To make sure you have the most recent version, visit our website, www.torahlive.com and click on the treasure chest tab, where you will find a section called Presentation Materials. The version you have at the moment is 1.2. Screen Resolution For best visual effect, the presentation should run in full screen. That way the audience does not see all the ugly files sitting on your desktop! You can turn the full screen mode on at any time by pressing the Escape key on your keyboard. Subsequent presses of the Escape key will toggle between full screen mode on and off. The graphics have been created to display at 1024 x 768 pixels. Since scaling the window larger and smaller will alter this resolution, the presentation has been set to disallow resizing. Turning on the full screen feature will force the presentation to display at optimum size (1024 x 768) so that you and your audience can enjoy the presentation at its best. Pointer You can give the presentation without having to touch the keyboard or mouse-pad by using a remote control pointer to forward to the next slide. This gives you the freedom to walk around the room, interacting with students and answering questions, without having to stand right next to the computer. Many remote controls come with built-in lasers, allowing you to point a red dot at the screen to draw attention to words or pictures. We recommend the HiRO H50064 3-In-1 2.4GHz WiFi Presenter with Laser Pointer and Wireless Mouse available from Amazon here. (No, we don’t get a commission!) 5 Lesson Plan • This material was not organized into a PowerPoint presentation, where you must begin with the first slide and follow a linear path until you reach the end. It is, rather, presented as a flexible program, allowing you to pick and choose sections to teach, depending on the time available and your audience. Navigation • You can navigate around the various parts of the presentation by clicking on the menu headings on the main menu screen, which will open up sub-menus. If you want to return at any point to the previous menu or main menu, use the “bread crumbs” on the top left of the screen (circled in red below.) • To move back and forth within each section, hover the cursor around the right-hand part of the screen (cursor should change from arrow to hand) and click. To move back a frame, hover around the left side of the screen and click. You can also use the pointer to do this by going into the settings page and using the Define Pointer buttons. Remember to choose Save. 6 • Another way to move back and forth between frames is with the Left and Right arrow keys: Right arrow = next frame; Left arrow = previous frame. Settings Page You can access the settings page from the left-most icon at the top of the main menu (circled in red below). There you will be able to select how you want the heading items on the main menu to appear: with a swoosh sound or without; with the falling in effect or without. You can also choose which keys, on the pointer or keyboard, will move a slide backward and forward. (Make sure to save your selection before exiting.) We are going to attempt to understand the deep secrets and mysteries of this incredible day, so that you will experience Sabbath like you never have before. First, does anyone know the source for Sabbath being called a treasure? Who first said it? Gerber This dissertation is a biographical study of Moses Hayim Luzzatto (1707–1746 or 1747). It presents the social and religious context in which Luzzatto was variously celebrated as the leader of a kabbalistic-messianic confraternity in Padua, condemned as a deviant threat by rabbis in Venice and central and eastern Europe, and accepted by the Portuguese Jewish community after relocating to Amsterdam.

    TAMING THE INNER CRITIC Transforming Attitudes by Judging Favorably s we go about our daily affairs observing and interacting with our family, friends, A acquaintances, and business associates, we are subconsciously (and sometimes consciously!) making judgments about others, either negatively or positively. Every interaction is entered into our mental computer. We can become inclined to judge people negatively. However, the Torah requires that we judge almost everyone positively (except someone with a known reputation for being “evil”). Responses to Comments and Elaborations of Previous Posts III by Marc B. Shapiro This post is dedicated to the memory of Rabbi Chaim Flom, late rosh yeshiva of Yeshivat Ohr David in Jerusalem. I first met Rabbi Flom thirty years ago when he became my teacher at the Hebrew Youth Academy of Essex County (now known as the Joseph Kushner Hebrew Academy; unfortunately, another one of my teachers from those years also passed away much too young, Rabbi Yaakov Appel). When he first started teaching he was known as Mr. Flom, because he hadn't yet received semikhah (Actually, he had some sort of semikhah but he told me that he didn't think it was adequate to be called "Rabbi" by the students.) He was only at the school a couple of years and then decided to move to Israel to open his yeshiva. I still remember his first parlor meeting which was held at my house. Rabbi Flom was a very special man. Just to give some idea of this, ten years after leaving the United States he was still in touch with many of the students and even attended our weddings. He would always call me when he came to the U.S. and was genuinely interested to hear about my family and what I was working on. He will be greatly missed. 1. The more one deals with bitachon from a philosophical perspective, the less his heart is really there. On the other hand, bitachon does not just happen. Without a rational framework one is clueless as to how to develop bitachon and just how to apply it to real life. Like the author observes, so many have a simplistic view of what bitachon is and very little actual bitachon when coping with the trials of daily living. Rabbi Goldberger’s Six Steps provide just such a framework. This sefer is not a discussion on the topic of bitachon. It is a practical program for turning us all into ba’alei bitachon. It reflects years of work on the part of the author in developing and disseminating the process of learning to trust HaShem. It also offers a sobering perspective on understanding one’s real needs -needs that we can count on HaShem to provide.

    B”H Torah Live: PU Accelerator, Pitch Night -- One pager Project Brief: The City of Gold Working closely with Day School principals, famed gamification expert Yu-Kai Chou​1,​ and kids themselves we are re-imagining student learning in the digital age. The City of Gold is a self-paced, educational platform for children to craft their own journey through Torah learning by completing an endless playlist of short films, infographics, quizzes, and real-world challenges. In the “game” the kids earn points that unlock features, drive higher status in the game -- and give them the ability to release real-world donations of products and services. When a child completes the Shabbos course for instance, ​challahs are given out in their name to those in need from bakeries in Jerusalem! Bio Rabbi Yaacov Deyo, the COO of Torah Live is a graduate of Harvard, and earned his semicha from Rav Yitzchak Berkovits of the Jerusalem Kollel. Previous to Torah Live, he built, tested, and raced high-performance ocean going trimarans, did research work in Nicaragua, spent a year on Fellowship doing conflict resolution in Northern Ireland, ran a homeless shelter in Boston, co-created SpeedDating with his students in LA, and co-founded a successful film studio. Timeline We are extremely excited to complete this project. Presently, we are 70% through design, and 50% through the build. Our plan is to start testing early-build milestones in February. Content creation for 1.0 is scheduled to be finished in March. Marketing will begin at that time, and advance throughout the summer for a start-of-the-school-year launch.
