Queen are a British rock band that formed in London in 1970. Their classic line-up was Freddie Mercury (lead vocals, piano), Brian May (lead guitar, vocals), Roger Taylor (drums, vocals), and John Deacon (bass guitar). Queen’s earliest works were influenced by progressive rock, hard rock and heavy metal, but the band gradually ventured into more conventional and radio-friendly works by incorporating further styles, such as arena rock and pop rock, into their music. Before forming Queen, Brian May and Roger Taylor had played together in Smile. Mercury, then known by his birth name, Farrokh “Freddie” Bulsara, was a fan of Smile and encouraged them to experiment with more elaborate stage and recording techniques. Mercury joined in 1970, suggested the name “Queen”, and adopted his familiar stage name. Deacon was recruited before the band recorded their eponymous debut album in 1973. Queen first charted in the UK with their second album, Queen II, in 1974, but it was the release of Sheer Heart Attack later that year and A Night at the Opera in 1975 which brought them international success. The latter featured “Bohemian Rhapsody”, which stayed at number one in the UK for nine weeks and was influential in helping to popularise the music video. The band’s 1977 album News of the World contained “We Will Rock You” and “We Are the Champions”, which have become anthems at sporting events. By the early 1980s, Queen were one of the biggest stadium rock bands in the world. “Another One Bites the Dust” (1980) became their best-selling single, while their 1981 compilation album Greatest Hits is the best-selling album in the UK and is certified eight times platinum in the US. Their performance at the 1985 Live Aid concert has been ranked among the greatest in rock history by various music publications. In 1991, Mercury died of bronchopneumonia, a complication of AIDS, and Deacon retired in 1997. May and Taylor have performed under the Queen name with Paul Rodgers and Adam Lambert as vocalists on several tours since. Estimates of their record sales range from 150 million to 300 million records, making them one of the world’s best-selling music artists. Queen received the Outstanding Contribution to British Music Award from the British Phonographic Industry in 1990. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001. Album list: 01. Freddie Mercury was born Farrokh Bulsara on 5 September 1946 in Stone Town, Sultanate of Zanzibar (now Tanzania) and grew up in India, where he was educated at St Peter’s Boys School and took up the piano at the age of 7. At the age of 17 his family moved to Middlesex, England. Queen was formed in London in 1970 with singer Freddie Mercury, guitarist Brian May, drummer Roger Taylor and bassist John Deacon. Sheer Heart Attack and A Night at the Opera (1975) brought them international success. ‘Killer Queen’ was the first single from the album and it is one of the few songs where Freddie Mercury wrote the lyrics first, which are about an upper-class prostitute. ‘Killer Queen’ reached number 2 in the British charts and provided them with their first top 20 hit in the US, peaking at number 12 on the Billboard singles chart. The song won Freddie Mercury his first Ivor Novello Award. Performing forces and their handling The vocal part is performed by Freddie Mercury and is a high male voice – tenor. ‘Killer Queen’ uses lead and backing vocals, piano, overdubbed with a honky-tonk (jangle) piano, four electric guitars, bass guitar and drum kit. Guitars and vocals are overdubbed to create a richer colour. The guitars use techniques such as slides, bends, pull-offs and vibrato.

From my point of view, there is no other citation, which more properly expresses the emotional impact of music to human beings. People come and go, but music remains forever, since acoustic waves are not bound to matter like monuments, paintings, or sculptures. In contrast, music as sound in general is transmitted by matter vibrations and can be reproduced independent of space and time. In this way, music is able to connect humans from the earliest high cultures to people of our present societies all over the world. Music is indeed a universal language and likely not restricted to our planetary society. The importance of music to the human society is also underlined by the Voyager mission: Both Voyager spacecrafts, which were launched at August 20th and September 05th, 1977, are bound for the stars, now, after their visits to the outer planets of our solar system (mission status: https://voyager.jpl.nasa.gov/mission/status/). They carry a gold- plated copper phonograph record, which comprises 90 minutes of music selected from all cultures next to sounds, spoken messages, and images from our planet Earth. There is rather little hope that any extraterrestrial form of life will ever come along the Voyager spacecrafts. But if this is yet going to happen they are likely able to understand the sound of music from these records at least.

História 1968-1970 Brian May e Roger Taylor tocavam numa banda chamada Smile, com o vocalista/baixista Tim Staffel. Freddie era colega de quarto de Tim e seguia assiduamente os concertos do grupo. Queen’s achievement is amazing, to even see off The Beatles classic, Sergeant Pepper, an album that shook the world. Four individual talents: Brian May, an incredible guitarist who has earned a PhD in Astrophysics; Roger Taylor, one of the most influential drummers of all time; John Deacon, a fast and facile bassist, multi-instrumentalist and a brilliant electronics engineer; and Freddie Mercury, certainly one of most riveting showman to ever command a stage, with one common thread, the ability to marry a fantastic sense of melody and song structure to a swaggering presentation.

In my view, the world has gone mad. or someone’s Compassion is a lost concept, all decisions are made on the basis of how they affect ‘The Economy’ personal wealth and power, and selfishness—the F—k You philosophy—rules. So here I am, ranting on as I do. But I’m a musician, right? Yes, we’ll be seeing you out there in Sao Paulo and Rio and Buenos Aires and Santiago and Cordoba and Porto Alegre … how thrilling. It’s almost exactly 30 years since we headlined the very first Rock in Rio night—with Freddie, and John, of course, and now we return to a new young audience of rockers, with Adam, who I’m convinced they will adore.
