Vergelijkt men dit Hulpwoordenboek met vroegere uitgaven van den schrijver van denzelfden aard, met Veth's ‘Uit Oost en West’, en met hetgeen in de Encyclopaedie van Nederlandsch-Indië, enz., te vinden is, dan ziet men reeds op den eersten blik, hoeveel rijker de hier verzamelde stof is. Hiervoor verdient de heer Prick van Wely den dank van alle belangstellenden, maar nog veel meer voor de groote moeite die hij zich gegeven heeft voor de juiste vertolking der woorden. Hiervoor had hij slechts over uiterst weinig hulpmiddelen te beschikken en kon alleen zijn groote belezenheid hem hulp verschaffen, waar andere bronnen hem in den steek lieten. Ieder, die het Hulpwoordenboek ter hand neemt, zal erkennen dat de schrijver geen moeite ontzien heeft om zijne taak nauwgezet te volbrengen.
