The Challenge at Goat Hill Park – Presented by Innova 2021 Caddie Book MPO & FPO Divisions

May 7-9, 2021 Oceanside, CA

Welcome, everyone, to The Challenge at Goat Hill Park – Driven by Innova. The 2021 edition of The Challenge has been just that – a challenge – to organize and prepare. I’m so happy that we are able to present a disc golf competition for you, whether you are playing, volunteering, sponsoring, spectating or viewing. The Challenge continues to grow, in size, scope and stature from year to year. And that growth could not happen without your support and participation. Thank You!

Disc golf has seen dramatic growth in the past year and that growth brings with it great excitement, but also great responsibility. Holding a large disc golf tournament in a COVID- aware world means that this event is being run a bit different than pre-COVID. We have instituted some social distancing rules for players and volunteers to follow – we appreciate your help with that.

I want to express my heartfelt appreciation to my colleagues at Innova Disc Golf for their support – The Challenge would not happen without them. Also, many, many thanks to Eli Ivey, John Ashworth and the staff at Goat Hill Park for their continued support of disc golf at the Goat! And I send much love to my son and daughter, AJ and Katie, for all the help they provide and for hearing out all of the crazy ideas I toss at them, without judging them too harshly. It means the world to me.

Let’s have a great event!

Tournament Director Standard Course Rules

The following rules are standard across the course unless there is a specific note on the hole description in this caddie book:

1. PDGA rules are in effect. 2-meter rule is in effect. Welcome to California.

2. Please follow social distancing guidelines. Wear masks in common areas.

3. Out of bounds: All golf greens, over fences. Sand bunkers are hazards – 1 stroke penalty and take next shot from where your disc lies inside bunker. If sand surrounds your disc, you are in the hazard.

4. Pink string with pink flags are used to define OB lines throughout the course. The OB line is the string, not the paths, logs or grass edges if string is present. OB concrete cart paths may be without string but have pink flags. In those instances, the edge of the concrete path is line. Grass crossing edge of concrete IS NOT in bounds.

5. All mandatories have marked drop zones next to mandatory except: Holes 1 & 18: 1st mando drop zone is front tee, Hole 3 drop zone from MPO tee is front turf tee, Hole 6 drop zone from MPO tee is front turf tee, Hole 7 drop zone for mandatory is “Kid Goat” pad, Hole 12 drop zone is on lower grass fairway.

6. When in doubt: Provisional, provisional, provisional!
