If you are following this tutorial on a TI-84 calculator you may have Mathprint installed. Turn Mathrprint off if you want to follow the keystrokes given in the answers. You can turn Mathprint off by going to [MODE] and pressing the [UP ARROW] key until MATHPRINT is highlighted. Use the [RIGHT ARROW] key so that CLASSIC is highlighted instead and press [ENTER]. Sage is the popular mathematical software which was released in 2005. This software has efficient features to adapt to the internet, and it can describe most mathematical problems: for example, problems within algebra, calculus, linear algebra, combinatorics and numerical mathematics. Nowadays, there are more mobile devices than personal computers all over the world. Furthermore, the most sophisticated Smartphones have almost the same processing power as personal computers and can connect to the internet easily. For example, we can connect from a mobile phone to any Sage server through the internet. We have developed our mobile infrastructure of Sage in the mobile-learning environment and have utilized it in our teaching of mathematics with Smartphones (Ko et al., 2009; Lee & Kim, 2009; Lee et al., 2001). In this paper, we introduce how to develop our Mobile Sage environment and features of Sage Graphers that have been developed using it (http://matrix.skku.ac.kr/mobile-sage-g/sage-grapher.html).     Learning with graphing calculator (GC): GC as a cognitive tool Nataliya Reznichenko February 2007 Learning with Graphing Calculator: A Literature Review 1 Abstract This paper focuses on using technology to support mathematics instruction. Technologies such as computers and calculators are widely used in the teaching of mathematics. The educators advocate the use of these tools to reduce tiresome computations and tasks so that class time can be more effectively used for learning mathematics. The purpose of this review is twofold: (1) to explore the use of computer and calculator as tools for the mathematics teaching and (2) to analyze their effects on the students’ achievement in algebra and calculus. This review of literature from 1990-2006 also addresses the implication of curriculum in an age of computer algebra systems. Learning with Graphing Calculator: A Literature Review 2 Introduction In the digital age, all aspects of life, especially in education, should adapt to progressive technologies. As envisioned by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM, 2000), “electronic technologies [ET]--calculators and computers”--has taken its place in almost all classrooms in schools and colleges across the country (p. 24). Over the past 25 years, researchers have been studying the effectiveness of ET in different areas of education. The purpose of this review is twofold: (1) to explore the use of computer and calculator as tools for the mathematics teaching and (2) to analyze their effects on the students’ achievement in algebra and calculus. In this paper, the literature from 1990 to 2006 is reviewed. The integration of ET into a traditional educational system and the purpose and objective of the studies in different educational settings is examined.

    FAQ BBC micro:bit connectivity with TI-Nspire™ CX II-T family products Overview In February 2021, version 5.3 calculator operating system (OS) and desktop software updates were released for TI-Nspire™ CX II-T family products. This update introduces OS and software enhancements that enable USB communication with a third-party microcontroller board called the BBC micro:bit. With this update, Python programming with the micro:bit board can be enabled by a module that is available for download from the Texas Instruments (TI) website and installed on the TI-Nspire™ CX II-T graphing calculator and software. What is BBC micro:bit? The BBC micro:bit is a pocket-sized microcontroller board that helps students learn how software and hardware work together. Per their site: “It has an LED light display, buttons, sensors and many input/output features that, when programmed, let it interact with you and your world.” (Front) (Back) (Battery) Globally, there are over four million micro:bit boards distributed across 60 countries with many hardware, content and education partners. While the original micro:bit board is pictured above, there was a new micro:bit version 2, or V2, introduced and made available in November 2020. Key updates with the V2 board include a built-in speaker, a built-in microphone, a capacitive touch sensor, and more memory on board.     Using a Graphing Calculator to Teach Probability and Statistics By Michael R. Lloyd Associate Professor of Mathematics Abstract This paper explains how I use TI graphing calculators to teach probability and statistics. Examples of their capability and a list of resources I have developed are included. Introduction This paper is essentially the one-hour talk that I delivered at the Arkansas Conference on Teaching in Little Rock in November 1999. Starting spring 2000, the Henderson Mathematics and Computer Science Department will have a computer classroom, and I plan utilize it to teach our introductory statistics course, Statistical Methods. I plan on using the software SPSS and Maple instead of graphing calculators. I wanted to put my thoughts on paper about how I utilize graphing calculators in my probability and statistics classes, and the course materials I have developed for the past six years while it is fresh in my mind. For the high school teacher reading this paper, I will answer any questions you have via email ([email protected]), and I can fax you any handouts I have developed. AP statistics teachers are probably aware that is acceptable to use all of the TI graphing calculators, even if they have been loaded with programs, except the TI-92 on the APSTAT exam because of its QWERTY keyboard. Which calculator should the student use? On the syllabus for the class, I suggest that the student buy a TI-83+ or a TI-86 if they do not already own a graphing calculator. The built-in statistics functions on the TI-83+ and TI-86 are very similar, so students with either usually have no difficulty following in class when I use the viewscreen.
