Frisbee and disc golf have been an important part of my life for over 40 years – from my first Frisbee contest in Cocoa Beach, FL in 1975 (the CK101 Radio Frisbee Fly-in), first disc golf competition in 1978 (Florida Frisbee Championships – Novice Division Champion), World Disc Golf Championships in 1983/84/85, first PDGA-sanctioned TD role (1985 April Fools in Tallahassee, FL), publishing the first PDGA Course Directory in 1985, to the modern era – installing courses, running events and volunteering here in San Diego and So Cal – throwing (and sometimes catching) flying discs have always provided a great deal of joy to me and have helped me find a way to give back to the community and the group I like to refer to as the “Frisbee Family”. The Challenge is the biggest event I have ever undertaken and there’s no way it could have happened without the help, support and guidance of many people. This year we’re a “Test Event” for the Disc Golf Pro Tour and an A/B-tier. If all goes well we may make the jump to the next level (or higher). If (when) that happens, I’ll be asking for even more help and support from even more of you – so be ready! I have clearly drunk the Kool-Aid here at Goat Hill Park. It’s a gem of a course with the bite of a nasty billy goat at times. I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to work with a great group of folks here at the Goat – every time I drive through the gate I find something has been improved, built, polished, planted. It’s a very welcoming environment. My friends and teammates at Innova Disc Golf are a big reason why I can do so much of what I do in disc golf. The past nine years as an Ambassador have been an honor and a privilege for me. And I can’t leave out the love and support I get from my kids – Katie and AJ. Katie gives me so much support behind the scenes as my sounding board and go-fer. And AJ (my former mini-me) has grown into a seasoned, respected professional disc golfer – living the dream for many of us to live through vicariously. I couldn’t be prouder of how these two young adults have turned out. Thanks to all of you who have helped and supported over these past years – there’s more to come! - Allen Risley, Tournament Director, PDGA #1752 2 Schedule Thursday, May 2, 2019 - 2pm – 7pm – MPO/FPO player early check-in (or check in 30 minutes before tee time on Friday, May3) Friday, May 3, 2017 – 8am – 11am – 1st round tee times for MPO/FPO players – tee times on PDGA.com Friday, May 3, 2017 – 6pm – 9pm – Welcome Players Party @ Goat Hill Park Saturday, May 4, 2019 – 8am – 2:30pm – 2nd round tee times for MPO/FPO, 1st round for all other divisions – tee times listed on PDGA.com Sunday, May 5, 2019 – 8am – 2:30pm – 3rd round tee times for MPO/FPO, 2nd round for all other divisions – tee times listed on PDGA.com Sunday, May 5, 2019 – 6pm (approx.) – Awards and Cinco de Mayo Party Sponsors No sporting event occurs without the contributions of others. The Challenge at Goat Hill Park – Presented by Innova Disc Golf 2021 Caddie Book MPO & FPO Divisions May 7-9, 2021 Oceanside, CA Welcome, everyone, to The Challenge at Goat Hill Park – Driven by Innova. The 2021 edition of The Challenge has been just that – a challenge – to organize and prepare. I’m so happy that we are able to present a disc golf competition for you, whether you are playing, volunteering, sponsoring, spectating or viewing. The Challenge continues to grow, in size, scope and stature from year to year. And that growth could not happen without your support and participation. Thank You! Disc golf has seen dramatic growth in the past year and that growth brings with it great excitement, but also great responsibility. Holding a large disc golf tournament in a COVID- aware world means that this event is being run a bit different than pre-COVID. We have instituted some social distancing rules for players and volunteers to follow – we appreciate your help with that. I want to express my heartfelt appreciation to my colleagues at Innova Disc Golf for their support – The Challenge would not happen without them. Also, many, many thanks to Eli Ivey, John Ashworth and the staff at Goat Hill Park for their continued support of disc golf at the Goat! And I send much love to my son and daughter, AJ and Katie, for all the help they provide and for hearing out all of the crazy ideas I toss at them, without judging them too harshly. It means the world to me.

Specially- abled and disabled participate, giving them the opportunity to take part in a mainstream activity. Because disc golf is so easy to learn, no one is excluded. Players merely match their pace to their capabilities, and proceed from there.”1 Until now, there has been no school-based curriculum or other effective training program to teach the basic skills of disc golf. By combining the fundamentals of the sport with educational objectives in the areas of health and fitness, math, science, civics, and the environment, the Educational Disc Golf Experience (EDGE) provides a way to introduce more young players to the sport, and indirectly, bring the adults in their lives to the game, as well.

  • 1 a Method for Mathematically Comparing the Performances Of
A Method for Mathematically Comparing the Performances of Disc Golf Courses By Steve West Disc Golf, LLC February 10, 2020 It is known that some disc golf courses are better tests of skill than others. This paper presents a method to compare how well disc golf courses perform against each according to their ability to sort players by skill. Method The job of a disc golf course is to rank players by how well they play that day. (Fun and entertainment are hobbies.) This means handing out different scores to different players in a way that is not random. The amount of information in a set of scores given out to a specific group of players can be represented by the Scoring Spread Width of Total Scores. Scoring Spread Width = 2 raised to the absolute value of the sum of the frequency of each score times the log2 of the frequency. However, there is not an absolute scale for what is a “good” spread, because the spread is heavily dependent on the number of players being observed and the range of their skill levels. A course that was played by everyone at Am Worlds will obviously have a much wider Scoring Spread of Total Scores than a course which was played only by the finalists of the Open division at a small tournament. Therefore, the group of players to be observed needs to be standardized before course performances can be compared to each other. One way to standardize the set of plaeyrs would be to find a core group of players that play a lot of tournaments, then evaluate all courses based on the Scoring Spread Width of Total Scores they assigned to the core group.

  • An Economic Study of the Richmond Hill Disc Golf Course
Proceedings of the National Conference On Undergraduate Research (NCUR) 2014 University of Lexington, Kentucky April 3-5, 2014 An Economic Study of the Richmond Hill Disc Golf Course Haley K. Mahoney Department of Economics The University of North Carolina at Asheville One University Heights Asheville, North Carolina 28804 USA Faculty Advisor: Dr. Leah Mathews Abstract The sport of disc golf has grown, and is still growing, at an astounding rate. Despite all of disc golf’s positive qualities, it can be harmful to the natural ecology of the area in which it is played. Disc golf has been documented to cause such environmental degradation as greatly increased erosion, soil compaction, significant trampling of undergrowth and loss of vegetative cover, as well as persistent damage to trees, such as the stripping of bark, leaves, and branches and indentations and nicks made by the discs, which can result in tree death. Because of the sport’s increasing popularity and negative ecological impacts, it is important to know whether the benefits of disc golf courses are worth the cost. Moreover, because there are mitigation techniques available to offset the negative impacts of disc golf such as behavioral modification, tree-wrapping, and mulching, it would also be beneficial to know whether players would be willing to pay, and how much, to help fund mitigation costs. Using the non-market valuation survey techniques of contingent valuation and contingent behavior analysis, this study examines players’ recreational demand for disc golf at Richmond Hill Disc Golf Course in Asheville, NC, and their willingness to pay (WTP) to maintain the park.

The invitations for ultimate were based on each county's top three divisional finishes. The six teams who earned invitations were: USA- 41 points Canada- 41 points Finland- 39 points Sweden- 33 points Germany- 32 points Japan- 30 points, receiving an automatic invitation as the national host Great Britain was barely edged out of an invitation with 30 points.
