Three key non-standard items that we are hoping to provide at Seraya site are: (i) Life Skills Room (ii) Air-conditioning of the Multi-Purpose Hall; and (iii) AV system for the Indoor Sports Hall and Synthetic Field Please see Annex A for details on the non-standard items. To-date, we have raised about $80,000, net of expenses. On behalf of our students and staff, we wish to express our gratitude to you for your kind support and generosity. Our target is $160,000 and we hope that with your continued support, we would be able to achieve this target. There are two key fundraising activities that we are currently undertaking to help us raise the required funds: Golf Event (i) A golf event at the Orchid Country Club; Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong has kindly accepted our invitation to be the Guest of Honour at the Post-Game Dinner. Details of the event are as follows. Date : 18 March 2019 (Monday) Venue : Orchid Country Club 1 Orchid Club Road, Singapore 769162 Time : Pre-game Lunch at 11 am, Tee-Time Shotgun @ 1.30p.m., Post-game Dinner @ 7.00p.m. Book Sale (ii) Sale of Emeritus Senior Minister (ESM) Goh Chok Tong’s biography titled “Tall Order: The Goh Chok Tong Story”; the paperback version will be autographed by ESM Goh and sold for $100 each. The autographed hardcover will be sold at $200 each. We appeal to your generosity towards these two fundraising activities to support the school in its endeavour to provide a more conducive and dynamic learning environment for our students when we move back to Seraya site. Warm regards, __________________________ Mrs Caroline Wu Principal Annex A Life Skills Room Life skills are a core set of skills with skills-based activities designed to impart essential life skills that our students would need. Our life skills programme aims to inculcate values and equip students with social-emotional competencies as well. The life skills activities will enable students to get to practise hands-on and learn useful skills that can be put to use. For this purpose, our Life Skills Room would be fitted with the necessary equipment and fittings to provide an engaging learning environment. Air-conditioning of Multi-Purpose Hall (MPH) The MPH is used for many purposes such as school events and conducting of PE & CCA. Air-conditioning of the MPH would enable the school to continue with its activities without any disruption especially during the haze. During an occurrence of haze, the air-conditioned school hall would also serve as a shelter providing respite for our students as well as enable the school to conduct major exams in the air-conditioned hall. We intend to carry out the air- conditioning works in two phases. The first phase involves provision of Builder’s Work for air-conditioning of the MPH which would be carried out during the PERI upgrading. The second phase involves the installation of the air-conditioning units which would be carried out when there are available funds. AV System at the Indoor Sports Hall (ISH) and Synthetic Field At our Seraya site, when both the MPH and ISH are used for events and programmes, the AV system at the ISH would enable the students in the ISH to also view and enjoy the programme held at the MPH. The AV system at the Synthetic Field would be useful when the school conducts school events such as Sports Day as well as hosting National School Games and other community events. Ms Sim Ann, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Communications and Information & Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, is the one who introduced her colleagues to these locally-designed clothes. Mr Desmond Lee, Minister for Social and Family Development, wore a piece designed by Eileen Yap, 43, in collaboration with special needs teenagers. Eileen is the founder of “Singapore Fashion Runway”, a local social enterprise. The shirt’s design is based on Singapore’s national flower, the Vanda Miss Joaquim orchid. In a Facebook post of himself wearing the customised costume, Mr Desmond Lee urged the public to support those with special needs through meaningful ways such as this. In fact, Mr Desmond Lee wasn’t alone in wearing works made by those with special needs at NDP. According to Eileen, the floral designs were drawn by Amirul and Farhana, students from the Mountbatten Vocational School. Singapore Fashion Runway then used their designs to produce the clothes. The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) welcomed Major-General (MG) Ng Chee Meng as its new Chief of Defence Force (CDF) this evening, at a Change of Command Parade held at the SAFTI Military Institute. Witnessed by Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen, MG Ng, the former Chief of Air Force (CAF) received the SAF's symbol of command from the outgoing CDF, Lieutenant-General (LG) Neo Kian Hong. During the parade, LG Neo and MG Ng reviewed a Guard of Honour and the 13 marching contingents formed by servicemen from the Army, Navy and Air Force. MG Ng, who joined the SAF in 1986, has held several key appointments, including Head, Air Plans Department; Commander, Changi Air Base; and Director of Joint Operations. As CAF since 10 Dec 2009, MG Ng has led the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) with distinction, achieving a high level of operational readiness and seeing through the successful transformation of the 3rd Generation Air Force. Under his steadfast leadership, the RSAF has grown as a highly professional force with a strong safety record, centred on people development. MG Ng has forged close working relations between the RSAF and air forces around the world. He has also overseen the RSAF's engagement with the community, through outreach programmes and partnerships with schools.

    Annex B Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s Contribution to the Anthology of Essays on Anti-Corruption Success in combating corruption – views on the Singaporean experience Corruption is a scourge that can never be tolerated. Countries have tried all ways to combat it. They create anti-corruption agencies. They pass strong laws. They promulgate codes of conduct for public officials. Companies pledge to conduct business cleanly. Yet often corruption remains endemic, a cancer in the society. How then has Singapore achieved some measure of success in eradicating corruption? I put it down to four factors. First, we inherited a clean and working system from the British colonial government. We had many compelling reasons to want to end colonial rule and to be masters of our own destiny. But to their credit, the British left Singapore with a working system and sound institutions – English laws, a working Civil Service, and an efficient and honest judiciary. Importantly, the Colonial Service officers upheld high standards. People like Sir William Goode, our last Governor and first Head of State, had a sense of duty and stewardship. After Singapore, Goode served as Governor of North Borneo, now the state of Sabah in Malaysia. He left an impression in North Borneo, as in Singapore. Even a generation later, the people of Sabah still remembered him fondly. Second, when the British left, our pioneer leaders were determined to keep the system clean. The People’s Action Party (PAP) first came to power in 1959, when Singapore attained self-government. However, it was by no means a no-brainer for the PAP to fight to win the 1959 General Election.

She was educated at Raffles Institution in Singapore, and read law at the National University of Singapore. She was admitted to the Singapore Bar in 1987 and began practice with Freshfields as a legal associate. In 1988, she joined the Litigation Department of Drew & Napier. She was appointed Senior Counsel in 2003 and was the Deputy Head of Drew & Napier’s Dispute Resolution Department until October 2012, when she left to join the government. Her practice as a dispute resolution lawyer included cross-border commercial disputes and international arbitration. Ms Rajah has been the Member of Parliament for the Tanjong Pagar Group Representation Constituency (GRC) since 2001. She chaired the Government Parliamentary Committee (GPC) for Law & Home Affairs from 2004 to 2006 and the GPC for Defence and Foreign Affairs from 2006 to mid-2009. She was a Deputy Speaker of Parliament from 2006 to 2011. She was appointed Senior Minister of State for Law and Education on 1 Nov 2012. Under her law portfolio she co-chaired the Committees on Family Justice and on the formation of the Singapore International Commercial Court with then-Judge of Appeal VK Rajah, the recommendations of which have been accepted and are now in implementation. She is currently co-chairing the committee on Strengthening Singapore as a Restructuring Hub with Judicial Commissioner Mr Kannan Ramesh. She also chairs the Steering Committee on the strategic direction of Singapore’s third law school at UniSIM.

Vice President Harris is in Singapore on an official visit from 22 to 24 August 2021. Vice President Harris’ visit to the RSN underscores the excellent and long-standing defence relations between Singapore and the US. The defence establishments of Singapore and the US enjoy extensive defence interactions, including dialogues, military-to-military exchanges, training and cross-attendance of courses, and defence technology cooperation.

    1 Release No.: 06/SEP 02-2/93/09/04 ADDRESS BY SENIOR MINISTER, MR LEE KUAN YEW, AT THE GROUND-BREAKING CEREMONY FOR THE MERLION TOWER, SENTOSA ON SATURDAY, 4 SEPTEMBER 1993 AT 8.30 PM One night, twenty-one years ago, I inaugurated the Merlion at the mouth of the Singapore River by lighting up and getting it to spout out a stream of water. It was our first tourist logo. Singapore was then just picking up as a tourist destination. Total visitors to Singapore was just over 800,000. There were few attractions to tempt international travellers to Southeast Asia. At that time, this island was known as Pulau Blakang Mati or “island behind death”. It has just been handed back to the government after the British Military Forces decided to leave. Few people visited the island which had barracks for the Gurkhas. The name did not sound appropriate for a tourist spot. It was not catchy. So I proposed that we rename it Sentosa, Malay for peace and tranquility. lky\1993\lky0904.doc 2 Today, six million visitors a year from all over the world visit Singapore. This number has been increasing at 8.6 per cent over the last 10 years and will probably increase to 4.5 per cent in the next ten. About 70 per cent of them have come to sightsee. Last year, Sentosa attracted 3.6 million visitors, both local and foreign visitors. We are increasing night time attractions in Sentosa. The musical fountain, started in 1982, is attracting night crowds.
