Moxie Girlz Magic Swim Mermaid Doll - Avery Moxie Girlz Magic Swim Mermaid Doll - Avery Product Details Sales Rank: #80234 in Toys & Games Brand: Moxie Girlz Model: 511335 Dimensions: 15.00 h x 2.50 w x 2.25 l,.88 pounds Features Doll swims on her own automatically when placed in water - No on/off switch needed Beautiful sparkling top and tail Posable body Product Description Moxie Girlz Magic Swim Mermaid Doll- AveryThe Moxie Girlz are imagining themselves as sparkling, magical mermaids!Product Features:Doll swims on her own automatically when placed in water - No on/off switch needed!Beautiful sparkling top and tailPosable bodyBattery Requirements: 2 by AA (not included) My five year old is a mermaid NUT and has easily a dozen mermaid dolls to play with in the bath. Her collection includes three swimming mermaid dolls--one wind- up, one that corkscrews, and one that kicks when you squeeze its hips.If there's one thing I've learned about electronic toys that are supposed to do something in the water, it's that they're not actually designed with water in mind. The corkscrewing doll swims great, but looks nothing like a mermaid.(More like a bullet with a face). The windup gives maybe two solid kicks then dies, and its tail isn't powerful enough to move against the resistance of water--it only flaps effectively when it's OUT of the water, which is just dumb.ALL of the mermaid dolls in my daughter's collection had hard plastic tails, and none of them have a particularly realistic motion. The Moxie girlz magic swim mermaid, as compared to those, is AMAZING.The tail is rubber, including the fin, and that gives it a fantastically realistic look when it moves in the water. The movement is perfect for bathtub play--it propels the mermaid around the tub well enough, but I don't have to worry about her getting tangled inmy daughter's hair or pinching her hands when she tries to catch it. As other reviewers have said, she doesn't swim particularly fast. For our purposes, it isn't important for her to swim fast, so that's fine. The fact that she swims at all already puts her head and shoulders over the rest of our swimming mermaids, and more importantly, she looks great doing it.Love that realistic tail motion!! Other reviewers have mentioned that it's hard to get the doll to stop, so I'll share what I learned about that: the doll has a joint right at the waist. When she's upright, the two contact points are hidden (though they'll still activate just fine when they get wet), and when you bend her in a sitting position, they're visible. If you keep her upright when you take her out of the water, it takes a long time for the wet tail to stop activating those contact points, but if you bend her, the points are exposed to air and the doll will stop swimming almost instantly. For fun outside of the tub, your little one can bend the doll at the waist and place one finger (or the palm of her hand) across the two contact points to make the mermaid's tail move.Careful when bending and unbending that waist, though--it can pinch little fingers.Like anything with moving parts, I'd imagine this doll won't hold up to rough play, though thankfully, I haven't had to test that theory. My daughter is very gentle with her mermaids. The motor IS a touch loud, but bearable.I'd imagine the batteries would die pretty quickly if you left this thing sitting wet after play, or if your daughter (like mine) favors crazy long baths...but as long as you take it out of the water immediately and bend that waist whenever the doll's not in use, the batteries should hold out a good while. All in all, I'd say this toy is the best of a bad lot.As far as I know, there's no such thing as a quiet, fast, pretty, realistic and well-made swimming mermaid doll. But the Moxie girlz magic swim mermaid comes closer than anything I've seen.I'm happy with my purchase, and my daughter's already asking for a second one so her mermaids can swim together. My 9 year old LOVES mermaids and has since she was old enough to watch The Little Mermaid. She's also a fan of Moxie girlz since Bratz aren't allowed in our house. So when she saw the Moxie Girlz Magic Swim Mermaid Doll - Avery doll, she flipped and asked for it for her birthday. However, I was fortunate enough to be offered the chance to try it out and review so she got to have it early. First impressions: After we got her out of the packaging, which was a nightmare, we were able to give her a try. She's a very pretty doll.My daughter received Avery, the blonde mermaid who has a sparkly pink peplum shirt (removable) and a rubbery sparkle tail. She is the size of a typical Barbie doll. The tail/fins are not removable, she is a real mermaid and has no legs. It isn't clear on the packaging that she needs batteries but by going to the website, we learned she needs 2 AAA batteries. They are inserted in the back after removing a panel that is fastened with two small screws. You'll need a phillips head screwdriver and strong hands to remove the panel. Once we got the batteries installed, we were ready to try it out in the bathtub. She filled up the tub with clear water and set Avery off swimming. Fail.Avery barely moves her tail and makes a grinding noise while doing it.It sort of sounds like an electric toothbrush or cordless drill that is running out of battery. The dolls face stays submerged and as she slowly propelled herself around the tub, my daughter said I think she's almost dead. The doll can be used in a pool too so my daughter still takes her with us to the rec center pool and just plays with her like a regular doll.I'm not sure what the other reviewer meant by the doll can only be used in clean water, our pool water IS clean and it's fine to use it.Regular tap water that comes out of your faucets for bathing, drinking and cooking has chlorine in it so they're not that different.I wouldn't play with this toy in a pond, river or at the beach though, it would definitely ruin it. I asked my daughter if she would have been happy had she saved her money and bought this, or if it had been given as a gift and she said not so much because there are lots of non-moving mermaid dolls out there for a lot less and that's what this mermaid ends up being after about 10 minutes anyway. My daughter enjoys bath time with this doll. She is pretty yet modest (rare for a mermaid), and her tail moves when she is wet. If she keeps moving after we pull her out of the water, we dry the two contact points and she stops. We have owned her for 2 months and had no complications. See all 53 customer reviews... • MGA Entertainment Pledges to Support Young Cancer Patients’ Charity CLIC Sargent
MGA Entertainment pledges to support young cancer patients’ charity CLIC Sargent Earlier this year MGA Entertainment announced its commitment and support to the fight against cancer by launching new versions of their hit doll brands, Bratz® and Moxie Girlz™ without hair. Now MGA Entertainment UK has joined forces with CLIC Sargent, the UK‟s leading cancer charity for children and young people and their families. Under the banner “True Hope” MGA will release two Bratz® dolls - Cloe™ and Yasmin™ and three Moxie Girlz™ dolls, Avery™ and Sophina™. Available exclusively at Toys“R”Us® stores in July, MGA will donate £1 for every “True Hope” Bratz® and Moxie Girlz™ doll sold to CLIC Sargent to support the fantastic work they do for families in the UK. The announcement comes after MGA Entertainment in the USA revealed that it has partnered with the City of Hope charity for its donations ahead of the doll launch state-side in June. The dolls were devised after an ever-growing social media movement called for toymakers to create dolls without hair to comfort young girls and boys who suffer from hair loss due to cancer treatments. The money from the “True Hope” doll sales will support CLIC Sargent‟s mission to raise awareness of cancer and help those affected. From diagnosis onwards, CLIC Sargent is there to help the whole family deal with the impact of cancer and its treatment, life after treatment, and in some cases bereavement. Being diagnosed with cancer is a frightening experience and the emotional, practical and financial implications of treatment are intensely challenging for the whole family.
