Lesson Procedure
1. Introduction of Self/Students “Hello, my name is ______and I am ______member from ______Pony Club or Riding Center. Let’s go around the group and you can tell me you name, certification, and what kind of riding you like to do.” Allow the students to do this and give each one a name tag.
2. Verbalize Objective of Lesson “Today we are going to learn about the different kinds of riding you can do. These are what we call horse sports. Pony Club has many different horse sports that you are able to participate in.”
3. Ask Prior Knowledge of Topic “How many of you have seen different types of riding? What is it that you have seen on TV, or in person?
4. Demonstration/Discussion “I am going to make a list of the sports as we go along with our lesson. So far you have mentioned ______, ______and ______(List the ones they have already told you in prior knowledge.)
I am going to show you some pictures and you see if you can name the sport. (Hold up the pictures and elicit the correct name and if not – tell them and then add to the list. Discuss the sport briefly.)

5. Application of the activity: “I am going to hold up the sport pictures and let’s see if you can name the sport.”
6. Additional Ideas if time allows: You could make a double set of cards, all the same size, and play concentration. You could see how many they can name in 30 seconds, and give each a try.
7. Conclusion: “In Pony Club there are many types of riding you can do and have fun with your horse. Let’s go around the group and each name on sport until we have names them all. Well done. Thank you for coming and I hope you have learned some new sports.”
