  • Lidar- and AR-Based Monitoring of Evolved Building Façades Upon Zoning Conflicts
sensors Article LiDAR- and AR-Based Monitoring of Evolved Building Façades upon Zoning Conflicts Naai-Jung Shih * and Yi Chen Department of Architecture, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, Taipei 106, Taiwan; [email protected] * Correspondence: [email protected]; Tel.: +886-(2)-27376718 Received: 13 September 2020; Accepted: 25 September 2020; Published: 1 October 2020 Abstract: Zoning conflicts have transformed Old Street fabrics in terms of architectural style and construction material in Lukang, Taiwan. This transformation should be assessed as a contribution to digital cultural sustainability. The objective of this study was to compare the evolved façades resultant from the changes made by the development of architectural history and urban planning. A combination of 3D scan technology and a smartphone augmented reality (AR) app, Augment®, was applied to the situated comparison with direct interaction on-site. The AR application compared 20 façades in the laboratory and 18 façades in four different sites using a flexible interface. The comparisons identified the correlation of evolved façades in real sites in terms of building volumes and components, pedestrian arcades on store fronts, and previous installations. The situated comparisons were facilitated in a field study with real-time adjustments to 3D models and analyses of correlations across details and components. The application of AR was demonstrated to be effective in reinstalling scenes and differentiating diversified compositions of vocabulary in a remote site. Keywords: markerless AR; LiDAR; old street heritage; building façade; architecture style; situated study; smartphone 1. Introduction The Old Street in Lukang is replete with historical buildings (Figure1). Lukang had originally been reconstructed from a harbor before it assumed its current fabric.

  • Chapter 13 Religious Ceremonies
Chapter 13 Religious Ceremonies Taipei City is a typical immigrant metropolis that celebrates an infusion of religious beliefs, cultures, customs and lifestyles brought by different ethnic groups. The year 2007 also witnessed multifarious and colorful ritual galas and religious ceremonies, such as the 2007 Taipei Lantern Festival to complement the last day of the Chinese New Year, the Mid-Autumn Soiree for the Mid-Autumn Festival, the Dalongdong Cultural Fair, the ceremonious Hakka Bag Gung, Three Mountain Kings, and Yi-min Ceremonies, the Baosheng Cultural Festival and the Matsu Cultural Festival of Northern Taiwan that are rich with religious and cultural elements, the aboriginal cultural festivals and the exotic immigrant cultural events. Apart from these activities, the City Government followed out a myriad of innovative ritual measures that broke away from traditional elements in 2007. The city of Taipei is encouraging the promotion of new cultural elements and religious beliefs, and transforming these new energies into a unique Taipei cultural tapestry. 11-19.indd 197 2008/7/1 12:54:19 PM 198 Taiwan is comprised of diverse cultural elements; it is a place where multiple ethnic groups coexist harmoniously to form a land of amazing beauty and magnificence. Taipei City is arguably the place in Taiwan where these cultures most playfully and vigorously vie for attention and the spotlight. A modernized Taipei City not only exudes local folk flavors, but is always ready to embrace new and diverse cultural ideas. The people of modern Taipei not only pass on traditional customs, inspire innovative visions. Part 1 Colorful and Vibrant Ceremonial Gatherings A traditional farming society is characterized by many holidays which have been brought over by immigrants from their ancestral homes to Taiwan.

Crawford, Chair After World War II, Chinese films shot in Taiwan and Hong Kong began to play a significant role constructing and disseminating images of Chinese culture and its urban environments to pan-Chinese regions of the world and beyond. To comprehend the relationship between those Chinese films and their urban settings, particularly in Taipei and Hong Kong, numerous scholars in the field of Chinese cinematic urbanism engaged in analyses of the highly aestheticized spatial representations in the films, as well as on the cultural negotiation of Chineseness within a context of political tension, and the issues arising from the rapid capitalization of Chinese cities. However, from the 1990s, the global popularity of Hollywood movies threatened the film industry both in Taiwan and Hong Kong. Concurrently, Mainland China rose in stature to supplant Taiwan and Hong Kong as the seat of political, economic, and cultural “Chineseness”. To respond to these changes, film industry executives in Taiwan and Hong Kong began to seek new ways to survive, sparking a process in which the relationship between cities and the film industries grew more complex.

  • L'educazione a Taiwan Prima Del 1895 È Estremamente Complessa
    Corso di Laurea in Lingue e Istituzioni Economiche e Giuridiche dell’Asia e dell’Africa mediterranea Prova finale di Laurea L’educazione a Taiwan 1683-1945 Relatore Ch.ma Prof.ssa Laura De Giorgi Correlatore: Ch.ma Prof.ssa Rosa Caroli Laureando Sara Ballero Matricola 831099 Anno Accademico 2011 / 2012 摘要 本论文探讨由 1624 年荷兰统治时期至 1945 年第二次世界大战结束后日本无条 件投降这三百多年的在台湾教育政策的变化。
