So why do the popular educational videos produced by his company, Torah Live, often feature Rabbi Roth going to the ends of the earth, literally, to bring Torah concepts to life for today’s generation? The answer, he says, can be found in a commentary on Pirkei Avos that few people have read by Yonoson Rosenblum. Gerber This dissertation is a biographical study of Moses Hayim Luzzatto (1707–1746 or 1747). It presents the social and religious context in which Luzzatto was variously celebrated as the leader of a kabbalistic-messianic confraternity in Padua, condemned as a deviant threat by rabbis in Venice and central and eastern Europe, and accepted by the Portuguese Jewish community after relocating to Amsterdam.

Page 4 YOSS MEMORABLE MOMENTS Sharing the excitement .......................... Page 10 PAGE 2 MESSAGE FROM THE ROSH YESHIVA Sefer Shemos is the story of the emergence of Klal Yisrael from a small tribe of the progeny of Yaakov, to a thriving nation with millions of descendants, who accepted upon themselves the yoke of Torah. It is the story of a nation that went out to a desert and sowed the seeds of the future – a future that thrives to this very day. More than sixty years ago, my grandfather Rav Yaakov Kamenetzky, zt”l, charged my father and mother with the formidable task, “Go to the desert and plant the seeds of Torah.” What started as a fledgling school with six or seven boys, flourished more than a hundred fold. With institutions of tefilah, and higher Torah learning, all the outgrowth of that initial foray into the desert, my father’s impact is not only eternal but ever-expanding. This year’s dinner will mark both the commemoration of those accomplishments and a commitment to the renewal, refurbishment and expansion of the Torah facility he built brick by brick in 1964. Whether you are a student, an alumnus, a parent or community member, my father’s vision touched your life, and I hope that you will join us in honoring his.

  • Taming the Inner Critic
TAMING THE INNER CRITIC Transforming Attitudes by Judging Favorably s we go about our daily affairs observing and interacting with our family, friends, A acquaintances, and business associates, we are subconsciously (and sometimes consciously!) making judgments about others, either negatively or positively. Every interaction is entered into our mental computer. We can become inclined to judge people negatively. However, the Torah requires that we judge almost everyone positively (except someone with a known reputation for being “evil”). A positive attitude toward others can redefine the entire context of our lives and revolutionize all of our personal relationships. This class will address the following questions: Why should I judge others positively? Isn’t it better not to judge others at all? Must I be naïve and always give the benefit of the doubt? How can I judge someone negatively, maybe his upbringing and life circumstances forced him to act the way he did? How does judging positively affect one’s mindset in general? Class Outline Section I. The Mitzvah to Give Others the Benefit of the Doubt Part A. Loving Others and Judging Them Positively are Mutually Dependent Section II. The Reputation of the Individual Matters Part A. Overview Part B. Judge the Actions, Not the Person Part C. Why Judge at All? Section III. The Benefits of Judging Others Positively Part A. Peace and Harmony Part B. How We Judge Others Determines How God Relates to Us Part C. Seeing the Positive in Others is a Way to Emulate God 1 Bein Adam L’Chavero TAMING THE INNER CRITIC SECTION I.
