Zeitschr. 2021, 69: 7-57, Gießen ISSN 0340-4498 Zur Biologie und Ökologie von Stenoria analis Schaum, 1859 (Coleoptera: Meloidae) – Ergebnisse einer fünfjährigen Untersuchung des Seidenbienen- Ölkäfers im Botanischen Garten Gießen HANS BAHMER*) UND JOHANNES LÜCKMANN**) Abstract The family of the blister beetles (Coleoptera: Meloidae) is a relatively small group, which consists of 18 species in Germany and is characterised by its parasitic life history. Among them, the family includes the ivy bee blister beetle, Stenoria analis Schaum, 1859, which was recorded in West Germany for the first time in 2013 and which develops in the nest of the ivy mining bee, Colletes hederae Schmidt & Westrich, 1993. The beetle was first detected in the botanical garden Gießen in 2016, his host three years before. To investigate the reproductive biology of the beetle and the host finding strategy of the larvae (triungulins), the botanical garden was haunted daily between 2016 until 2020. No differences were found for the phenological occurrence of the male and female beetles. During their activity period the females produce clutches of at least 117 to 335 eggs, which were deposited e. g. on leaves, faded or still closed flower heads as well as on grasses. Hatching of the triungulins was observed after 15 to 24 days. A few days later, the larvae aggregate to clusters, which may rope down at thready like structures, which were itself made of excretions by the abdominal end of the larvae. These clusters seem to play a central role in the host finding of the triungulins, probably lure male bees by optic and/or chemical mimicry and thus induce a contact (pseudocopulation). -

Stenoria osellai sp. nov. from northern Pakistan, Hycleus pakistanus sp. nov. from Baluchistan, and Meloe (Micromeloe) pintoi sp. nov. from Indian Kashmir are described. Three genera, namely Stenoria, Psalydolytta, and Rhampholyssa, and several species belonging to both subfamilies Nemognathinae and Meloinae, are recorded for the first time from these countries, whereas the genera Cerocoma and Glasunovia, previously cited, are excluded. Several new faunistic records are also introduced. The virtually unknown genus Xanthabris Kaszab (tribe Mylabrini) is recorded for the first time since its description, and several of its previously undescribed morphological characters are discussed and figured. Three Oriental species previously described in other genera are referred to the genusZonitoschema : Z. melanarthra comb. nov., Z. straminea comb. nov., and Z. angustithorax comb. nov. Several previous erroneous records from Pakistan are noted and a preliminary zoogeogeographic analysis of blister beetles of this region is proposed. -

In September 2007 the author observed in Loire-Atlantique (France) Stenoria analis SCHAUM during the mating, the egg-laying, the hatching of the triungulins (first instar larvae of the blister beetle). Pictures taken on the site of observations show how the triungulins cling to the males of Colletes hederae SCHMIDT & WESTRICH to reach the nest of their host bees where the larvae will complete their life cycle. Résumé. En septembre 2007 l’auteur a observé en Loire-Atlantique (France) Stenoria analis SCHAUM lors de l’accouplement, la ponte et la naissance des triongulins (premier stade larvaire du méloïdé). Des photos prises sur le site montrent comment les triongulins s’agrippent aux mâles de Colletes hederae SCHMIDT & WESTRICH afin de rejoindre le nid de leurs abeilles hôtes où les larves pourront poursuivre leur cycle de développement. The present review discussed several aspects in the behavioral ecology of Meloidae. The sexual behavior phases varied among meloid species including searching for mate, approaching and some physical contacts ending in mating. Cantharidin usually be employed as a nuptial gift in the courtship. Courtship may be repeated and the assortative mating may be taken place. Mate-guarding was, also, recorded for certain species. The present work comprehensively reviewed, also, the feeding tactics, defensive measures and cleaning antennae among the non-sexual behavioral patterns of Meloidae. An intensive attention was paid to the phoresy behavior focusing on triungulin structural adaptation for phoresy, scenarios of phoresy and phoresy as dispersal way as well as a taxonomic tool. The uses of sexual and egg-laying behavior in the systematics of Meloidae had been presented. Key words: Courtship, nuptial gift, cantharidin, oviposition, phoresy, defensive behaviour, cleaning behaviour, physiology. McNeil Abstract: Chemical mimicry is an essential part of certain interspecific interactions, where the outcome for both species may depend on the degree to which the original signals are mimicked. In this review, we discuss a number of specific cases relating to pollination and obtaining nutrient resources that we believe exemplify recent advances in our understand- ing of chemical mimicry. Subsequently, we suggest avenues for future ecological and chemical research that should allow us to gain further insight into the evolution of chemical mimicry. Re´sume´ : Le mime´tisme chimique est une composante essentielle de certaines interactions entre les espe`ces, dans lesquel- les l’issue pour les deux espe`ces peut de´pendre du degre´ de mime´tisme des signaux d’origine.
