Gordon McVie

Gordon McVie MD, currently Director of Cancer Intelligence, providing advisory services to the media, patients, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies as well as founding editor and publisher of ecancermedicalscience, is clinical consultant of the Institute of Molecular Oncology (IFOM) and of the Cancer Studies of the Kings College.

Author of over 300 peer-reviewed papers and editorials as well as contributing to numerous books, he currently serves on several committees including the American Association for and the American Society of Clinical Oncology. He also serves on the boards of the National Cancer Institutes of France, Italy and the Netherlands. In the UK, he has been on the boards of cancer institutes in , Manchester and London. McVie is also Senior Consultant at the European Institute of Oncology, Visiting Professor at Glasgow University, in Scotland, and Honorary Consultant in Medical Oncology at the Welsh Cancer Institute, Cardiff, Wales.

PhDs in science and medicine at Edinburgh University, he was appointed Foundation Senior Lecturer at the Cancer Research Campaign Unit at the University of Glasgow and during the 1980s, as a Consultant in Oncology at the Antoni van Leewenhoek hospital in Amsterdam and also Clinical Research Director at the National Cancer Institute of the Netherlands. From this position he helped to establish the drug development office of the European Organisation for Treatment and Research into Cancer (EORTC) whose was President setting up the present Drug Development Group in Brussels, and with NCI support, the European New Drug Development Network. He contributed to build the Cancer Trials Networks in Scotland, Wales, and England, and was a founding member of the National Cancer Research Institute.

From 1996 to 2002 was General Director of Cancer Research UK (CRUK).
