Introduction In A History of Lancaster County (1924), historian H.M.J. Klein wrote of architect C. Emlen Urban: “Few men of Lancaster County can point to a finer array of useful and beautiful work than can Cassius Emlen Urban, of the City of Lancaster, whose skilled hand and artistic talent mean much to the civic dignity of this and other municipalities.” Over the span of a 45-year career in Lancaster, Urban’s designs included major commercial and public buildings, churches, hotels, schools, industrial buildings and private residences. His designs were stylistically eclectic, reflecting the influence of Queen Anne, French Renaissance, Gothic Revival, Beaux Arts and Colonial Revival periods. Although he spent his entire professional career living within the City of Lancaster, his designs were informed by knowledge of classical and historical architecture as well as work being produced by his contemporaries in larger cities such as Philadelphia and New York.

The Celebration and Blessing of a Marriage Grace Church Brooklyn Heights Wedding Information Booklet Grace Church Brooklyn Heights 254 Hicks Street Brooklyn, New York 11201 718.624.1850 www.gracebrooklyn.org CONGRATULATIONS Congratulations on your engagement. We pray that God will bless your life together and make your love a sign of hope and joy to the world. Thank you for your interest in celebrating your wedding at Grace Church. This booklet is designed to assist you in preparing for the celebration and blessing of your marriage in the Church. Planning for a marriage includes not only scheduling and countless details, but also a set of convictions about marriage, and what those convictions mean in the lives of two people. The following paragraphs describe the convictions Christians have about marriage and the procedures for marriage that are customary at Grace Church. Please read this booklet carefully. It will answer many questions and serve as a reliable aide in your understanding of, and preparation for, marriage at Grace Church. Who May Be Married In This Church? Grace Church is committed to marriage equality for all. Couples often seek to be married in the Church because it provides an attractive, traditional setting. However, sometimes the same couples have little or no relationship to the life of the Church. At Grace Church we anticipate working with couples who seriously seek to make Christ and the Church a part of their marriage relationship. We urge all couples who are contemplating marriage to worship at Grace Church and share in the life of the congregation.
