MAHS Mission: The Mexican American Historical Society of the Midlands MAHS is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) corporation organized to create an awareness of the rich legacy built by the presence of Mexican Americans in the Midlands. MAHSM believes that an awareness of our history identifies us as a people and connects us to the American experience. Dr. Jim Ramirez For 40 years he’s used his experience to give people the tools they need for success. As a Latino, his focus is on kids from his culture, one he has deep ties to. A former Nebraska Hispanic Man of the Year and grand marshall of Omaha’s Cinco de Mayo parade, Ramirez supports his people as advocate, facilitator, community board member and bridge builder – bringing diverse people together to address problems and realize dreams. He worked in all areas of meat packing including management for 14 years while getting his PHD. He counciled many South High students to success and shaped many organizations in the area.     NSAA Activities Medicine Advisory Committee Brad Hoesing, Superintendent and PK-4 Principal at Wausa Public Schools in Wausa, NE. Brad grew up in Coleridge & Laurel, NE graduating from Laurel-Con- cord High School in 2001. He attended Wayne State College, where he played foot- ball and spent time in the fine arts department. While At WSC, he achieved his B.S. in Social Studies Education, a master of arts degree in Education administration, and his ED. Specialist degree in school district Superintendency. He is currently the superintendent and elementary principal at Wausa Public Schools in Wausa, NE, a school he has been employed at since 2006. He and his wife Sheila have been the play production directors at Wausa, winning 11 state championships and a runner-up, while qualifying for state for 14 straight years. Mr. Hoesing has also served on the NSAA play production advisory committee and is currently serving on the NSAA District 3 administrative managing committee as well as being on the NSAA repre- sentative assembly. He and Sheila currently live in Wausa with their 4 children. His greatest goal in promoting sports and activities is to ensure equity, visibility, and the opportunity for involvement in multiple areas in the realm of sports/activities, creat- ing well rounded people that have an appreciation for both athletics and the fine arts. AJ Johnson, has been in education for 24 years, all in Hartington. He start- ed as a high school language arts teacher, then became special education coor- dinator, then principal, and finally superintendent. This is Mr. Johnson’s sixth year as superintendent at Hartington-Newcastle.

Hepburn is the third Gatorade Nebraska Boys Basketball Player of the Year to be chosen from Bellevue West High School. The award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field, distinguishes Hepburn as Nebraska’s best high school boys basketball player. Now a finalist for the prestigious Gatorade National Boys Basketball Player of the Year award, Hepburn joins an elite alumni association of past state boys basketball award winners, including Karl-Anthony Towns (2012-13 & 2013-14, St. Joseph High School, N.J.), Dwight Howard (2003-04, Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy, Ga.), Chris Bosh (2001-02, Lincoln High School, Texas), Paul Pierce (1994-95, Inglewood High School, Calif.), Chauncey Billups (1993-94 & 1994-95, George Washington High School, Colo.) and Jason Kidd (1991-92, St. Joseph Notre Dame High School, Calif.). The 6-foot-1, 180-pound junior guard led the Thunderbirds to a 21-3 record and the Class A state tournament at the time of his selection. Hepburn averaged 17.7 points, 6.1 assists, 4.6 rebounds and 3.1 steals through 24 games. An All-State and All-Metro honoree, he was selected to both the Omaha World-Herald All-Nebraska First Team and the Lincoln Journal Star Super-State First Team.
