It is spearheaded by volunteers, unified by a shared vision to build a museum experience in Washington DC that does justice to the breadth and richness of science fiction, and inspires visitors to embrace the genre and its ideas. The Museum will show that science fiction can be used to encourage learning and stimulate the imagination. It will be a place for people of all ages to come together around a shared interest in science fiction. "The physical museum will provide a permanent center for community and culture, not just for science fiction fans but all who are fascinated by this era of onrushing change. The Museum will draw from those sharing an interest in the genre, from thoughtful explorations to joyful media adventures. These will include many thousands of visitors to a major tourism destination city, visitors whose passion for the future will add a wondrous layer upon Washington’s many sites already dedicated to the present and the past. The Museum will display science fiction artifacts, inform about its rich history, and host events – from lectures and film screenings, to game tournaments and corporate product introductions. The Museum will also strive to develop participatory activities through interactive exhibits, community involvement, and competitions. - David Brin, Advisory Board Member Museum of Science Fiction MISSION Education is central to the Museum’s mission. Science fiction presents an ideal device for sparking interest and spurring proficiency in STEM academic areas (science, technology, engineering, and math). However, Museum activities will go beyond STEM and include a broader focus to include the arts. The mission of the Museum of Science Fiction is to create a center of gravity where art and science are powered by imagination. Science fiction is the story of humanity: who we were, who we are, and who we dream to be. The Museum will present this story through displays, interactivity, and programs in ways that excite, educate, entertain, and create a new generation of dreamers. The Museum of Science Fiction fosters an environment of imagination; bridges the gap between the Arts and STEM learning; and preserves and celebrates the rich history of science fiction and its impact on society. INTRODUCTION TO THE GENRE What is science fiction Science fiction is often difficult to define because it encompasses many sub-genres and a wide variety of media. Ray Bradbury once described science fiction as “the art of the Museum of Science Fiction: Proprietary and Confidential 5 Museum of Science Fiction: Strategic Master Plan possible.” His broad definition alludes to the genre’s wide-ranging spectrum as it pertains to games, film, television, art, music, design, fashion, architecture, and literature. It offers a general and inclusive, rather than a narrow, exclusive understanding of science fiction. Why is science fiction important Through story, science fiction has the potential to transform, motivate, and educate. In one sense, science fiction is fun, but in another sense, it explores the themes of ethics and morality in evolving societies and inspires its audiences. The beginnings of science fiction are frequently debated. The first work of science fiction could date as far back as 170 AD, when Lucian of Samosata wrote a satirical adventure called A True History in which the character visits the moon by way of a giant waterspout. Others argue that Mary Shelley penned the genre’s first true work. No matter its official starting point, science fiction has served an important role in drawing others to the intersection of art and science. Why is science fiction relevant Science fiction is no longer an obscure sub-culture. Major motion pictures and television programs have firmly established the genre in American and international pop culture. In film, Star Trek, Star Wars, Planet of the Apes, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and Alien each broke new conceptual ground and raised our collective imagination. The success of the film Avatar and the ongoing popularity of the annual San Diego Comic-Con convention further underscore the financial significance and mainstream acceptance of science fiction. Anecdotal statistics are compelling. Avatar was the first film to gross more than $2 billion. In 2012, San Diego Comic-Con attendance again surpassed 130,000 people for the fifth consecutive year; tickets, which cost up to $175, sold out in less than 90 minutes for next year’s event. Sustained popularity and public interest continue to grow. Why build a science fiction museum A physical museum will become a place to house the genre, providing a permanent center for the science fiction community and culture. It will be a place to display science fiction artifacts, to inform the community about the rich history of the genre, and to host social events centered around science fiction – from educational programs, lectures and film screenings, to video game tournaments and corporate product introductions. The Museum will also strive to develop participatory activities through interactive exhibits, community involvement, and competitions. A physical museum will be a place to not only introduce new fans to the genre, but also bring together different science fiction communities that may have otherwise never met. It will become an extension to regional science fiction events in the community, such as Awesome Con. Ultimately, the Museum of Science Fiction will become a center of gravity for science fiction in Washington, DC.     The Uses of Animation 1 1 The Uses of Animation ANIMATION Animation is the process of making the illusion of motion and change by means of the rapid display of a sequence of static images that minimally differ from each other. The illusion—as in motion pictures in general—is thought to rely on the phi phenomenon. Animators are artists who specialize in the creation of animation.     Animation 1 Animation The bouncing ball animation (below) consists of these six frames. This animation moves at 10 frames per second. Animation is the rapid display of a sequence of static images and/or objects to create an illusion of movement. The most common method of presenting animation is as a motion picture or video program, although there are other methods. This type of presentation is usually accomplished with a camera and a projector or a computer viewing screen which can rapidly cycle through images in a sequence. Animation can be made with either hand rendered art, computer generated imagery, or three-dimensional objects, e.g., puppets or clay figures, or a combination of techniques. The position of each object in any particular image relates to the position of that object in the previous and following images so that the objects each appear to fluidly move independently of one another. The viewing device displays these images in rapid succession, usually 24, 25, or 30 frames per second.     Cine-Excess 13 Delegate Abstracts Alice Haylett Bryan From Inside to The Hills Have Eyes: French Horror Directors at Home and Abroad In an interview for the website The Digital Fix, French director Pascal Laugier notes the lack of interest in financing horror films in France. He states that after the international success of his second film Martyrs (2008) he received only one proposition from a French producer, but between 40 and 50 propositions from America: “Making a genre film in France is a kind of emotional roller-coaster” explains Laugier, “sometimes you feel very happy to be underground and trying to do something new and sometimes you feel totally desperate because you feel like you are fighting against everyone else.” This is a situation that many French horror directors have echoed. For all the talk of the new wave of French horror cinema, it is still very hard to find funding for genre films in the country, with the majority of French directors cutting their teeth using independent production companies in France, before moving over to helm mainstream, bigger-budget horrors and thrillers in the USA. This paper will provide a critical overview of the renewal in French horror cinema since the turn of the millennium with regard to this situation, tracing the national and international productions and co-productions of the cycle’s directors as they navigate the divide between indie horror and the mainstream. Drawing on a number of case studies including the success of Alexandre Aja, the infamous Hellraiser remake that never came into fruition, and the recent example of Coralie Fargeat’s Revenge, it will explore the narrative, stylistic and aesthetic choices of these directors across their French and American productions.

Firstly, this paper discusses the evolution of cinema, which evolves through the interaction, co-existence and convergence with other media, as well as corresponds to the anthropotropic trend. Secondly, this paper investigates the digital media and technology in desktop films. “Desktop films” create cyberspaces and reproduce people’s virtual lives, revealing the influences of media technology, which is considered as a double-edged sword. Thirdly, this paper analyzes how desktop film exerts impacts on cinematic communication, while reshaping the spectatorship and audience’s viewing mechanism. “Desktop films” are suitable to be watched on computer, thus making audiences become active and have more autonomy.     Journal of Teacher Education for Sustainability Volume 17, issue 1, 2015 Editorial The Editorial board welcomes this issue of the Journal of Teacher Education for Sustainability, which consists of the papers that deal with very important issues within education for sustainable development: paradigmatic frameworks to guide educators in assessing sustainability competencies, digital citizenship in the afterschool space and its implications for education for sustainable development (ESD), the environmental know- ledge and attitudes and ESD and many others. I would like to thank all the members of the Editorial board for their hard work. My thanks are also due to the authors of the papers. The paper by Besong and Holland focuses on the concepts of sustainability and sustainability competence, which are controversial, complex, difficult to define and measure and have varied meanings for different people and practices. Given the complex nature of sustainability, there is limited availability of paradigmatic frameworks to guide educators in assessing sustainability competencies. The paper introduces the Dispositions, Abilities and Behaviours (DAB) framework, which influenced the design of an intervention in 2013ñ2014 that profiled sustainability competencies among final year undergraduate students in a higher education institution. The results of the mixed methods study indicate that the DAB framework has good potential as a guide to educators or researchers in understanding and profiling sustainability-related abilities, attitudes and actions (areas of performance) of cohorts of students within higher education settings. The paper by Howard accentuates that ESD challenges traditional curricula and formal schooling in important ways. ESD requires systemic thinking, interdisciplinarity and is strengthened through the contributions of all disciplines.

I love 3D Mantzaris, Adam Pesapane (PES), Antony Elworthy , Tim Burton, Wes animation but would like to broaden my skills so that I have more Anderson, Travis Night and studios like Fish, Watermark, Flux, Yukfoo, diversity when it comes to my abilities as a motion designer. I like Cirkus, The Rig, Mukpuddy, Passion, Laika and Aardman. As a motion how stop-motion requires other physical craft skills. I know for a fact designer any technique that deals with movement interests me. I have the art of face to face verbal storytelling is disappearing and would done some stop-motion experiments in the past and found it a fun and like to explore how these valuable personal and cultural stories can be creative technique to use and would like to explore the subject further.
