Roy A. Cimatu. File photo courtesy of Mrs. Fe’s colleagues in the AFP Generals’ Wives organization MANILA, Philippines — As the old saying “behind every successful man is a supportive woman” proves to be true, what more if she’s a strong-willed wife out to support her husband 100 percent? Mrs. Fe Aguillon-Cimatu, a supportive woman, was not always a shadow to her husband Environment Secretary Roy A. Cimatu, a former general and chief-of-staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. Fe would always be a woman who proved she can make a difference; she can make change. Fe, affectionately known as Ma’am Fe, was not just an ordinary housewife. She was the good woman of the house she built all through the years with her better half. Fe, a native of San Jose, Antique, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2021, leaving a big hole in the heart of the former general. Born on April 22, 1948, Fe was a very responsible and caring individual especially to her own family. She brought this wonderful trait to her marriage with Cimatu. Hands-on as she was known, Fe even took charge of their wedding. She was her own wedding planner. The then-general groom-to-be was still in Marawi for a military operation four days before their wedding date.

Despite encouraging Jdevelopments at the beginning of his presidency last July 2016, such as the release of 19 peace consultants of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) and the resumption of the peace talks between the Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GRP) and the NDFP, his strong criticism of continuing US intervention in the country, and his promises to end contractualization and the demolition of urban poor people’s houses, there remains little cause for celebration. Rightly so, the people have started to question this administration’s alarming propensity for the militarists’ treacherous ploys. 2 KARAPATAN Monitor 3 3 April-June 2017 3 Hapilon, a commander of the Abu military trucks. Ayon kay Cimatu, ito ay dahil sa nagiging paulit-ulit lamang ang paglabag ng mga sindikato. “RA 9147 should be amended to include a mandatory minimum jail term of six years for those found guilty of the criminal acts defined under the law,” ani Cimatu. “This is to make sure that convicted offenders will be able to serve their sentence and will not be eligible for probation,” pahayag ni Roy. Sinabi ito ni Cimatu matapos ang isang task force sa ilalim ng Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) ay nakaaresto ng dalawang suspek sa ilegal na pagbebenta ng wildlife Tondo, Manila. 29 JANUARY 2021, FRIDAY ✓ Headline STRATEGIC January 29, 2021 COMMUNICATION & Editorial Date INITIATIVES Column SERVICE 1 of 2 Opinion Page Feature Article Massive Cagayan River dredging, tree planting starts on February 2 – DENR chief ByJonathan L. Mayuga January 28, 2021 In file photo provided by the Malacanang Presidential Photographers Division, floodwaters bought by Typhoon Vamco inundate Cagayan valley region in northern Philippines in Nov. 2020. Typhoon Vamco swelled rivers and flooded low-lying areas as it passed over the storm-battered northeast Philippines, where rescuers were deployed to help people flee the rising waters. (Ace Morandante/ Malacanang Presidential Photographers Division via AP) Secretary Roy A. Cimatu of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) on Thursday announced that the massive rehabilitation of Cagayan River – the country’s largest river – will begin on February 2, coincides with World Wetlands Day, beginning with the removal of sandbars to clear the constricted section of the river and massive planting of bamboos along its banks. Cimatu, also concurrent chairman of the Task Force Build Back Better, said in a news statement that the rehabilitation of the Cagayan River is the culmination of weeks of meticulous planning and detailed coordination to ensure that each of the dredging equipment is safely transported to the sandbar sites, and that bamboos are grown at critical portions of the riverbank needing immediate measures to address stream bank erosion and instability. On top of the six amphibious dredgers of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), a total of 40 dredging equipment are expected to be deployed by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), which consists of dump trucks, bulldozers, tractors, and scoop loaders.

Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu, chief coronavirus disease (COVID-19) response implementor in the Viayas (NTF AGAINST COVID-19 / MANILA BULLETIN) Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Roy Cimatu mentioned this during his keynote speech at the event in Lal-lo, Cagayan. “Today we are on a mission to reduce the perennial flooding of the region of Cagayan Valley. During our Cabinet meeting in December, the President himself approved the widening of the Magapit Narrows (part of the river) and the removal of 19 sandbars in Cagayan River,” Cimatu said. “Aabutin ito ng taon (It might take years), several years probably that we will be able to dregde the river. Pero (But) within 100 days, that’s about three and a half months, we would be able to partially remove the sandbars,” he said. “Anong ibig sabihin nito? Kung lalabas nanaman ang mga malalakas na ulan by July, para makita na natin ang resulta nito. Makita rin natin mabawasan na rin itong flooding dahil nakabawas na tayo sa sandbars at nakabawas na tayo sa lupa (What does this mean? Television time, an instrument hitherto used as a fundamental tool for consolidating votes has proved not to be individually enough to leverage a candidacy. • Impeachment, Political Crisis and Democracy in Brazil; Impeachment
REVISTA DE CIENCIA POLÍTICA / VOLUMEN 37 / N° 2 / 2017 / 281-304 IMPEACHMENT, POLITICAL CRISIS AND DEMOCRACY IN BRAZIL Impeachment, crisis política y democracia en Brasil FELIPE NUNES Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, Brasil CARLOS RANULFO MELO Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, Brasil ABSTRACT The year 2016 was marked by the deepening of the crisis that interrupted two de- cades of unusual political stability in Brazil. Although it has been the most signifi- cant event, Dilma Rousseff’s impeachment did little to “stop the bleeding,” as was shown by the subsequent arrest of the former president of the Chamber of Depu- ties, Eduardo Cunha (PMDB), and the unfolding of Operation Car Wash (Lava Jato). Besides the economic problems, the Brazilian political system also faced a serious crisis of legitimacy: the main parties were put in check, and a period of uncertainty regarding electoral and partisan competition opened up. In this article, we will re- view the sequence of the events, exploring some of the factors that explain it, and, aware of the fact that we are in the middle of process with an undefined outcome, we would like to take advantage of the opportunity to resume the debate on the performance of Brazilian democracy as well its perspectives.
