So he too prospers in all he does. 4 The wicked are not like this; rather they are like chaff driven by the wind. 5 When judgement comes, therefore, they will not stand firm, nor will sinners in the assembly of the righteous. 6 The LORD watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked is doomed. 1 WHY are the nations in turmoil? 2 Why do the peoples hatch their futile plots? 2 Kings of the earth stand ready, and princes conspire together against the LORD and his anointed king. Psalms 2.3–3.1 2 3 Let us break their fetters, they cry, let us throw off their chains! 4 He who sits enthroned in the heavens laughs, the Lord derides them; 5 then angrily he rebukes them, threatening them in his wrath. 6 I myself have enthroned my king, he says, on Zion, my holy mountain. 7 I shall announce the decree of the LORD: You are my son, he said to me; this day I become your father. 8 Ask of me what you will: I shall give you nations as your domain, the earth to its farthest ends as your possession. 9 You will break them with a rod of iron, shatter them like an earthen pot. 10 Be mindful, then, you kings; take warning, you earthly rulers: 11 worship the LORD with reverence; tremble, and pay glad homage to the king, for fear the LORD may become angry and you may be struck down in mid-course; for his anger flares up in a moment. Happy are all who find refuge in him! 12 (2:11) 1 A psalm: for David (when he fled 3 from his son Absalom) LORD, how Psalms 3.2–4.2 3 numerous are my enemies! How many there are who rise against me, 2 how many who say of me, He will not find safety in God! [Selah] 3 But you, LORD, are a shield to cover me: you are my glory, you raise my head high. 4 As often as I cry aloud to the LORD, he answers from his holy mountain. [Selah] 5 I lie down and sleep, and I wake again, for the LORD upholds me. 6 I shall not fear their myriad forces ranged against me on every side. 7 Arise, LORD; save me, my God! You strike all my foes across the face; you break the teeth of the wicked. 8 Yours is the victory, LORD; may your blessing rest on your people. [Selah] 1 For the leader: with stringed 4 instruments: a psalm: for David ANSWER me when I call, God, the upholder of my right! When I was hard pressed you set me free; be gracious to me and hear my prayer. 2 Men of rank, how long will you dishonour my glorious one, setting your heart on empty idols and resorting to false gods? [Selah] Psalms 4.3–5.4 4 3 Know that the LORD has singled out for himself his loyal servant; the Lord hears when I call to him. 4 Let awe restrain you from sin; while you rest, meditate in silence: [Selah] 5 offer your due of sacrifice, and put your trust in the LORD. 6 There are many who say, If only we might see good times! Let the light of your face shine on us, LORD. 7 But you have put into my heart a greater happiness than others had from grain and wine in plenty. 8 Now in peace I shall lie down and sleep; for it is you alone, LORD, who let me live in safety. 1 For the leader: with the flutes: 5 a psalm: for David LISTEN to my words, LORD, consider my inmost thoughts; 2 heed my cry for help, my King and God. 3 When I pray to you, LORD, in the morning you will hear me. I shall prepare a morning sacrifice and keep watch. 4 For you are not a God who welcomes wickedness; evil can be no guest of yours. Psalms 5.5–6.1 5 5 The arrogant will not stand in your presence; you hate all evildoers, 6 you make an end of liars. The LORD abhors those who are violent and deceitful. 7 But through your great love I may come into your house, and at your holy temple bow down in awe. 8 Lead me and protect me, LORD, because I am beset by enemies; give me a straight path to follow. 9 Nothing they say is true; they are bent on complete destruction. Their throats are gaping tombs; smooth talk runs off their tongues. 10 God, bring ruin on them; let their own devices be their downfall. Cast them out for their many rebellions, for they have defied you. 11 But let all who take refuge in you rejoice, let them for ever shout for joy; shelter those who love your name, that they may exult in you. 12 For you, LORD, will bless the righteous; you will surround them with favour as with a shield. 1 For the leader: with stringed 6 instruments: according to the Psalms 6.2–7.1 6 sheminith: a psalm: for David LORD, do not rebuke me in your anger, do not punish me in your wrath. 2 Show favour to me, LORD, for my strength fails; LORD, heal me, for my body is racked with pain; 3 I am utterly distraught. When will you act, LORD? 4 Return, LORD, deliver me; save me, for your love is steadfast. 5 Among the dead no one remembers you; in Sheol who praises you? 6 I am wearied with my moaning; all night long my pillow is wet with tears, I drench my bed with weeping. 7 Grief dims my eyes; they are worn out because of all my adversaries. 8 Leave me alone, you workers of evil, for the LORD has heard my weeping! 9 The LORD has heard my entreaty; the LORD will accept my prayer. 10 All my enemies will be confounded, stricken with terror; they will turn away in sudden confusion. 1 A shiggaion: for David (which he 7 sang to the LORD because of Cush, a Benjamite) LORD my God, in you I find Psalms 7.2–9 7 refuge; rescue me from all my pursuers and save me 2 before they tear at my throat like a lion and drag me off beyond hope of rescue. 3 LORD my God, if I have done any of these things -- if I have stained my hands with guilt, 4 if I have repaid a friend evil for good or wantonly despoiled an adversary -- 5 let an enemy come in pursuit and overtake me, let him trample my life to the ground and lay my honour in the dust! [Selah] 6 Arise, LORD, in your anger, rouse yourself in wrath against my adversaries. My God who ordered justice to be done, awake. 7 Let the peoples assemble around you; take your seat on high above them. 8 The LORD passes sentence on the nations. Uphold my cause, LORD, as my righteousness deserves, for I am clearly innocent. 9 Let the wicked do no more harm, but grant support to the righteous, you searcher of heart and mind, you righteous God. Psalms 7.10–8.2 8 10 I rely on God to shield me; he saves the honest of heart. 11 God is a just judge, constant in his righteous anger. 12 The enemy sharpens his sword again, strings his bow and makes it ready. 13 It is against himself he has prepared his deadly shafts and tipped his arrows with fire. 14 He is in labour with iniquity; he has conceived mischief and given birth to lies. 15 He has made a pit and dug it deep, but he himself will fall into the hole he was making. 16 His mischief will recoil upon him, and his violence fall on his own head. 17 I shall praise the LORD for his righteousness and sing to the name of the LORD Most High. 1 For the leader: according to the 8 gittith: a psalm: for David LORD our sovereign, how glorious is your name throughout the world! Your majesty is praised as high as the heavens, 2 from the mouths of babes and infants at the breast. You have established a Psalms 8.3–9.2 9 bulwark against your adversaries to restrain the enemy and the avenger. 3 When I look up at your heavens, the work of your fingers, at the moon and the stars you have set in place, 4 what is a frail mortal, that you should be mindful of him, a human being, that you should take notice of him? 5 Yet you have made him little less than a god, crowning his head with glory and honour. 6 You make him master over all that you have made, putting everything in subjection under his feet: 7 all sheep and oxen, all the wild beasts, 8 the birds in the air, the fish in the sea, and everything that moves along ocean paths.

A certain amateur film enthusiast, who as yet prefers to remain unknown, decided to take a flier in the picture bus- iness on his own account. He is an ardent movie fan, he thought he knew how pictures should be made and was willing to back his judgment at no matter what cost. By an arrangement with us he engaged Marshall Neilan to direct the picture between his regular First National releases. As money didn't matter, he engaged John Barrymore to play the leading role. Neilan had a free hand on the pro- duction. He assembled a fine cast, including Wesley Barry, Anna Q. Nilsson, Coleen Moore, J. Barney Sherry and other well known film players. The vehicle selected was Albert Payson Terhune's story, "THE LOTUS EATER," the tale of a young man of twenty-five who saw a woman for the first time when he stepped off the palatial yacht upon which his millionaire father's will had held him prisoner.     Lillian Ducey Lived: November 26, 1878 - December 9, 1952 Worked as: director, screenwriter, title writer, writer Worked In: United States by Daniela Bajar, Livia Bloom “The skeptical may not believe it… Hundreds of directors may scoff—But—There is one director who is efficient—and without the aid of puttees. Introducing Lillian Ducey, directing Youth Triumphant for the newly formed Fisher Productions. Efficiency plus is said to be Miss Ducey’s middle name,” heralded the Los Angeles Times in reference to Ducey’s first job as a motion picture director in 1923 (III34). With silent star Anna Q. Nilsson in the lead role, Youth Triumphant, alternately titled Enemies of Children, was a melodrama about “a street waif of questionable parentage [who] is taken into a wealthy home,” according to Variety’s summary (26). Distributed by Mammoth Pictures and released on December 13, 1923, the black-and-white six-reeler was based on the 1921 novel by George Gibbs. The film was expected to be the first of many, and as the Los Angeles Times announced a few months later: “Mrs. Ducey’s next production will be an original story of her own … .” (II10). Yet despite these announcements of her directorial debut and the possibility of other films, Lillian Ducey’s only association with directing is a single feature. In this, she can be compared to other writers like Frances Marion and Eugenie Magnus Ingleton who had one opportunity to direct. However, unlike Marion and Ingleton, Ducey’s credit has not been verified. In the American Film Institute Catalog, Ducey is not even credited as the sole author of Youth Triumphant; John M.
