  • Trauma, Gender, and Traditional Performance In
UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA Los Angeles The Art of Resistance: Trauma, Gender, and Traditional Performance in Acehnese Communities, 1976-2011 A dissertation submitted in partial satisfaction of the requirements for the degree Doctor of Philosophy in Women’s Studies by Kimberly Svea Clair 2012 ABSTRACT OF THE DISSERTATION The Art of Resistance: Trauma, Gender, and Traditional Performance in Acehnese Communities, 1976-2011 by Kimberly Svea Clair Doctor of Philosophy in Women’s Studies University of California, Los Angeles, 2012 Professor Susan McClary, Chair After nearly thirty years of separatist conflict, Aceh, Indonesia was hit by the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, a disaster that killed 230,000 and left 500,000 people homeless. Though numerous analyses have focused upon the immediate economic and political impact of the conflict and the tsunami upon Acehnese society, few studies have investigated the continuation of traumatic experience into the “aftermath” of these events and the efforts that Acehnese communities have made towards trauma recovery. My dissertation examines the significance of Acehnese performance traditions—including dance, music, and theater practices—for Acehnese trauma survivors. Focusing on the conflict, the tsunami, political and religious oppression, discrimination, and hardships experienced within the diaspora, my dissertation explores the ii benefits and limitations of Acehnese performance as a tool for resisting both large-scale and less visible forms of trauma. Humanitarian workers and local artists who used Acehnese performance to facilitate trauma recovery following the conflict and the tsunami in Aceh found that the traditional arts offered individuals a safe space in which to openly discuss their grievances, to strengthen feelings of cultural belonging, and to build solidarity with community members.

This study aims to determine the best feeding rate (FR) in increasing feed efficiency and growth of Chopped grouper and to determine the efficiency and growth of Chopped grouper (Epinephelus fuscoguttatus x Epinephelus lanceolatus). This research was conducted in February-March 2020 for 42 days at the Household Scale Hatchery of the Marin Agri Sejahtera Cooperative, Tanjungpinang City, Riau Islands. The method used was experimental with a completely randomized design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 3 replications where K treatment (15% trash feed), A treatment (10% trash feed), B treatment (20% trash feed), treatment C (feeding 25% trash feed). The results of the study, through statistical analysis, showed that the papain enzyme dose was able to have a very significant effect. Keywords: Chopped grouper, trash fish, Feed Efficiency, Growth, Feeding Rate Introduction Grouper fish in Indonesia is currently popular and is being developed as a marine aquaculture commodity that has opportunities for both domestic and international markets to be exported abroad, such as Hong Kong, Taiwan, and China with high selling prices (Triana 2010).

  • The Genealogy of Muslim Radicalism in Indonesia A
The Genealogy of Muslim Radicalism in Indonesia THE GENEALOGY OF MUSLIM RADICALISM IN INDONESIA A Study of the Roots and Characteristics of the Padri Movement Abd A’la IAIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya, Indonesia Abstract: This paper will trace the roots of religious radicalism in Indonesia with the Padri movement as the case in point. It argues that the history of the Padri movement is complex and multifaceted. Nevertheless, it seems to be clear that the Padri movement was in many ways a reincarnation of its counterpart in the Arabian Peninsula, the Wahhabi> > movement, even though it was not a perfect replica of the latter. While the two shared some similarities, they were also quite different in other respects. The historical passage of the Padris was therefore not the same as that of the Wahhabi> s.> Each movement had its own dimensions and peculiarities according to its particular context and setting. Despite these differences, both were united by the same objective; they were radical in their determination to establish what they considered the purest version of Islam, and both manipulated religious symbols in pursuit of their political agendas. Keywords: Padri movement, fundamentalism, radicalism, Minangkabau, Wahhabism.> Introduction Almost all historians agree that Islam in the Malay Archipelago – a large part of which subsequently became known as Indonesia – was disseminated in a peaceful process. The people of the archipelago accepted the religion of Islam wholeheartedly without any pressure or compulsion. To a certain extent, these people even treated Islam as belonging to their own culture, seeing striking similarities between the new religion and existing local traditions.
