Youth affiliated with Junior Achievement of Atlanta, Wednesday’s Child, 100 Black Men South Metro, Page Turners Make Great Learners and St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church Youth Group were invited to attend the event. Complimentary popcorn and soft drinks will be provided to the participants, as well as surprise gifts from Horford and Cricket. “Barbershop: The Next Cut” is the third in the successful Barbershop series with an ensemble cast including star and producer Ice Cube, Cedric The Entertainer, Regina Hall, Anthony Anderson, Eve, JB Smoove, with Common and Nicki Minaj. Opening in theaters nationwide on April 15, the movie was directed by Malcolm D. Lee (The Best Man films, Welcome Home, Roscoe Jenkins ), with a screenplay by Kenya Barris (Black-ish ) & Tracy Oliver (The Neighbors ).     PRODUCTION BIOGRAPHIES MIKE O’MALLEY (Executive Producer & Showrunner, Writer- 201, 207, 210) Truly a multi-hyphenate, Mike O’Malley got his start in front of the camera hosting Nickelodeon’s “Get the Picture” and the iconic game show “Guts”. His success continued in television with standout roles in “Yes Dear”, “My Name Is Earl”, “My Own Worst Enemy”, “Justified”, and his Emmy®-nominated, groundbreaking performance as ‘Burt Hummel’ on the hit show “Glee”. Mike’s feature work includes roles in Eat Pray Love, Cedar Rapids, Leatherheads, Meet Dave, 28 Days, and the upcoming Untitled Concussion Project starring Will Smith which will be released Christmas 2015.     CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 Background of The Problem Social class as one of a social factor that play a role in language variation is the structure of relationship between groups where people are clasified based on their education, occupation, and income. Social class in which people are grouped into a set of hierarchical social categories, the mos common being the upper, middle, working class, and lower classes. Variation in laguage is an important topic in sociolinguistics, because it refers to social factror in society and how each factor plays a role in language varieties. Languages vary between ethnic groups, social situations, and spesific location. In social relationship, language is used by someone to represent who they are, it relates with strong identity of a certain social group. In this study the writer concern about swear words in rap song lyric. Karjalainen (2002:24) “swearing is generally considered to be the use of language, an unnecessary linguistic feature that corrupts our language, sounds unpleasant and uneducated, and could well be disposed of”. It can be concluded that swear words are any kind of rude language which is used with or without any purpose. Usually we can finds swear words on rap songs. Rap is one of elements of hip-hop culture that has been connected to the black people. The music of the artists who were born during 80’s appeared to present the music in a way that describes as a social critique. This period of artists focused on the social issue of black urban life, which later forulated hardcore activist, and gangster rap genres of hip-hop rap.

    HISTORY OF BARBERSHOP By David Krause and David Wright Definition of barbershop harmony. Read: Definition of Barbershop Harmony, from the Forward of the Contest and Judging Handbook. The Purpose Of This Course. We will attempt to trace the roots and the evolution of barbershop harmony from well before its actual beginnings up to the present. We will try to answer these questions: What were the tides of history which spawned the birth of the barbershop quartet, and what environment allowed this style of music to flourish? What were its musical forerunners? What are its defining characteristics? What other types of music were fostered contemporaneously, and how did they influence the growth of quartet singing? Which styles are similar, and how are they similar? How did the term "barbershop" arise? How long did the historical era of the barbershop quartet last? What other kinds of music sprang forth from it? Why did the style eventually need preservation? How was SPEBSQSA formed, and how did it become a national movement? What other organizations have joined the cause? How have they coped with the task of preservation? Are current day efforts still on course in preserving the style? How has the style changed since the Society was formed? We will spend the next few hours contemplating and attempting to answer these questions. Overtones. As barbershoppers, we are very conscious of the "ringing" effect which complements our singing. We consider it our reward for singing well- defined pitches in tune. The fact that a tone produced by a voice or an instrument is accompanied by a whole series of pitches in addition to the fundamental one which our ear most easily detects has been known for centuries.

    Paige Dahlke 3/5/15 Media 160 Progress-ish Primetime television has always been a place where white America could feel safe and comfortable. The wholesome families on TV served as an affirmation that the American dream was an achievable reality, but as Marlon Riggs would agree, this “reality” was actually a myth. Even though African Americans were eventually allowed to be included in the mythical family, the odds of them being portrayed realistically was little to none. Race issues were whitewashed from the realm of primetime TV, even during the Civil Rights Movement -- a realistic depiction of which could only be found on the news. Few had the guts to present audiences with so much as a semi realistic version of society, and those that did never found the funding to last longer than a season or two. Reality has proved unable to entertain the masses in the past, but does that still hold true today? Not completely, but after examining the contemporary African American family sitcom, Black-ish, it is evident that television is making its way in that direction. While its portrayal of the mythical American family is reminiscent of The Cosby Show, it also confronts race issues head-on. Created by Kenya Barris, Black-ish stars Anthony Anderson as Andre Johnson: a successful African American man who questions whether the wealth and success of him and his wife has caused their family to forget their race. The comedy fulfills the historically necessary qualifications for its ratings to do well; it represents the American dream and embraces the middle-class value that if you want to succeed and be happy, you have to work hard.
