GEE & HICKTON FUNERAL DIRECTORS NO ROOM AT THE CEMETERY Taita Cemetery which opened for burials in 1892 has run out of new burial plots. SO WHERE WILL YOU GO IF YOU WANT TO BE BURIED? All Hutt Valley burials into a new plot will have to occur at the picturesque grounds of Akatarawa Cemetery in Upper Hutt. Burials will still take place at Taita but will be restricted to second interments into existing plots and interment of ashes. In the past, burials were the most common option, yet in more recent times, cremation has become the choice for approximately 70% of families. Gee & Hickton operate the only crematorium in the Hutt Valley. Situated in the beautiful Akatarawa Cemetery, it provides a small committal chapel for that private family farewell. For many families it is comforting to know that the cremation of their loved one occurs within the Hutt Valley where they lived and worked. Cremation provides greater flexibility when choosing a final resting place for the ashes which can be buried in a cemetery or scattered somewhere that was significant to the deceased or family. A headstone or plaque is often chosen to provide a focal point for family memories. ARE YOU PREPARED? Have you and your family given any thought to your options in the event of a death in the family? We know it can be a difficult topic to discuss, however families that know the answers to these questions find making funeral arrangements much less stressful. If you would like further information on this or any other matters relating to funerals, the professional caring team at Gee & Hickton are here to help. We have a flexible, supportive approach to working with families to provide exactly what is appropriate for your family. Call Gee & Hickton on 528 2331 anytime and experience for yourself how we can ease the stress, worry and apprehension in your time of grief.
