My father's grandfather on his mother's side was Martin Moran. He came to this coun­ try right about the time of the Civil War and settled down on Poland Avenue along the old canal, which is now part of the Republic Iron and Steel. My grandfather Carney came to this country around 1870 and had my great-grandfather's name. My grandfather Carney was born in Ireland, but learned the puddling trade in t , Manchester, England. At that time, this was a great center of puddling in America. My grandfather, some­ how, had my great-grandfather's name because they came from the same county and area, County Mayo in Ireland.

MSVC members were in attendance for both events. The Reading of the Names at YSU’s Veterans Plaza, which took place at 10:30 a.m. The Plaza is located in front of Beeghly Center, where MSVC member Rick Williams led a reading of the names of YSU and Youngstown Col- lege alumni killed in action or the line of duty. East High School Cadet Javier Rodriguez, TCTC Cadet Hannah Wareham, Sixty-seven veterans from World War II to the YSU Cadet Derek Kozlowski, 2LT Zachery Gibson and 2LT Zachary Szewczyk present day were remembered. After the read- ing, Tri-State Detachment 494 of the Marine Cadets Shine at Recognition Dinner Corps League fired a twenty-one gun salute by CDR David Di Tallo and YSU Dana School of Music trumpeter High school and college cadets from northeast Ohio’s JROTC and Justin Randall played TAPS.
