LITTLE 28 School Lane, Swavesey, Cambridgeshire CB4 5RL AND DAVID LEVELL 5 Westgate Hill, Pembroke, Pembrokeshire, Wales, SA71 4LB ABSTRACT The rook population of southern Pembrokeshire was surveyed using nest counts during two breeding seasons, ten years apart (1986 and 1996). The results were compared over the study period, and analysed with reference to published data for this and other regions. The rookeries were non-randomly distributed, mainly on mixed farmland with limestone soils. Changes in the numbers of rook nests through time were variable within the study area, ranging from nest increases of over 30% in the south-west (Dale, Angle and Castlemartin), to decreases of 47% in the south-east of the county. The average size of rookeries was stable in the south, increased in the west, and decreased in the east. The overall size distribution of rookeries did not alter much between 1986 and 1996, and was similar to that seen in Pembrokeshire in 1975. The number of individual rookeries decreased by as much as 53%, except on the Castlemartin peninsula where an increase of 38% was noted. Overall, there was a slight decrease in total rook nest numbers of about 7% between the two south Pembrokeshire surveys. In contrast, at the national (UK) level, there were estimated increases of about 7% between 1975 and 1980. Subsequent national increases ranging from 5% to 14% were suggested by a combination of results of the Common Birds Census (CBC) and the Breeding Bird Survey (BBS), over the period 1986-1998.

    IRONMAN WALES ROAD ACCESS INFORMATION – SUNDAY 9th SEPTEMBER 2018 TENBY, PENALLY, LYDSTEP, LAMPHEY, ST PETROX, CASTLEMARTIN, ANGLE, PEMBROKE, REDBERTH, SAGESTON, CAREW, NEW HEDGES Temporary road closures will be in place on IRONMAN Wales race day (Sunday 9 September) to ensure the safety of athletes and the public. These legal road closures are implemented under the Road Traffic Regulation (Special Events) Act 1994, and apply to all vehicles and bikes that are not involved in the event. Please use this information to plan your journey in advance, and so minimise the inconvenience to your travel on race day. • Please avoid parking on any section of the bike course for safety reasons. • Pedestrians can cross the course at any time when safe to do so. • Essential access for carers will be facilitated. Please contact [email protected] as early as possible. • There are NO RESTRICTIONS at any time to any of the emergency services • DETOUR ADVICE: The A477, A40 and A4076 are unaffected by the road closures. CLOSURES AREA DETAILS TIMES North Beach Car Park – Access via the A478 until 10:00 on Sunday 9th September. The car park will be locked down from 11:00 – 00:30 on Monday the 10th September. South Beach Car Park – Access via Marsh Road (A4139) and use the one-way system from Greenhill Road to South Beach. Exit will be using Upper Park Road/Park Road and Heywood Lane (B4318) throughout the day. SUNDAY 9TH Tenby Multi-storey Car Park – There will be no access to the car park between 07:00 – 10:15 as Park TENBY SEPTEMBER Road is closed.

MATTERS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES (a) Minute 83(a) – Junction of Commercial Row/Albion Square/ Ferry Terminal Road The Town Clerk reported that a letter had been received from Pembrokeshire County Council regarding the repainting of road markings at several locations in the Town. Instructions had been issued to Engineering Works Section to repaint junction markings on many areas of the Town. RESOLVED – That Pembrokeshire County Council be requested to reinstate the red asphalting in the Market vicinity of the Town in the interest of public safety. 112 (b) Minute 83(d) – Twinning Grant – Malta Visit – September, 2004 The Mayor reported that he had attended a Joint Twinning Meeting in Pembroke earlier in the day at which the Mayor of Pembroke, Malta had been present.
