Please see the attached and linked files pertaining to State Band Clinic. The Student List shows all students accepted to come to Natchez, including both the all-state concert band and clinic students. At the end of this file you will also find an All State Concert Band list that is in chair order.

Please note that due to many new schools opting to bring students to clinic, we are over capacity; therefore, there will be no substitutions when canceling. Please make your students aware of their acceptance as soon as you see them and make sure they will be able to attend (this is an ACT date). Please contact Lane Thompson through email [email protected] for any cancellations as soon as you know them. You will have until Friday, December 4th to make any cancellations without having to pay for that student. After Dec. 4th, you will be responsible for paying for that student.

You can still send student fees for clinic to Lane Thompson. The cost is $110 per student and $50 per student for Wednesday night (if you are coming down on Wednesday); however, if you cannot send payment before Dec. 4th, we would rather you wait and pay at clinic registration so fees don't get caught in the mail.

Please let Lane Thompson – [email protected] know asap if there is anything wrong with the list. Check for misspellings, wrong gender, etc. This list was concocted after midnight in a hotel room with the exec board so there might be mistakes. Email me for any changes in this regard.

As a reminder, please submit the Wednesday night form to Mr. and Mrs. Rigdon if you are planning on staying Wednesday night. Mr. and Mrs. Rigdon do an awesome job of having things organized for your arrival. We want to make sure that we have enough rooms reserved on Wednesday for your students, so please get this form to them by Dec. 4th at the latest.

Enclosed is all pertinent information regarding State Band Clinic planned for Dec. 9-12, 2015 at the Natchez Convention Center. Please read all items carefully, and respond accordingly.

Failure to follow any of the rules set forth here and/or in the clinic program book, including curfew and concert attendance, will result in dismissal from the clinic and the school’s exclusion from future clinic participation.

The final clinic list will be made available following the All-State Band Auditions November 21. All-State Band results as well as the Clinic Band Roster will be posted on the MBA website (www.msbandmasters.com).

Complete Clinic Fee Form (attached): Fees are $110 per student for the Clinic on Thursday-Saturday. If you are coming Wednesday night the Wednesday Night Fee is an additional $50 per student. Most schools will have at least 2 high school students and 1 junior high student attending. If you have additional students to make the All-State Band, those fees will be due at registration. GENERAL INFORMATION

-All activities will be held at the Natchez Convention Center, Natchez Grand Hotel, and the Natchez City Auditorium.

- Registration for clinic students and directors will be both Wednesday December 9 from 3:00PM-10:00PM and Thursday December 10 from 8:00AM-12:00PM, at the Natchez Convention Center. All-State students must register Wednesday night. Clinic students arriving on Wednesday will be able to complete registration, pick up their packets, and be issued rooms. College displays will be set up in the lobby both Wednesday and Thursday so that students may visit with them before they register. Students will be issued a signature card for the college directors to sign; filled cards will be eligible for a $50 drawing per band.

Please call Mr./Mrs. Rigdon at 601-433-8980 to notify of late arrival.

- Each director is responsible for registering his/her own students. Another director may not register your students.

- Substitutions are not permitted without permission from Lane Thompson. Cancellations should be reported to Mr. Thompson up to December 4.

- No fees will be refunded for cancellations made after December 4, 2015. - Schools are responsible for all fees, and cancelled Wednesday night rooms after Dec. 4. - All Wednesday night rooms MUST be paid when you arrive.

- Please check the spelling of your students’ names and report errors to Lane Thompson as soon as the clinic list is published.

- Students will be housed at the Natchez Grand, adjacent to the Convention Center. Students must be in their rooms by curfew. Directors PLEASE adhere to this rule.

- Directors are to make their own room reservations. Tell the hotel you are with the MBA.

- The All-State Concert Band concert will be held on Friday night, December 11th in the Natchez City Auditorium. The All-State Band will need concert black attire. The final clinic concert will be held at the Convention Center Saturday Dec. 12, 2015 beginning at 11:00AM. Clinic Students will need uniforms for the concert.

- All students will be expected to be in attendance at all clinic events and rehearsals.

Requirements: WINDS/MALLETS: Concert A, D, G, C, F, B flat, E flat, A flat, D flat, G flat major scales, chromatic scale and sight reading.

*Every student will be asked two scales and chromatic from the list of scales above. All scales and chromatic must be by memory.

PERCUSSION: (rudiments) Long roll, 5-stroke roll, 9-stroke roll, Single Paradiddle, Flam, Flam Accent, Flam Taps, Flam Drag, Paradiddle-diddle, Triple Ratamacue and sight reading. Percussion will audition as listed on the clinic list; snare or mallets, but not both.

*Each student will receive thirty seconds to look over sight reading.

*We will not supply brass, woodwind, or snare drums for tryouts. This includes reeds and sticks as well. A mallet keyboard instrument will be in the audition room. You may still bring your own.

Those directors who have been contacted to judge auditions should plan to be available at the above audition times.

STUDENT INFORMATION

1. Each student must bring a MUSIC STAND. Directors need to ensure that this happens.

2. Uniforms are needed for the final concert.

3. Students will provide their own wind instruments and appropriate accessories including mutes. Mallet instruments, timpani, and bass drum will be provided.

4. Percussionists should bring their own implements: concert snare drum AND concert sticks; timpani mallets, keyboard mallets, suspended cymbal mallets and a bass drum mallet.

5. Students are responsible for their own meals.

6. Students should consider the importance of this event and dress accordingly.

DIRECTOR INFORMATION

1. Displays will be in the Natchez Convention Center and will open Thursday morning. You are encouraged to visit the display area; this is an incredible resource, and is an integral part of clinic.

2. CEU’s will be offered by Northeast Community College. Directors must register after business meeting on Friday in order to receive CEU’s.

3. Directors must ensure that their students have an up-to-date medical release form. The Mississippi Bandmasters Association, Incorporated, assumes no responsibility for individual students.

4. The Rigdons should be notified of any special medical conditions students may have.

5. Directors are responsible for supervision of their students and may not leave students under supervision of parents.

6. Directors are required to wear name tags for admittance to clinic functions.

Directors, again, are responsible for their own reservations.

CLINIC FEE FORM

A clinic fee of $110 per student is due upon arrival to clinic. If you are coming Wednesday night the Wednesday Night Fee is an additional $50 per student. If a school has more than 2 High School students attending, Directors will be asked to show proof that the payment process has been initiated with their schools for the additional students.
