CORONAVIRUS DISEASE 2019 (COVID-19) SITUATIONAL REPORT #295 MAY 19, 2021 DAILY HIGHLIGHTS Globally, COVID-19 cases have surpassed 163.8 million with more than 3.3 million deaths. In the United States, the total number of cases stands at 32,825,625 and deaths at 584,337. California will keep existing mask guidance in place until June 15 when it aims to fully reopen the economy. After that, the state plans to allow fully-vaccinated Californians to go without a mask in most indoor settings. You will still have the option to wear a mask if you choose. Check the guidance HERE. Vaccinations open to all Californians aged 12 and up. Book your shots HERE. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration expanded the emergency use authorization (EUA) for the Pfizer- BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine for the prevention of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) to include adolescents 12 through 15 years of age. The Indian Health Service also announced that facilities will now begin vaccinating youth, who are 12 years old and up, with the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine. The IHS has ample supply of Pfizer vaccine and are working with IHS Area Offices and federal, Tribal, and urban sites to distribute the vaccine that has unique cold-chain requirements. If your site receives vaccines from the IHS and needs Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines, contact the Vaccine Point of Contact in your Area. You can also view the full FDA press announcement HERE. UNITED STATES COVID-19: U.S. at a Glance* • Total cases: 32,825,625 • Total deaths: 584,337 • Jurisdictions reporting cases: 55 (50 states, District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico, the Northern Mariana Islands, and the U.S. Virgin Islands) *As of April 14, 2020, CDC case counts and death counts include both confirmed and probable cases and deaths. This change was made to reflect an interim COVID-19 position statement issued by the Council for State and Territorial Epidemiologists on April 5, 2020. A confirmed case or death is defined by meeting confirmatory laboratory evidence for COVID-19. A probable case or death is defined by: i) meeting clinical criteria AND epidemiologic evidence with no confirmatory laboratory testing performed for COVID-19; or ii) meeting presumptive laboratory evidence AND either clinical criteria OR epidemiologic evidence; or iii) meeting vital records criteria with no confirmatory laboratory testing performed for COVID19. State and local public health departments are now testing and publicly reporting their cases. In the event of a discrepancy between CDC cases and cases reported by state and local public health officials, data reported by states should be considered the most up to date.
