    I. Teej and Liberation of Women The people of Nepal comprise a great variety of races, religions, castes, cultures and languages. Such a diversity of the Nepali society predates the formation of the present state of Nepal. Geography, along with historical processes, seems to have greatly conditioned ethno- regional and cultural formation of the country. Diversities of land - high mountains, plains, deep rivers and dense forests have already fostered several isolated cultural pockets within its territorial span. As a result, several independent and semi-independent but scattered principalities with relative ethno- religious and cultural identity of their own have been existing. Over the period, they have gone through various socio- cultural process and historical intervention. Every country is dominant with certain language, custom, religion and caste. CBS report has stated that in Nepal the chief religions are the Hindu, Buddhist and the Muslim though Christianity is being practised for several decades which are the global influence of religion and culture. The most dominant religion „Hindu‟ is one of the chief religions in the world. In this regard, Axel Michaels comments, “Hinduism is counted as one of the world religions. With more than 663 million followers, it even forms the third largest religious domination-after Christianity (1.67 billion) and Islam (881 million). The „Hinduism‟ is based on the scriptures like the Vedas, the Puranas, the Upanisads, the epics like the Mahabharat, and the Ramayana and also on the philosophies of saints and Hindu priests as well as Brahminical way of life. Teej is the festival and ritual especially for the Hindu women, celebrated on the third day after the new moon in Nepali month of Bhadra Sukla Trayodasi (August).

    SACRED SPACES AND OBJECTS: THE VISUAL, MATERIAL, AND TANGIBLE George Pati BRAUER MUSEUM OF ART | APRIL 13 — MAY 8, 2016 WE AT THE BRAUER MUSEUM are grateful for the opportunity to present this exhibition curated by George Pati, Ph.D., Surjit S. Patheja Chair in World Religions and Ethics and Valparaiso University associate professor of theology and international studies. Through this exhibition, Professor Pati shares the fruits of his research conducted during his recent sabbatical and in addition provides valuable insights into sacred objects, sites, and practices in India. Professor Pati’s photographs document specific places but also reflect a creative eye at work; as an artist, his documents are also celebrations of the particular spaces that inspire him and capture his imagination. Accompanying the images in the exhibition are beautiful textiles and objects of metalware that transform the gallery into its own sacred space, with respectful and reverent viewing becoming its own ritual that could lead to a fuller understanding of the concepts Pati brings to our attention. Tulsi Vivah is conducted on the day after Kartik Ekadashi (the eleventh bright day of the new moon, Amavasya). According to Hindu mythology, Devi Tulsi is ceremonially married to Lord Vishnu on this day. The festival continues for five days and concludes on the full moon day of Purnima.. The festival is based on the legend of the marriage (or Vivah) of the holy Tulsi plant with Lord Vishnu. The Tulsi plant is considered holy by many Hindus and traditional Hindu homes used to have Tulsi plant growing in the courtyard.   • Laxmi Puja Pushpanjali
    Laxmi Puja Dhyana (ध्यान) Puja should begin with the meditation of Bhagawati Lakshmi. Dhyan should be done in front of already installed Shri Lakshmi statue in front of you. Following Mantra should be chanted while meditating on Bhagawati Shri Lakshmi. Shri Lakshmi Puja during Diwali Aavahan (आवाहन) After Dhyan of Shri Bhagwati Lakshmi, you should chant following Mantra in front of the Murti, by showing Aavahan Mudra (Aavahan Mudra is formed by joining both palms and folding both thumbs inwards). Pushpanjali (पुष्पाञ्जली) After Shri Lakshmi has been invoked, take five flowers in Anjali (by joining palm of both hands) and leave them in front of the Murti to offer seat to Shri Lakshmi while chanting following Mantra. Swagat (स्वागत) After offering flowers-made seat to Shri Bhagawati Lakshmi, chant following Mantra with folded hands to welcome Shri Lakshmi. Padya (पाद्य) After welcoming Shri Lakshmi offer Her water to wash the feet while chanting following Mantra. Arghya (अर्घ्य) After Padya offering, offer water to Shri Lakshmi for head Abhishekam while chanting following Mantra. Gandha-Samarpan/Chandan-Samarpan (गन्ध-समर्पण/चन्दन-समर्पण) Offer Chandan to Shri Lakshmi while chanting following Mantra. Pushpa-Samarpan (पुष्प-समर्पण) Offer flowers to Shri Lakshmi while chanting following Mantra. Anga-Pujan (अङ्ग-पूजन) Now worship those Gods who are body parts of Shri Bhagawati Lakshmi itself. For that take Gandha, Akshata and Pushpa in left hand and leave them near to Shri Lakshmi Murti with right hand while chanting following Mantra(s).
