Published 1 December 2004. The genus Isophya is the largest genus of bush-crickets in Central Europe and the second largest in Europe. Its members are difficult to identify because of their morphological similarity. How- ever, most species differ distinctly in their calling songs. Nearly half of the Central European species have been described less than fifty years ago, and no detailed revision has been published since this time. We have analysed male morphology and bioacoustics, and present figures of male pronotum and tegmina, cerci, stridulatory file and oscillograms of the calling songs of all species known to occur in the region including a identification table. According to these data, the following taxa are considered to be valid species: Isophya pyrenaea (Serville, 1839), I. camp- toxypha (Fieber, 1853), I. modesta (Frivaldszky, 1867), I. costata Brunner von Wattenwyl, 1878, I. kraussii Brunner von Wattenwyl, 1878, I. modestior Brunner von Wattenwyl, 1882 I. brevi- cauda Ramme, 1931, I. pienensis Maran, 1954; stat. rev., I. stysi Cejchan, 1958, I. beybienkoi Maran, 1958 and I. posthumoidalis Bazyluk, 1971. This species was discovered on the basis of the special rhythmic pattern of its male calling song. Regarding morphology Isophya nagyi is similar to the species of the Isophya camptoxypha species-group (I. ciucasi, I. sicula, I. posthumoidalis, I. camptoxypha), however the male stridulatory file contains more stridulatory pegs (105–130) compared to the other members of the species group (50–80 pegs). Calling males produce a long sequence of evenly repeated syllables (repetition rate varies between 60–80 syllables at 21–24 oC), and most importantly syllables are composed of three characteristic impulse groups contrary to songs of the other species where syllables are composed of two elements or the song consists of two syllable types. -

Özellikle Ortaçağ döneminde etkin olarak yerleşme ve savunma bakımından kullanılan kale yapıları, kuzeyden güneye limanlara ulaşan ticaret yollarının güvenliğini sağlamaktaydı. Makalede coğrafi konumu ve yapısal özellikleri bakımından özgün bir nitelik taşıyan Çandır Kalesi ele alınmıştır. Kalenin yalnızca bir savunma yapısı olarak değil, geniş bir alanı kaplayan yapılardan oluşan küçük bir yerleşim birimi olarak kurulduğu anlaşılmaktadır. Çalışmada Kilikya Bölgesi’nde Ortaçağ’da Bizans döneminde Ermeni baronluğuna ait olarak tanımlanan Çandır Kalesi üzerine yapılmış tarihsel çalışmalar incelenmiş, kale alanında günümüze ulaşan yapı kalıntıları belirlenmiştir. Günümüzde Çandır Kalesi’nde görülebilen doğal ve insan eliyle gerçekleşen yıkım, kale kompleksinin yapısal özelliklerinin yeniden tanımlanmasını gerekli kılmıştır. Especially in the Middle Ages, the castle structures, which were used effectively in terms of settlement and defense, ensured the security of the trade routes reaching the ports from north to south. It is understood that the fortress structures were established at strategic points on the main transportation and trade routes. -

Travaux du Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle “Grigore Antipa” 62(2): 191–211. https://doi.org/10.3897/travaux.62.e48604 Abstract During 2013–2017, assemblages of bush-crickets and grasshoppers were surveyed in two neighbour- ing flysch mountains – Čergov Mts (48 sites) and Levočské vrchy Mts (62 sites) – in northern part of Western Carpathians. Species were sampled mostly at grasslands and forest edges along elevational gradient between 370 and 1220 m a.s.l. Within the entire area (ca 930 km2) we documented 54 species, representing 38% of Carpathian Orthoptera species richness. We found the same species number (45) in both mountain ranges with nine unique species in each of them. No difference in mean species rich- ness per site was found between the mountain ranges (mean ± SD = 12.5 ± 3.9). Elevation explained 2.9% of variation in site species richness. Elevation and mountain range identity explained 7.3% of assemblages composition. We found new latitudinal as well as longitudinal limits in the distribu- tion for several species. -

ASSING Abstract: Based on an examination of the available types and additional material, ten Sunius species are recorded from Turkey and attributed to three species groups. Six species are described, figured, and distinguished from similar congeners: S. dolabrifer sp. n., S. nurdaghensis sp. n., S. rastrifer sp. n., S. wunderlei sp. n., 5. tuberiventris sp. n., and 5. balkarensis sp. n. The identity of S. adanensis (LOKAY) remains doubtful. The distributions of all the species, except S. adanensis, are mapped. At least three of the species are wing-dimorphic. A diagnostic key to the Turkish representatives of Sunius is presented. Introduction In the Western Palaearctic region, the genus Sunius CURTIS is represented by approxi- mately 50 species, only four of which have been reported from Turkey (ASSING 1994, COIFFAIT 1984): S. adanensis (LOKAY), S. melanocephalus (FABRICIUS), S. phasianus (BORDONl), and S. anatolicus ASSING. Recent revisions of the Turkish representatives of other genera (e. g. ASSING 2001, in press) have shown that the staphylinid fauna of Turkey is poorly known. -

Temporal patterns and frequency spectra of the songs and stridulatory fi les of 14 species of the genus of the phanerop- terid bush-crickets Isophya from Eastern Europe, Altai and the Caucasus are given. The sound signals of the species studied can be separated into three main types: (1) those consisting of two syllables (Isophya gracilis, I. kalishevskii, I. schneideri, I. caspica, Isophya sp. 1); (2) one syllable and series of clicks (I. modesta rossica, I. stepposa, I. taurica, I. brunneri, I. doneciana, I. altaica); (3) single repeating syllables of uniform shape and duration (I. pienensis, Isophya sp. 2 and possibly I. stysi). The acoustic signals and behaviour of eastern European, Altai and Caucasian species are compared to those of several other European species of Isophya. The bush-cricket Saga pedo, one of the largest predatory insects, has a scattered distribution across 20 countries in Europe. At the northern boundary of its distribution, this species is most commonly found in Slovakia and Hungary. In Slovakia in 2003–2006, 36 known and potentially favourable localities were visited and at seven this species was recorded for the first time. This species has been found in Slovakia in xerothermic forest steppes and limestone grikes (98% of localities) and on slopes (10–45°) with south-westerly or westerly aspects (90%) at altitudes of 220–585 m a.s.l. (mean 433 m, n = 20 localities). Most individuals (66%) were found in grass-herb layers 10–30 cm high and almost 87% within 10 m of a forest edge (oak, beech and hornbeam being prevalent). The maximum density was 12 nymphs (3rd–5th instar) / 1000 m2 (July 4, 510 m a.s.l.). In a comparison of five present and previous S. pedo localities, 43 species of Orthoptera were found in the present and 37 in previous localities. TEZCAN A b s t r a c t : This paper provides new faunistic data about 15 species of Cardiophorus ESCHSCHOLTZ 1829 (Coleoptera, Elateridae, Cardiophorinae) from Turkey collected different localities between 1962 and 2005. The material is presented together with collecting dates and locality data. For each species new distributional localities were also reported and given with attached maps. Introduction The Elateridae is a widespread and rather large family of Coleoptera, with more than 10000 described species approximately 750 genera worldwide. There are some descrip- tions and faunistical records on Turkish elaterids in the entomological literature. In this family, Cardiophorus is quite rich genus and the studies of SAHLBERG 1912-1913, GUGLIELMI & PLATIA 1985, LODOS 1998, GULPERCIN & TEZCAN 2006, 2009, KESDEK et al. 2006, LÖBL & SMETANA 2007, MERTLIK & PLATIA 2008 and GULPERCIN & TEZCAN 2011 have great importance. Recently, the distributional catalogue of Turkish Elateridae (Coleoptera) fauna has been published (GULPERCIN & TEZCAN 2010). In this publication, a total of 66 species be- longing to Cardiophorus have been listed with their distributional data. The material of Cardiophorus was collected from different localities of Turkey in 1962- 2005. The material is deposited in the Lodos Entomological Museum (LEMT) of Department of Plant Protection, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ege, Izmir, Turkey. The aim of the present study is to contribute to the knowledge of the Cardiophorus fauna of the Turkey by evaluating the material deposited in this museum. -
