    CONSPIRACY THEORIES A WORKSHOP WITH TAMMO RIST FOR EINAR GRANUM KUNSTFAGSKOLE Introduction Conspiracy theories receive enormous attention not only after 9/11. They represent mystery and thrill and seem to satisfy a basal need for comprehensive explanations of complex issues ruling the way of our lives. They are a sort of back-up reality and symbolize a mental anchor for the people in a complex world. What is the workshop about? The idea of the workshop is to introduce a fictitious parallel world. Unlike films, video-games or literature, a conspiracy theory claims to be real – it is a subjective vision of a reality. Seen from this perspective, a conspiracy theory approximates the realm of art, which also represents another, or parallel version of reality. To learn, reflect and process these theories into artworks, means to juggle a fragile and at the same time radical state of reality. The conspiracy theory serves as a converter to mystify the arts. Schedules The workshop is applied for one week (27 hours). Depending on the school’s schedule, I suggest a two-week time span. The workshop contains theoretical, technical and practical parts as well as individual- and group- work and a final presentation. The goal The students are supposed to express and defend their subjectivity and personal interpretation of the world. "You have to have something to say to the world." Unfortunately all too often the opposite is the case, students tend to avoid conflict. The goal of this workshop is to create an arguable (and provoking) artistic statement that creates controversial and conflict (in a positive sense) within the class.

  • How Do I Know Jesus Resurrection Is True?
    How do I know Jesus resurrection is true? The cornerstone of the Christian faith is the resurrection of Christ. It is important for the Christian to be familiar with the theories against and the evidence for the resurrection. Here are some of the theories against, followed by evidence for the resurrection of Christ: A. The Swoon Theory- "He didn't die, He fainted and the dampness of the tomb resuscitated Him." Nine pieces of evidence refute the swoon theory: (1) Jesus could not have survived crucifixion. Roman procedures were very careful to eliminate that possibility. Roman law even laid the death penalty on any soldier who let a capital prisoner escape in any way, including bungling a crucifixion. It was never done. (2) The fact that the Roman soldier did not break Jesus' legs, as he did to the other two crucified criminals (Jn 19:31-33), means that the soldier was sure Jesus was dead. Breaking the legs hastened the death so that the corpse could be taken down before the Sabbath (v. 31). (3) John, an eyewitness, certified that he saw blood and water come from Jesus' pierced heart (Jn 19:34-35). This shows that Jesus' lungs had collapsed and he had died of asphyxiation. Any medical expert can vouch for this. (4) The body was totally encased in winding sheets and entombed (Jn 19:38-42). (5) The post-resurrection appearances convinced the disciples, even "doubting Thomas," that Jesus was gloriously alive (Jn 20:19-29). It is psychologically impossible for the disciples to have been so transformed and confident if Jesus had merely struggled out of a swoon, badly in need of a doctor.

His body may have failed him in 1977, but today his spirit, his image, and his myths do more than live on: they flourish, they thrive, they multiply." Why is Elvis Presley so ubiquitous a presence in US culture? Why does he continue to enjoy a cultural prominence that would be the envy of the most heavily publicized living celebrities? In Elvis after Elvis, Gilbert Rodman traces Elvis Presley's myriad manifestations in contemporary popular and not-so-popular culture. He asks why Elvis continues to defy our expectations of how dead stars are supposed to behave: Elvis not only refuses to go away, he keeps showing up in places where he seemingly does not belong. Rodman draws upon an extensive and eclectic body of Elvis "sightings," from Elvis's appearances at the heart of the 1992 presidential campaign to the debate over his worthiness as a subject for a postage stamp, and from Elvis's central role in furious debates about racism and the appropriation of African-American music to the world of Elvis impersonators and the importance of Graceland as a place of pilgrimage for Elvis fans and followers. Rodman shows how Elvis has become inseparable from many of the defining myths of US culture, enmeshed with the American Dream and the very idea of the "United States," caught up in debates about race, gender, and sexuality, and in the wars over what constitutes a national culture.
