Eastcote Support of Hockey in Brazil

Having just got back from 35 degree heat, and drinking caipirinhas on Copacabana beach, I return to the freezing cold.

On behalf of the Deodoro Hockey Club in Rio de Janeiro and AABB Canoas, Rio Grande do Sul, I would like to thank those who donated sticks and balls to help promote the game in Brazil in particular our Chairman, Rob Riddleston, and Zahid and Mike Ransome for the sticks.

The 2016 Olympic legacy has left 4 full size Olympic water based hockey pitches all situated in Rio de

Janeiro. There are no other astro turf pitches in this huge country. The game is still relatively unknown and participation is low unlike their successful neighbours in Argentina. One of the reasons being down to economic inequality and the affordability of equipment. The donation of the hockey equipment to a small but enthusiastic and growing community of players to these Clubs was very welcome. See attached photos. They are very appreciative of any s upport to promote our wonderful game there.

If there any other players or ex -players no matter what ages who have hockey equipment that they are no longer using or need then I would be happy to receive them to donate to these clubs.

Naturally, to save on shipping costs I have to use my baggage allowance to deliver them but there again, one only needs a few pairs of shorts and Havaianas flip flops when you're out there!

Saturday 24th February Selwyn Carrasco Lost 0 - 1

If it weren’t for Lil it probably would’ve been 10 nil!!!

We started slow,

And weren’t on our toes.

They came at us quick

Looking rather slick.

The game went on,

Felt like ping pong.

The ball came our way

But we gave it away.

We upped our tempo,

And started to flow.

Decisions were disputed,

But we had to stay muted.

In went their goal....

THE END!

Eastcote U14 Girls vs Sunbury and Walton U14 Girls Sapphires Away at St Paul's College Results: 13-0

Another fabulous performance by the U14 girls. On a bright and sunny but cold afternoon the girls outshone the weather and outclassed their opposition. From the first whistle they piled on the pressure, playing structured hockey, moving the ball around well and attacking down both flanks. Catriona and Bella dominated in midfield making strong forward runs and linking up well with Eshana, Samantha and Tash.

Goals came rapidly through intricate passing in the D and clinical finishing in front of the goal. The girls have developed strong awareness of where each other is and positional play with excellent passing by Abigail, Anna and Hannah. It was not all one-way traffic and at times the team needed to defend against some incisive attacking play by the opposition. Brave and determined tackling by Molly, Evie and Bella meant that Eastcote won many of the 50-50 tackles. Balerki and Katie chased hard all game, marking their players and made some excellent interceptions through determined tracking back. Shauna was called into action and defended her goal well, closing down players as they came into her D and working well with her defenders.

An impressive team performance with every player making an excellent contribution. Man of the match was Eshana and goal scorers were Catriona 4, Bella 1, Sam 1, Tash 3 & Eshana 4.

The EastcoNet 17 3rd March 2018 Boys Under 12s Ashford Tournament: We copied our Olympic sliders and won Gold and Bronze at the event

Ashford organised a great tournament played out in lovely sunshine between Eastcote, Ashford, and Spencer.

Our boys had been watching our lady sliders the day before in the Luge and decided to copy their winning ways. The final saw a playoff between Spencer A and Eastcote Scorpions and the 3rd/4th place was between Spencer Bs and Eastcote Jaguars. The Jaguars cruised to the bronze medal with a 4-0 win. They had recovered well from a big defeat to Spencer As in their first match to beat all the other opposition and finish second in their group. They lost to the Scorpions in an all Eastcote semi final but were really pleased with 3rd place.

The Scorpions had beaten all in their way to get to the final and in a very close fought match benefitted from some great saves from an on-loan keeper from.....Spencer! It finished 0-0 and so went to penalty shuffles. Our borrowed keeper again stepped up with 2 great saves but Max and Krish did us proud and planted both their shots.

A very encouraging performance from both our teams and lots of fun had by all.

Eastcote U16 Boys vs OMT Drew 1-1

Before reporting on the match I would first like to:

A) Thank everybody for being there on time with enough time to properly warm up – For only the first time this season! B) Apologise for f***ing up a one on one with the goalkeeper. Helpful Hint – Don’t try and lob a goalie who’s 6ft tall!

Onto the game….

OMT started well and it took a disciplined and resolute defence (Including U14’s Ben who had a great game) to stop them from scoring and to everyone's surprise we took the lead from a short corner after a good drag flick from Tomilade. Shortly after OMT scored a well worked team goal to deservedly bring the game level and mean that at half time, it was still anybody’s game.

The second half was a repeat of the first as we struggled to keep the ball and spent a lot of the game defending but OMT’s couldn’t fashion an opening, unlike us who were using the ball very effectively and creating chances. Despite our chances there were no more goals.

Overall it was probably a fair result as the oppo had most of the ball but we had most of the chances. Well done to Ben and Giles who stepped up from the U14’s and both had solid games.
