I consider myself very fortunate to have the opportunity to serve as the President of Berks Encore - a privilege that I do not take lightly nor for granted. In addition, I am privileged to work with an amazing staff team. Each member of our staff is dedicated to our continued motto of “service with excellence” and “gracious hospitality”. The fellows undergo training, audio/video production and collaboration with international/other genres of music. They also engage in an artistically rigorous process to create a visual experience for their music, and to make Indian classical music relevant to a global audience. Music touches each and every one of us in so many ways. Whether one is a student, performer, audience member or an advocate, the impact on each person’s life is as unique as it is powerful. At RMF, we understand the power of music. That is why each day RMF supports a diverse range of programs that strive for one common goal: to empower others through the love of music. Little did we know that five years after updating our mission, music programs-particularly ensembles-would come under fire due to tightening school budgets and music ensembles being non-mandated coursework in Pennsylvania. Number of Total Number Berks County's music programs were fortunate to withstand this storm with little K-12 Students: of Middle School damage. While there were soft hits along the way, no school district shut down 16,947 and HighSchool its music program completely. Music advocates knew the situation was dire, but we had no way to truly quantify hits to programs and the effect on students.     2018-2019 ANNUAL REPORT 2018-2019 ANNUAL REPORT 2018-2019 ANNUAL REPORT “WE BELIEVE THE ARTS IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE AND ARE A MEANINGFUL PART OF INNER CITY REVITALIZATION AND ECONOMIC GROWTH.” 2018-2019 ANNUAL REPORT WELCOME TO BERKS ARTS COUNCIL At Berks Arts Council, we believe the arts improve the quality of life and are a meaningful part of inner city revitalization and economic growth. According to the Arts & Economic Prosperity 5 study, the nonprofit arts and culture sector is an $18.9 million industry in Berks County supporting 625 full time equivalent jobs which generates $1.9 million in state and local tax revenue. Programming provided by Berks Arts Council generates over $8 million in revenue for our local hotels, restaurants and stores. Berks Arts Council spends 92% of its funding on educational programs, outreach, arts presentation and collaborative works. With a staff of three, we are thankful for the 286 volunteers that dedicate over 11,000 hours annually to Berks Arts Council. With your gifts of time, talent and treasure Berks Arts Council has served over 100,000 individuals this past year. Today we invite you to take a few moments to read our first Annual Report. The report discusses our mission to inspire, engage and unite our community through arts education, collaboration and presentation. The report reflects activity from July 1, 2018- June 30, 2019. In next year’s report, we look forward to sharing with you our new community collaborations such as the Celebration of Women in the Arts, grants awarded in the tri-county area and expansion of our public art initiatives.
