******SHARE THE TIMES OF YOUR LIFE*****

We want to celebrate with you as you have those “Proud” moments in your life! If you would like to share with everyone some of those moments that are occurring (i.e.; special recognitions or awards, anniversaries, weddings, new babies in the family) please contact Chris by the 15th of each month to submit your info or announcement. OUR NEW BUS IS HERE SO LET’S GO! WE’RE TAKING A TRIP ON THURSDAY, OCTOBER. 17TH TO WHIPPOORWILL WINERY!

Mark your calendars for Thursday, the 17th when we’ll leave at 1:30 p.m. to visit Whippoorwill Vineyards in the rural town of Notasulga, AL. Whippoorwill Vineyards is a family owned and operated farm winery. They are the only winery in Southeast Alabama and their wines are made from Muscadine grapes and Scuppernongs. To satisfy a wide range of palates, they have developed sweet and semi-sweet Scuppernong and Muscadine wines which are light and fruity with intense bouquets. Their semi-dry and dry wines are full bodied and robust similar to typical Pinot Noir and Merlots. Their sweet wine called, Sunset Rose, took 3rd Place at a New York Wine tasting years ago and is among one of their best sellers. They offer a complimentary wine tasting of the many varieties of wines they have! You could even start your Christmas shopping early!

You’ll be able to purchase any of the wines sampled from their stock.

Make sure you sign up for this trip! There must be at least 5 people to go.

Oak Grove Inn Welcomes Back Professional Artist, Craig Carlson!

Last month, Mr. Carlson came and had his first art session, drawing 2 volunteers’ portrait in charcoal. Pictured to the right are the two completed drawings which, afterwards, he gave to them. He will be back again on October 23rd from 3-4:00 p.m. & again will need 2 residents to volunteer who would be able and willing to sit for a 30 minute session. If you are interested, please sign your name on the sheet in your Activity Book. If there are multiple names a drawing will determine the two who he will draw. You can come and the progression of the portrait. It’s amazing! And at the end, what a special gift for you or your family to have! You must be present to win!

Come celebrate!

OAK GROVE INN’S Mark Your FALL-FEST! Calendar for Oct. 25th FALL-FEST will be on Friday, Oct. 25th at 3 p.m. in the IL Dining room. FALL-FEST not only features great entertainment by Henry Pugh but also included is a FUN contest among our residents and staff members.

Remember when “Trick-or-Treating” was a fun and safe time? Well, Oak Grove Inn is making it fun & safe once again! Read below for the details and instructions.

When was the last time you had a group of little children come to trick-or-treat at your door? Well, we have invited a pre-school group (4 & 5 yr. olds) from Aldersgate United Methodist Church Daycare to come over on Halloween morning at 10:00 dressed in their to “Trick- or-Treat” among the AL & IL buildings. Here’s what you need to do....

If you would like to participate, and that means having the children come to YOUR door to trick-or-treat, then please register your name on the participation sign-up sheet (there is one on both the AL & IL sides). You will need to provide your own candy to hand out. *There will be approximately 27 children but will be taking them around in smaller groups.

Just prior to the 31st (Halloween), we will take the names that are on the participation list and for every name listed we will put a pumpkin cut-out (just like the one to the right) on your door. The teachers will then be instructed to only let the children knock on the doors that have this pumpkin on them. If you have any questions, please see Chris or Amanda.

Let’s make Trick-or-Treating a fun & safe experience for these children and we can enjoy all the cuteness that they bring to us. It’s a WIN – WIN for everyone! ***ITS BACK!!!!***

SAVE THE DATE……

Please go ahead and mark your calendar for these special dates for your upcoming Christmas party…………

Assisted Living’s on December 19th 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Independent Living’s on December 20th 6:00-8:00 p.m.

STARTING NOW THROUGH NOVEMBER 22nd

Celebrate this Christmas by helping a child through Operation Christmas Child and the Shoebox Ministry program.

It’s getting that time of year again and time to start thinking about making a child’s Christmas a little brighter. Join us as we welcome Kim Mason, who is with Operation Christmas Child, as she comes to talk about this wonderful organization and an opportunity for you to be apart of it. She’ll be here on Monday, October 8th at 2:30.

We’ll meet in the AL Activity area where she’ll be showing a video.

Let the packing of boxes begin! The Collection Week is Nov. 1 8th-25th! We’ve ordered new boxes for this year’s service project and are hoping that you will want to participate. We still have some unopened toys from last year that can be added to your box gift packing and just add your own items to it. Those that participate will need to decide on whether to pack your box for a girl or a boy and then select an age group, 2-4, 5-9, or 10-14 years of age to make the items more gender and age specific. You can also enclose a personal note or greeting card inside the box. If you have family members that would like to take part it would be a welcomed addition. Just let them know what kind of items from the list they should shop for or stop by the office and pick up a pamphlet.

Those of you who would like to participate can do so in several different ways; 1) If you are unable to go shopping, you might consider giving a one-time monetary gift of which Oak Grove Inn would go and purchase items on your behalf from the suggested items list. 2) If you would like to purchase items yourself you may begin doing so by our current weekly trips to Walmart and by the soon to be added trips (i.e., Dollar Tree, Dollar General) in October & November. If you decide to shop yourself, there is a list of recommended items to shop from and those items NOT to buy (see the list on back of this page). We also have information pamphlets that are available in the office. Also, on one of the pamphlets it mentions to include a $7.00 (or more) donation. Please disregard. It will not be necessary.

***There will be more details in the November newsletter and calendar as to additional opportunities to shop and a date for the packing party so stay tuned! Happy Shopping!
